Turkish Posted 22 October, 2013 Share Posted 22 October, 2013 If results go our way, we can't catch Arsenal whatever happens but if WBA win at Anfield and we win we will be second, if we win we will be at least 3rd which is an incredible achievement and far more than we could have hoped for, yet still we aren't selling out. Isn't this what we were told the bigger stadium was needed for? Serious investment in the side and a team playing well challenging at the top of the table. I'm not really sure what saints have to do to get the fans to put their hand in their pockets.

Glasgow_Saint Posted 22 October, 2013 Share Posted 22 October, 2013 Our style of football will not help, playing every game hoping to win 1-0 will not thrill some. It also wont help attract the next generation Plus this game is on Sky
John Boy Saint Posted 22 October, 2013 Share Posted 22 October, 2013 Saturday evening live on Sky convenience over v anti-social kick off scheduling, ticket prices in general have made football a considered purchase especially for families. Hardworking folks just wanting to take the lazy option and not copping it in the ear off the other half.............. Strictly and X-Factor on the TV the reasons all rack up. I expect if this game was 3pm on Saturday afternoon there would be a healthy queue at the ticket office to snap up the last few tickets. The only downside to 5:30 kick off is: Coming down from the north of the county leaving home around 3:30pm my only dilemma is Do we eat out en route home, get a Chinese take out going home, prepare something for warming up when we get home, or raid M&S for something nice and easy to cook when we get home? Should ask the MODs to insert a Poll so everyone can vote and give me one less thing to think about!!

I'm not really sure what saints have to do to get the fans to put their hand in their pockets. Take the Sky element out of the equation. The answer to your question is that Saints need to be in or around the top 6 for the whole season before the more hardened cynics and the less committed put their hands in their pockets. The first stadium sell out of the season, whenever it comes, won't prove that we should extend the stadium any more than us getting circa 30k on Saturday will prove that we shouldn't. Golden Balls Posted 23 October, 2013 Share Posted 23 October, 2013 I'm confused. Is this thread supposed to be about us winning and potentially going 2nd or a way to rehash a debate that seems to be dominated by the same forum member(s) every other week? fez Posted 23 October, 2013 Share Posted 23 October, 2013 If we were in the same league position with a goal difference of 5 - but with 10 more goals scored and conceded - then we'd be more likely to sell out. People want to see us score.

The Cat Posted 23 October, 2013 Share Posted 23 October, 2013 Knock a tenner off the price for all TV home games. Guaranteed sell outs and a better atmosphere. We're not selling that many less than ten years ago when it was cheaper and every game wasn't free to watch on the internet.
Turkish Posted 23 October, 2013 Author Share Posted 23 October, 2013 I don't buy the price issue fully. In the championship when we used to get 22,000 lots of people claimed then that it was the weather, surprise great aunties birthday parties, school holidays, christening, train issues and road works that prevented them going. Well we seem to have found an extra 7,000 or so every week since then who don't have any of those things going on and it's considerably more expensive now than it was then. Yeah, which means if the prices were lower we'd have found even more than 7000 extra fans.

Saint_clark Posted 23 October, 2013 Share Posted 23 October, 2013 The were much lower in the championship and more didn't come. Because we were in the Championship. It isn't an either/or scenario. It's really not that hard to grasp... there's a group of people who (rightly or wrongly) are only interested in Prem football. But not all of them are obviously fussed enough to pay the prices - were prices lower however they might want to come.

So people want investment the side and multimillion pound signings, good football, challenging at the top of the premier league all at championship prices? The fact we selling around 90% of tickets at the high price means the club have got the pricing policy bang on doesn't it?

Turkish Posted 23 October, 2013 Author Share Posted 23 October, 2013 Our prices are pretty much in line with everyone else in the league. When you consider the investment in the squad over the last two years I'm not really sure what people are complaining about. http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/jun/19/premier-league-ticket-prices-club-charge-the-most
SaintBobby Posted 24 October, 2013 Share Posted 24 October, 2013 I'm going less this season. I live in London and a lot of games are on TV. This is (a) disruptive and (b) okayish even if I stay at home cos I can still watch the game. So, I skipped West Ham and will also skip Fulham. Miltonaggro Posted 24 October, 2013 Share Posted 24 October, 2013 Speaking to some friends recently who have always been 'casual' fans, I think there is a sense of shock that we are where we are this season, and how far the club has come in such a short space of time. There is also a groundswell amongst all Saints fans of whether we can keep this up, or when the bubble will burst, and so on. So whilst expense is clearly an issue at the current time with past regulars (especially those with families) having to pick and choose games, the way to attract new fans is sustained success. The nearest we've come to this in recent years was the strong finish and FA Cup final under Strachan, which led to our highest average attendances at SMS in the season after. So, win a pot, and keep up the development so that people buy in to SFC, rather than thinking we are a flash in the pan. Our pricing is comparatively high across the business, and Cortese is investing on 90% plus capacity, so he may well feel he's got pricing spot on...
