Stoke Build Up Thread

Can't change a winning team.

Why? MP has demonstrated clearly that he will change a team to fit the circumstances. Stoke away are a very different proposition to Fulham at home. I would not be surprised to see Davis back in ahead of JWP although it would be harsh on the lad, may also be in place of J-Rod. Probably not much else changed though.

Btw, we also spent £64m this summer apparently, blimey....

Yeah, and we still got "battered" at Man U. Apparently.

I'm going to this. According to this Stoke fans are a bit mental and you should avoid your Saints colours around ground. Is this right?

Stoke have long had a sizeable mob that also turnout for England, the 'Naughty-40' may not be so evident these days but vigilance is advisable on most awaydays, paticularly at he likes of Stoke.

Never met a Stoke fan with a decent appreciation of football. They also seem to permanently have a chip on their shoulder. Would be nice to come away with 3 points. Surprised we haven't sold out for this yet, all those people that can't get tickets for other away games have got a good, cheap opportunity here.

Out of respect for the Stoke City fans, Jack Cork should not be in the starting line up this week and Saints will have to make do with Wanyama in the holding midfield role. Maybe it will give Stoke an advantage, but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices.

Interesting to see how different the Saints team will be this week compared to last January when there was no Boruk, Clyne, Lovren, Wanyama, Lallana, Osvaldo, JWP or Davis.

Should be the same team with possibly Osvaldo and Davis back for JWP/Lambert. Shawcross and Huth are great in the air so may need a little more mobility/movement?

Apart from on Saturday when they were out-jumped by those 2 beanpoles, Rooney and Hernandez. ;)

P.S. (Assumes Roger-style persona)

Are you for real? Rickie scored in both games against Stoke last season. You idiot!

(Ends Roger-style persona)

sorry.

Here's our team from the 3-3 there last year:

01 K Davis

03 Yoshida

05 Hooiveld

06 Fonte

23 Shaw (Fox - 82' )

04 Schneiderlin

18 Cork

21 Guly

42 Puncheon (Richardson - 85' )

07 Lambert

09 Rodriguez

In bold are the players that won't be starting on Saturday, having all been replaced by better, or simply standing in for injuries at the time. The most significant are probably Boruc, Lovren and Clyne.

I thought pitch sizes were all identical in the PL these days...or does that come in next season?

They're different sizes. Palace, Fulham, Stoke, Tottenham have small pitches. Dembele was blaming the small pitch at WHL for their difficulty in breaking down sides that pack midfield.

for me we have to play Lambert in this game due to the physical nature of Stoke's game , although I think this has changed slightly under Hughes.

it certainly won't be easy up there , just got to keep on defending well, I've got a feeling it will be 0-0.

Agree though I think 1-1 is more likely

No it isnt. When we played them in the Championship it kicked off big time in there with chairs flying and kids cowering under tables. They are a nasty bunch of meatheads.

Not true. The one pub near the ground is a Harvester, shared happily with home and away fans.

Anyway, if you wear stripes, how could they tell?

Will take your word for it as I wasn't at that one, but I've been there three times with no trouble.

If i was a stoke fan i'd be talking about their last min winner and a great game of football not a incident by a thug of a footballer bringing down one of our players. If we play like we have been its another easy victory for us. Not in the slightest bit worried about stoke.

Last minute equaliser you mean. I'm going to this. Any recommendations for pubs? We're going by train which will probably mean hanging around the town centre then getting the bus or walking to the ground. It seems a fair walk but not any longer than the walk from Colchester station to the ground.
