Saint-Armstrong Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Sky Sports News' Mark McAdam on Twitter: Met Jose Fonte at #saintsfc today. "If Ronaldo wants to win the Champions league he should come here..." Feature on SSN tomorrow from 6pm.
Colinjb Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Let the brainwashing of the media continue. If you repeat any rubbish often enough it will be accepted, the Skates being the largest fan owned in the country for instance.
dubai_phil Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 It has been really hard switching from keeping ones' head down for being a Saints fan for much of the last 15 years or so, But it's even harder coming to grips with all this stuff. It isn't just in the media. Was out at a Trade Show party last night speaking with a Kaiserslauten fan. He was extremely knowledgeable about us this season, comparing our style to Barca and Bayern. He was inpressed that MP had converted us to our new style slightly quicker than Pep at Bayern (although they are now ahead of us) It is all very Odd and one waits for the wheels to come off somewhere somehow
hypochondriac Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 This champions league stuff is a bit embarrassing. It reminds me of the skates and the utter rubbish their players talk in the media.

Exactly, we've had long enough of being "perennial strugglers" or little old Southampton in the media, I'm loving every minute of it. Champions League here we come!
simo Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 But will the curse of sky strike this weekend !?!?!?!?!?
Patrick Bateman Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 This champions league stuff is a bit embarrassing. It reminds me of the skates and the utter rubbish their players talk in the media. Come on, lighten up - does it really matter? It amuses me.

niceandfriendly Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Obviously Fonte said that tongue in cheek. Embarrassing? Blimey.
simo Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Everything seems to be embarrassing lately is was called it for having an idea for a song for Lovern people need to lighten up and and enjoy the moment it when its here we sure as hell had enough bad times before the last few years !
Dig Dig Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 When people say they are embarrassed by this type of stuff, do you go all red and hot?
Batman Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 When people say they are embarrassed by this type of stuff, do you go all red and hot? They don't leave the house for days
latter day saint Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 They don't leave the house for days you can tell that by their post count
dubai_phil Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Did he also offer you tickets when we play them in the champions league and spend the rest of the night drinking beer and singing the Adam Lallana song with you, just like the very knowledgable about Saints Bayern Munich fans you met two weeks ago? FFS Turks stick with the facts. That was 3 weeks ago not 2. OK back to reality, the point he actually made is that there are 3 teams playing tikki takka pressing football properly at the moment. GOOD teams struggle against it as it disrupts their rhythm. Bad teams can play the get out hoof ball in behind the attacking FB's (he'd seen teams try that in Germany). MP alluded to this in his Presser today when he talked about the risks of our system and Swansea for one nearly hurt us with Dyer v Fox as a match up He actually compared us (AND Bayern & Barca) to the the Crazy Gang days of Wimbledon (blame BTF's thread in the Lounge for this) but we are playing a Disruptive style of football which when combined with new fitness levels is causing teams problem. (Note we aren't playing crazy gang hoofball simply that it is a new "method" - the Bielsa way of playing) The point being that other teams are struggling to cope with our style and variation of play and our fitness levels. Wimbledon's style carried them to punch above their weight (in a very negative way of course) and he feels that us Barca & Bayern were the first to get this new system working THIS season and that other teams have problems. Now here is my question. Did the idea of this style come from "The Southampton Way" or did it come solely from MP? CLEARLY we are much better at it under MP and the players have totally bought into it, but was this a Football Development decision or was it because Mourinho or whoever recommended MP to Cortese?
Turkish Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Its incredible that everytime you leave the house you end up having in depth conversations with Germans who know everything there is to know about Southampton FC.
RonManager Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 Its incredible that everytime you leave the house you end up having in depth conversations with Germans who know everything there is to know about Southampton FC. Which is weird considering he is unemployed and lives on a windswept caravan site in Northumberland.
GAS Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 I think Dortmund were playing this way long before Bayern. And still continue to play that way. It's a difficut way to play for 90 mins and you need to get a few goals behind you - or in our case, keep clean sheets. I think our pressing, high tempo game has been compromised by our defensive qualaties. But what a great base to work from. One last point, we can only play the way we do because of the technically gifted players we have. Not many teams have the players to carry it out. And that includes previous saints teams. FFS Turks stick with the facts. That was 3 weeks ago not 2. OK back to reality, the point he actually made is that there are 3 teams playing tikki takka pressing football properly at the moment. Saint_clark Posted 24 October, 2013 Posted 24 October, 2013 This champions league stuff is a bit embarrassing. It reminds me of the skates and the utter rubbish their players talk in the media. It's mostly people coming from outside the club, why should we be embarrassed by it?
hypochondriac Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 It's mostly people coming from outside the club, why should we be embarrassed by it? No it isn't.
saintds Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 Did this happen ? Anyone see it? This - anyone got any links?
kwsaint Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 I was in Italy a couple of weeks ago for work, and the taxi driver in Milan spoke good English. The corruption in Italian football had stopped him watching AC Milan. He was following English football, knew all about Saints players and that we were doing well. He named Lambert, Boruc, Osvaldo. Next one threw me. How is Do Prado doing?

Jack Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 How is do Prado doing? Famously scored a hat trick away at Palamos in pre season causing wild pitch invasions from the travelling support, and had about 3 touches of the ball in competitive games since. Cult hero

Cult hero His cross won the corner from which we scored a late equaliser at Old Trafford last week - that's one to tell the grand kids! He does a job for the squad, and he does it well.
Jack Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 I wasn't slating him, I think he's useful enough on his day. I just hope we get the skates away in the cup at some point, Guly comes on as a late sub, Guly scores, you know the rest...

Glasgow_Saint Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 Guly has become a saints joke / embarrassment. Guys in the office are aware of his 2 year dry spell and call him La broma
dronskisaint Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 So did anyone see this or did it not happen after all the thin-skinned hand wringing over the embarrassment?
Gemmel Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 Guly has become a saints joke / embarrassment. Guys in the office are aware of his 2 year dry spell and call him La broma Yeah they must be laughing their heads off..............who won the corner at old Trafford again???????????????
Saint_clark Posted 25 October, 2013 Posted 25 October, 2013 Yeah they must be laughing their heads off..............who won the corner at old Trafford again??????????????? Ignore Glasgow, he has no genuine opinion of his own and simply spouts out whatever will get a reaction or whatever he thinks will make him look like a footballing genius.
niceandfriendly Posted 26 October, 2013 Posted 26 October, 2013 I really hope nobody managed to get a video of this piece... if I hear mention of Champions League I'll be so embarrassed I won't be able to leave the house for a month. Oh gosh, I just can't bear the embarrassment!!!!!!!!!
martel Posted 26 October, 2013 Posted 26 October, 2013 This champions league stuff is a bit embarrassing. It reminds me of the skates and the utter rubbish their players talk in the media. I do have to agree, one step at a time, I remember Ipswich getting into Europe in there first season back in the premiership, the next season they took the drop, this is just our second season back and frankly a top ten place would be great progress, a european place next season or even the one after will be soon enough.

Oh gosh, I just can't bear the embarrassment!!!!!!!!! You think that discussing our CL chances is bad? Look at this loonie on twitter........ Steve Grant @SteveGrant1983 8h I've genuinely just read an article in the mainstream media discussing PL title chances. #saintsfc feature, Man United don't. Scenes.
ericofarabia Posted 26 October, 2013 Posted 26 October, 2013 Its incredible that everytime you leave the house you end up having in depth conversations with Germans who know everything there is to know about Southampton FC. He's not the only one meeting up with Germans ...... I hear that Bearsy met some Young German Boys in Brighton recently ...... seems Corporal Jones was wrong about them ;-)
studentsaint Posted 27 October, 2013 Posted 27 October, 2013 Gulys run took away the defender and made space for lovren at old Trafford. Great run and goal wouodnt of happened if not for his excellent run.
