Attacking Midfielder in January...

So then, I think it is fairly obvious that Gaston is out of favour with Pochettino (don’t know why) so I believe we will be bringing in a new attacking mid to sit behind Osvaldo/Lambert up front. So the question is, who? Here are the players that I believe may be available for £15m or under, and could do that job for us:

Dembele

Holtby

Sigurdsson

Alan Dzagoev (maybe not)

Oxlade–Chamberlain

Hatem Ben Arfa

Jordan Henderson (don’t laugh)

Javi Garcia (and push Morgan forward)

Ricardo Alvarez

Pablo Piatti

Ever Banega

Any thoughts?

Dembele - would be more like 20m IMO

Holtby - no thanks

Sigurdsson - no thanks

Alan Dzagoev (maybe not) - no thanks

Oxlade – Chamberlain - not sure he could play in that role begind the striker...

Hatem Ben Arfa - yes please, but not for more than 12m

Jordan Henderson (don’t laugh) - the brackets say enough

Javi Garcia (and push Morgan forward) - nope, not looked good at all at citeh

Ricardo Alvarez - yes, also would give good people to moan if he doesnt score a goal a game as he is from SA

Pablo Piatti - no thanks

Ever Banega - YES PLEASE

Find it funny how everyone dismisses premiership talent and votes instead for players they have never seen (Banega)

Its a gamble to operate like that - some work (Lovren) and some defo dont (Ramirez, Osvaldo(?), Lee, Mayuka, De ridder, Forren (lol), Guly)

I apologise if this starts a debate that is completely off topic, but please don't put Guly in that list...

The bloke was bought while we were in League 1, and no matter what you think about him at this level, he has been a hell of a signing...

There I wanted to say it, I did, I'm sorry if this opens a can of worms...

Some people have obviously been wronged by Guly. Perhaps Guly knobbed Glasgow's Mum.

The only possible ones in january would be Banega or Piatti but Piatti isn´t a number 10 really though but a lovely player if he can come back to his old self before he went to Valencia.

Wouldn´t complain at all about Banega but would love to find some younger gem like Fischer or Cabella, but that´s me...

I don't think we should assume gaston is on his way just yet... Poch has had him on extra training sessions for a while so is obviously trying to get something out of him.. lets see what happens.

I do think that if we recieve a bid that is equal to what we paid for him we should seriously consider it however.

It will be interesting.

We need a powerful No. 10 however, someone with an engine like rooney.. otherwise they won't fir MP's game plan and will just be another gaston all over again.

Should be interesting to see how things develop between now and January at either rate.

I'll apoligise now before Gemmel comes and tells me off for talking utter drivel again.

I don't agree with the opening statement. I think GR still has a lot to offer. At the moment he's not getting a game because we are doing very well and the manager doesn't have to change much from game to game. We'll get injuries and he'll get his chance and when he does it will still take him a few games to get match sharp. Same could be said of Jack Cork, but I don't see many threads about use finding a replacement for him in January.

Also, isn't the old adage that you need two good players for every position. For me Gaston fits into that bracket when you look at our squad and the candidates for attacking midfield.

If you look at the current starting 11 (of which Gaston isn't one) which players / positions could we realistically upgrade in Jan? I'd say pretty much only the positions that Steven Davis and J-Rod play in.

Very well said. People need to see some of these #ourjourney videos on youtube to remind themeselves of the important role he played - e.g. 10+ goals in our Championship season. Actually even I was surprised by De Ridder looking useful on occassions too. We just moved up too quickly for him to keep up I think.

Jack Cork has already been replaced, by Wanyama?

Gaston isn't finished, MP said when he arrived that he would make every player a better player and we can see that is what he and his coaching team is doing and I guess Gaston is just having to learn to adapt to tougher training and different tactics, when he is ready.....look out!

When do you think he might be ready?

Guly has been great for us and has scored some crucial goals since he joined, but not recently. I now see him more as a holding midfielder when we are under siege than an attacking threat.

Gaston will now of course be brought on to unlock a stubborn Fulham defence, score a hat tick and become our leading scorer

to be fair this is the thread for attacking midfielders. I think lallana runs funny + jack cork smells.

My misses reckons that Jack Cork wears short shorts... I don't know if that is attacking him or not, but thought I'd give it a mention.

With the French government about to tax football players at 75% and the players federation calling for strike action from next month, there should be some class pickings from French Clubs. Can't see many players wanting to remain in France and pay to the taxman when they can move abroad and pay less. Being in one or two class French players would surely help Morgan gain international recognition.

That's wrong ART, the government are going to tax clubs on salaries over 1 million euros per annum at 75% of the exceeding amount. The players won't have to pay, just the clubs. So a player on say 7 million euros a year (Gourcuff) will cost Lyon 4.5 million extra in tax over and above the already insane social charges. French football will be reduced to kids and Africans who'll play for virtually nothing in a few years time. Anyway there are no players worth having in France any more, all virtually gone the day Hollande got elected, Qatar FC excepted of course but as they sting us for their oil and own half of Paris it's just a money go round for them..
