Royally bu$$ered mine :(

Slipped on some very slippery decking on Thursday and ended up sitting on my bent left leg. Managed to completely detach the quadriceps tendon from my knee cap. The crack it made when it snapped was unbelievable!

Had holes drilled in the kneecap and the detached tendon threaded through the holes.

Crutches for 6 weeks then bendy brace for at least another 6 weeks.

Bored rigid already but not so very painful so far althoiugh it f***ing hurt when I did it.

Convince yourself that the building of new muscle in the thigh/knee is worth it. Can really compensate for any weaknesses inside the knee if the thigh muscle is well trained and keeping everything in place. Other than that: find a good tv show and relax ;)

I feel your pain BTF. Rule 1 Physio Rule 2 Physio and then do more of your own Physio as fast as possible.

I buggered my left knee Cartlidge whatever 20 years ago and it was 2 years before going for an exploratory Op which did something inside to tighten it up, thing was moving here I never did the Physio.

And of course 15 years later I do the Cartlidge because the muscles had all been in the wrong places. Anyway now I am one accidental wrong twist away from being completely ****ed, even a gentle tweak wipes me out for a week or more.

IF ONLY is my motto on this as now the only way I would ever get back on a ski slope or play any sport other than golf I would need a whole new bionic knee, and in a land where you have only Private Medical Insurance ain't nobody ever going to pay for that kind of pre-exisiting.

Get the Dance shoes out, the Bicycle Machine in the Bedroom and those coloured elastic bands on the legs of the bed or sideboard

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think I have to wait a bit for the soft tissue (tendons) to knit back onto the kneecap before I try any sort of exercise. I can't test it because of the cast but I know, at the moment, that my kneecap is wandering all over the place.

But I do remember from when I ruptured the medial ligament in my other knee, that I had to flex the foot and raise the leg to strengthen the quadriceps. At the moment it's as much as I can do to hobble to the loo in a vaguely dignified fashion lol. Still, being still very supple, I can pick stuff off the floor without having to bend zee knees - that's quite helpful in my house!

But at least being fit, even if old, gives me a reasonable chance of a good recovery. I'll be ironing by WEdnesday, you'll see :)

Yup, I buggered both knees doing Kung Fu (well, the first was carrying someone on an activity not related to kung fu, but occuring in class and the second twisting on a sticky pub floor during a "Kung fu" Summer holiday...The Isle of Wight is a git to go an A&E)...I say my knee, technically, both times, on different knees it was my ACL.

Cheers! It's not my week - laptop died on me earlier today so Mr TF had to rush out and buy me a new one. The thought of being immobile for 6 weeks without access to the interweb is a major form of torture!

It looks like its us that's in for a major form of torture instead then.
