alpine_saint Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Has Osvaldo been giving you an apple? As I said on the other thread, Gash has had 16months and over 4million quid more. Saint Charlie Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Too early to rate players who have played less than 10 games in a Saints shirt, both positively and negatively. All other players have been rated loads of times in these type of threads. Barry - you are getting pretty boring mate, come up with some new material. SimplyRed&White Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 The problem with signing overseas players like Ramirez and Osvaldo is that they will take a lot of matches to adapt to the English style which is quicker and more physical than they have been used to. Add to that they are expected to track back and defend under our system which is equally alien. Ramirez is working well in training by all accounts. Osvaldo is being carried by the rest of the team when it comes to defending and he needs to adapt his game. He will learn a lot from Lambert in that respect. Do not write these guys off yet. Lovren is a quality player who has adapted well. Wanyama is of equal quality. It is no coincidence that our defence has improved with these two players. The remainder were purchased in the Adkins era so I am not going to comment on those.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Blimey, another negative Ramirez/Osvaldo thread, and look at the main perpetrators, there is a surprise! As people have said on these threads before, Ramirez hasn't been that bad. I really hope that if MoPo doesn't want to use him then we will offload. The problem is he doesn't fit in with his style of play. How people are judging Osvaldo this early is mental. Give the lad a chance.

angelman Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Lovren - Superb. AGREE Osvaldo - Poor as it stands in fact crap. NOT SO sure as it does take time to adjust and this is probably the hardest position to adjust your game. Convinced he will be OK. Wanyama - Fair to middling. THAT's a little harsh. He is a lump that the opposition finds hard to get past. Certainly in recent games he is becoming more mobile and his game is improving. Ramirez - Utter **** and the worst money signing we have ever done, an absolute load of **** WELL, he certainly is a disappointent so far given the talent that he has. I always found him too light weight. Bit like Bercovic. Rodriguez - Getting there. HE SEEMS to be but still lacks the ability to really punish teams. Hopefully that will come. Never focused on him pre-Saints. Mayuka - Another **** signing. NOT great and not setting the world on fire in France. Yoshida - Average if he is going to be a squad player, poor if intended to be first team. I THOUGHT that he did quite well last season once he bedded in. Sure he makes the odd mistake but I think he's better than just average. Davis - Very good for the price and his performances. INTERESTING that MP plays him a lot more than NA did. Does his job without setting the world on fire. Doesn't make too many mistakes. Clyne - Learning his trade but very good indeed. AGREE and surely will get better. Gazzaniga - Does not inspire. HE WAS young and inexperienced when NA threw him in and started chopping and changing. He actually had the best record of the three last season (I think!) Forren - This is up there with Ali Dia or Ramirez. NOW I see this differently to others. To me he was an insurance policy, one that wasn't needed. However much it has ended up costing us, it is less than relegation.

Scoobysaint Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 The OP is quite a dull sort. If he was a Spurs fan no doubt he would have been writing Bale off after a short while seeing as they never won when he played. Ronaldo took a few seasons to be the real deal at United. Drogba took a season at Chelsea. But oh no, as we are Southampton our signings don't have to adjust or adapt. I'm just glad we can attract Italy's number 9 and Uruguays playmaker to St Marys. Looking for a fight. Yawn. The modern phenomenon Americanism - another whinge. Desperately trying to appear controversial. Pretty much everyone thinks this way. Moot point. That goal celebration yesterday - hooray! A positive thread! 7/10. I had to knock points off for a lack of full stops in your opening post. Poor. Roy Hodgson - Only one reply. Not really sure what point you were trying to make. A low point. Danny Fox in team selection joy! - another moot point. We all know Fox isn't up to it. No need for a thread about it. Locked by mods. Control yourself! Is football now sterile one sided and boring? - a decent topic, if a little negative again. Don't jump, Barry! Vague predictions can bite you on the arse. - more negativity, this time met with some vitriol from other posters. Stop trying to be controversial! Locked again. GTA V to pre order or not? - think for yourself, Barry! ps4 - a decent topic this time. Try to think of more specific thread titles. Danny Fox is a witch - Confirmed - Don't know what this was. A desperate plea for attention. I expect you couldn't have a go at Ramirez for not winning a game on his own so you cooked up this half baked idea. Locked again. saint1977 Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Lovren - Superb Osvaldo - Poor as it stands in fact crap Wanyama - Fair to middling Ramirez - Utter **** and the worst money signing we have ever done, an absolute load of **** Rodriguez - Getting there Mayuka - Another **** signing Yoshida - Average if he is going to be a squad player, poor if intended to be first team Davis - Very good for the price and his performances Clyne - Learning his trade but very good indeed Gazzaniga - Does not inspire Forren - This is up there with Ali Dia or Ramirez. Lovren - Best Saints Centre Half since Mark Wright and Michael Svensson. Never thought I'd being saying that. Osvaldo - Will come good, has looked more effective at home, good strike v Palace and can't fault the workrate Wanyama - Is going to be immense. Saturday's display was his best yet. If he was the complete article, Barca, Man U or Juve would have been signing him FFS Ramirez - Slightly disappointing but I'm not sure he suits MP's system. Does apprear to be addressing his fitness and stamina levels however. To be fair, quality home displays last season v Arsenal, Villa and Everton. Rodriguez - Now we are seeing the real J Rod. Sensational on Saturday and offers us pace and direct running. Will get better and better and great link up with Adam and Rickie Mayuka - Players get loaned out - look at Andros Townsend - but needs a good season at Toulouse. Where's Window Cleaner when you need him to find out what's happening in Ligue 1? Yoshida - Good back up, decent engine but positional sense needs work. Regular for Japan and for £2m good value. Davis - Poor Rangers. Quality player and very consistent displays. Good communicator as well. Clyne - Best signing on this list, how Palace must wish they still had him. Could be on the plane to the World Cup. Gazzaniga - Give him time, Everton and a host of other PL clubs watched him extensively and he's highly rated within the scouting community. Was chucked in far too early last year which seemingly helped Nigel to his exit. Forren - No idea.

david in sweden Posted 29 October, 2013 Share Posted 29 October, 2013 Pretty much this. Yoshida has been particularly unlucky this season. He made a big difference when he came in last year, and has only been kept out by the excellent form of Lovren & Fonte. .......all that is true, but he was (previously) forced to play quite a few games at full back, whereas he was first and foremost bought as a central defender. He'll be in the Japanese squad for the World Cup, but should certainly get an outing for Saints in our various Cup ties. However, agree that no-one is likely to get a look-in for Prem.games with the Lovren / Fonte duo playing as well as they are at present.
