ART Posted 29 October, 2013 Posted 29 October, 2013 Southampton are ready to make their Champions League push a family affair by snapping up Victor Wanyama's brother - Inter Milan midfielder McDonald Mariga. Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is plotting a January swoop for the 26-year-old, who plays alongside his younger sibling for Kenya's national team. Mariga came close to joining Manchester City in January 2010, but could not get a work permit. Wanyama has played a key role in the Saints' superb start to the season since a £12.5million summer move from Scottish champions Celtic. Wrensup Posted 29 October, 2013 Posted 29 October, 2013 That would just be like having two Wanyamas in the squad, however one being very good, young, and improving. The other being Mariga whose 5 years older and haven't done much at all since leaving Parma.
Turkish Posted 29 October, 2013 Posted 29 October, 2013 Also a defensive midfielder, can't really see there being much in this.
hypochondriac Posted 29 October, 2013 Posted 29 October, 2013 Also a defensive midfielder, can't really see there being much in this. Pretty much our strongest position.
skintsaint Posted 30 October, 2013 Posted 30 October, 2013 He looked a great player a few years back but think he done his ACL and not really heard too much of him since.
Joensuu Posted 30 October, 2013 Posted 30 October, 2013 This story smells suspiciously of journalist BS.

anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 30 October, 2013 Posted 30 October, 2013 Pretty sporty family according to wikipedia: "Wanyama comes from a very sporting family. His brother McDonald Mariga plays for Parma on loan from Inter Milan, also as a midfielder,[27][28] while his other brothers Thomas and Sylvester Wanyama play for Sofapaka and Sony Sugar respectively. His father, Noah Wanyama, was a footballer for A.F.C. Leopards in the 1980s,[29] and his sister Mercy is a professional basketball player in the USA.[30]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Wanyama
