Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Indeed it was, Championship side who run out of puff after an hour. Blackpool all over again. Can't see them attracting much of a manager really. Michael Appleton & Steve Cotterill dream team?
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Michael Appleton & Steve Cotterill dream team? something of that ilk yes, unless some "vieille gloire" like O'Neill has had enough of the dole queue and will take any old job to get back into football. Must be a few of them hanging about.
Sour Mash Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Don't particularly like the bloke, but a ridiculous decision, he's done great for them all told, they're unlikely to get anyone who will keep them up.

A few candidates with prem experience - Alex McLeish Steve Kean Gary Megson Iain Dowie Paul Jewell George Burley Sven-Göran Eriksson Kevin Keegan Avram Grant Paul Hart Tony Adams Neil Warnock Steve Wigley Paolo Di Canio Martin O'Neill Roy Keane
Dig Dig Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Holloway will now end up in the Championship again as soon as a fairly decent job comes up. Maybe even the Boro job.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Gone: Shows just how patient we were with Adkins last season. Palace have a ridiculously weak side though, depends on who decided it was good enough to attempt the PL with. .

Palace have a ridiculously weak side though, depends on who decided it was good enough to attempt the PL with. . Nothing to do with patience according to Cortese, he knew exactly when he was going to change manager and stuck with it.
Saint-Armstrong Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 From what I've seen... Holloway offered resignation on Monday night. Owner said they should sleep on it, further talks and IH still wanted to go. Mutually agreed.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 The Palace squad was awfully managed this summer though. They signed a bloke from Bordeaux for a few bob and then just simply didn't include him in their 25 for the PL, don't think he even played for them and then they just paid him off. That sort of gig must have cost them a pretty penny, probably had to pay up a 2 year contract plus whatever they gave Bordeaux. Can't really see that the bloke was any worse than Kevin Phillips or that bloke Gayle and probably a damn sight cheaper.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Di Canio is now manager at Catane, don't know if they're in the Italian 1st or 2nd division. Ooops wrong Di Canio, Luigi. haha thought you were doing a joke PMSL

Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 what a joke of a decision really not if he resigned, not being manager of Palace can't not be a good thing.Perhaps he's disappointed by the level of investment. I mean who'd really want to try to get results out of that pile of crap for another 30 PL games this season.
saint si Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Step forward, the premier league's #1 relegation avoidance expert! (except for those two times when it wasn't his fault)
Dig Dig Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 if he was sacked, then that is mental All seems to point back to the summer transfer situation. Players coming in and not even making the 25 man squad and others who are benched or not included in the squad. Holloway referred to changes in the squad and lost team spirit because of it. Seems to indicate that players were forced on him and his refusal to play them won't have gone down well with the men upstairs. Goes to show how important the clubs set up and infrastructure is like at every level.

Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Nothing like Vegard Forren's situation then. At least we sold him for about half of what we paid, don't know how much of his contract we eventually had to subsidise though. They just wrote this bloke off, lock stock and barrel.
Jack Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 It is funny. Don't like Holloway and don't particularly like Palace, despite always enjoying trips to Selhurst. They'll have a good race for the wooden spoon with Sunderland IMO
Batman Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 quite sad how some fans are still hung up on holloways comments. all very brighton if you ask em

They'll have a good race for the wooden spoon with Sunderland IMO People were saying similar things about us last season regarding relegation, us and Villa I think, neither of us went down. Sunderland may well buck up a bit but even we had more points than they have last season, can't say the same for Palace. Could be that there is only one relegation place to be decided after only 8 games, Saints could well be safe by the end of November .
Batman Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 (edited) how many points did we have 8 games in last season and how many goals against? we also had by far a superior squad and people expected to stick with the manager no matter what as we had the next fergie etc etc etc edit. we had 4 points and let in 24 goals. they had 3 points and have let in 17 Edited 23 October, 2013 by Batman
rooney Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 He left Plymouth completely in the lurch when they were doping well after claiming that he was "home" and then went to Leicester. Karma again.

Fair few goals though, 15 or so perhaps, shedload in the against column, nigh on 30 i'd guess..
Batman Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Might have had 4 points (win against Villa and a draw against Fulham ?) Fair few goals though, 15 or so perhaps. we scored 13, to their 6 at this stage. we were on -11 GD they are on -11 GD

stevegrant Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Don't particularly like the bloke, but a ridiculous decision, he's done great for them all told, they're unlikely to get anyone who will keep them up. The last part is almost certainly true, but a significant reason for that is his absolute cluster**** of a transfer policy. Rather than shore up a defence that was crap in the Championship, he decided to spunk a load of money on wingers and strikers, and proceed to not pick most of them. I'd seriously contest that he's "done great" for them - he got the better of Brighton and Watford in the playoffs, but they were only in the playoffs as a result of an 88th-minute winner against Peterborough. They were top after his first game in charge, and won only one of their last ten league games.
hasper57saint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Palace Owner Parish is now looking for a Foreign manager and it has been suggested he goes for Viagra as the solution for keeping them up!
SuperMikey Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Hate that f*cking wurzel. Good riddance! Wonder who they'll get in...like others have said, nobody who can keep them up.
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Hate that f*cking wurzel. Good riddance! Wonder who they'll get in...like others have said, nobody who can keep them up. It's not the manager who can't keep them up it's the rabble that play for them, they have not one superior player in any single department of the game.

Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Football teams that employ him are definitely aving a Not really because he's got a couple of sides promoted to the PL these last years, he can get promotion but then he's out of his depth pretty quickly. Once again it's about being able to recognise a PL player when he sees one and then knowing what to do with him. I just can't repeat enough just how good you need to be to be even a bog average PL player simply because of the standard of the opposition.

Smirking_Saint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Holloway will now end up in the Championship again as soon as a fairly decent job comes up. Maybe even the Boro job. This, wasnt it a 'mutual decision' which means that Holloway probably saw the writing on the wall and the board have ambition above what they could possibly achieve although Id say they did poor in the TW. May even see Mowbray come this way and Holloway go to Boro
OttawaSaint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Step forward, the premier league's #1 relegation avoidance expert! (except for those two times when it wasn't his fault) "moy spiwichwual ome weally..." "twiffic club" "daan to the bare bones"
Wrensup Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Anyone else think it was such a strange press conference?
angelman Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 Not sure he was sacked by the sound of things. Seems the job got on top of him and Parish tried to persuade him to stay. Would Warnock go back? I quite like him, well at least from what I have heard of him on talkSPORT.
Smirking_Saint Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 "moy spiwichwual ome weally..." "twiffic club" "daan to the bare bones" QPR was a mistake for him, surely he is t stupid enough to take the palace job
Window Cleaner Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 QPR was a mistake for him, surely he is t stupid enough to take the palace job He'll get back up with QPR this season and then probably call it a day, maybe one more season provided they aren't heading for the trap door again..
lordswoodsaints Posted 23 October, 2013 Posted 23 October, 2013 I think he's on the same level as Adkins,a decent lower league manager but will never make anything of themselves in the top league, although Adkins is a bit more dignified holloway is comedy gold.
