whelk Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 Barca v Real Madrid on at same time as our game tomorrow. Gutted as was hoping to watch afterwards and assumed was 8pm. Won't do much for our viewing figures on Sky either.
dellboypete Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 From what I've read in the spanish press most of spain will be tuning to saints v fulham as they have heard that we have taken the barca style a step further and want to see what all the fuss in the european press is all about!! Interesting how you assume I care for marketing reasons. We are not on tv much and would be good to be the main focus game for rest of uk so that all the non regular fans were watching our game eg journos on Twitter. They would have been but now will be watching the barca. From this forum sensitivity and getting over excited with 5live or sky praise clearly many want us to be appreciated. Fully expect the retort of 'who cares' as this place seems to be rife with macho posturing but clearly many do.
Colinjb Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 A Saints v Fulham type game is there on the Saturday night schedule to fill the quota of getting two more unfashionable clubs out the way so that they can fill the spots with the bigger teams more frequently. Sky will have no expectations for it. Viewing figures are essentially irrelevant. I agree with the OP at the clash with the Classico though, it would have been nice to see that. Hatch Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 viewing figures are important, if more people watch our games, we will feature more often, there by bringing in more revenue.
The9 Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 How are we meant to create a global brand and attract casual fans if no one watches us on Sky? Presumably through the other 200-ish tv providers outside the UK? Of course they'll all be watching Real v Barca as well - and I fail to see the logic of employing a Spanish-speaking manager when South Americans have their own football teams to support and bigger Spanish-friendly European clubs too. In fact, I'm surprised we haven't got a Malaysian or Indonesian manager - or maybe a Chinese one, there's a market to break into.
Batman Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 (edited) although this is a game of gigantic proportions. one of the very biggest in sport, let along football. the level of diving, rolling around really winds me up with the Spanish league and this game in particular what is odd, that we wont get to see the whole game on sky Edited 25 October, 2013 by Batman

Toomer Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 Real only became popular in the UK when Beckham went there with the glory hunting kids buying his shirt.
ericofarabia Posted 25 October, 2013 Share Posted 25 October, 2013 Have a thought for Saints Fans outside the local area who want to watch our game at their local - not many will be showing us over El Classico. Probably means we'll have a couple of TV's inside Barasti with muted commentary instead of The Big Screen / Sound outside. A good chance to see if Barca are up to our standards yet, whilst watching us do the business on Fulham.

Tbh my main point was annoyed as wanting to watch the game later. I don't think it will damage our profile or any low viewing figures will be detrimental although nice to be the centre piece at times.
