Fulham (H) Build Up

If ever there was a side to play with our style, Fulham would be it. 2 strikers who are isolated and anonymous for most of the game, supported by an ageing, lethargic midfield and defence, who will struggle with our pressing.

The same fixture last year was a microcosm of our early season form: a goal threat but let down by disorganised and ponderous defending. I hope this year will display our energy, confidence and perseverance the first 8 games have shown.

My team:

Boruc

Clyne-Fonte-Lovren-Shaw

Schneiderlin-Wanyama

Rodriguez-JWP-Lallana

Lambert

Subs: Davis, Hooiveld, Chambers, Davis, Cork, Osvaldo, Ramirez

I'll go with our old favourite, a 3-1 win, Lambert, Wanyama and Rodriguez with the goals

Fulham aren't a bad side, and it will be very easy for us to slip up in this one. Berbatov and Bent will score goals if they get a sniff.

I like Sidwell in the middle and if Ruiz plays, they have a genuine link between the midfield and the front 2.

However, they are a very old side in general. They have 2 days less recovery time.

If we play as we can, we should keep them under wraps. The question mark is if we'll create enough against them, as they're the sort of team who will stick 2 banks of 4 behind the ball and sit. Will imagine this will be a tough watch!

Barring injury, I think 10 players are certainties to start, boruc, Clyne, Fonte, lovren, shaw, victor, Morgan, lallana, osvaldo and Davis. The other spot is between lambert, j rod and jwp IMO. The only change I'd make to the 18 picked yesterday is Ramirez on the bench for guly. Guly does have aerial ability which can be useful at the end of the game either end of the pitch, but Ramirez is surely a better option if you need something special at the end of the game. That aside, we really do look to have a solid 18 player squad there. Good times.

For me, any lineup that does not exclude both Lambert and JWP...... We really need to make the most of dead ball situations in every game, especially as we are still lacking goals from open play.

We should win this one though. Anything less than a win will be a massive disappointment.

Don't forget the Live TV Game Curse to overcome as well!!

I go with pretty much what everyone else is thinking - winnable game but one we could easily mess up in. Keep as we've been doing - solid defensively and hoping for a spark to get a goal up front.

2-0 my prediction, similar team with perhaps a tiny bit of rotation up front.

-----------------Boruc-------------

------------------------------------

Clyne -- Lovren -- Fonte -- Shaw

------------------------------------

---Wanyama ---- Schneiderlin---

------------------------------------

Ward-Prowse---Davis----Lallana

------------------------------------

----------Osvaldo/Lambert-------

Subs; K.Davis, Yoshida, Chambers, Cork, Rodriguez, Ramirez/Do Prado, Osvaldo/Lambert.

Cant decide which striker to start with, would like to see Ward-Prowse start on current form. Cant move any of the rest really, our only real area for improvement rests in attack.

Can't help but think we'll draw this one. Just seems to happen whenever we're confident of a win!

All the people dropping Davis, really???

He's been one of our best players the last few weeks and was excellent yesterday. I can't understand why so many drop him to fit others into the team

He will start for sure, in fact I'd look at the same team that started vs ManU with JWP instead of Rodrigues.

Three very winnable games in a row now. Win all 3 and we can go into the tougher ones that follow with real confidence and with nothing to lose.

I don't see Fulham scoring against us at home. I predict a dominant 2-0 win. Stoke away we will nick 1-0 and then back to St Marys for a 2-1 win.

Lallana is absolutely key these next few games. Davis has been fantastic. I really want to see either Lambert or J Rod hold the last available place down with some excellent performances, sadly I don't think it will happen and I see them interchanging depending on who and where we play (would be amazed if we dont start with Lambo vs Fulham at home for example). Now imagine if we had Benega in that last available spot hmmmmmmm

If I were an opposing player I wouldn't fancy my team's chances of scoring against the Premier League's most in form keeper (IMO), two future England full-backs, one of the best attacking central defenders around and a Fonte who has been playing out of skin behind Wanyama, Morgan and Davis who hassle, hurry and turnover possession like there's no tomorrow. We really are a force to be reckoned with on our day.

I was confident of a win vs Crystal Palace. Weren't you?

Do you take everything literally? Or just love trying to make other people look stupid?

In response to your question yes I was, but I was also confident against West Ham and Sunderland. Not to mention Stoke, QPR and WBA last season.

For me, Davis is one of the first names on the team sheet at present. Excellent bursting forward and adds a lot of energy in the middle of the park. He's been one of MP's best players ever since he's been in the building, he's completely suited to his style.

Fulham are indeed an old side, but with they have experience and some (declining) quality in their side, so they can get anything from any game. It would be a huge mistake to underestimate them. Having said this, I do think this a game we should be winning.

We have lots of attacking quality in the squad and at some point of time it will show by getting a big victory - hopefully it's that game.

As far as it concerns the next three - 9 pts would obviously be amazing, but I think 7 is the ambitious realistic target.

No match is an easy match especially against a struggling team. I'm sitting for a 1-0 Saints win.

I would question why Ramirez is spending so much time on the bench though. A player with so much promise especially feeding into Osvaldo and Lambert!?!?

The discussion re: Davis is interesting, partly because IMO most people have overlooked a key thing... MP doesn't just pick his best, XI, he picks an XI to do a job, and Davis' job on Saturday was clearly to prey on Carrick and prevent him dictating the play. Davis did a good job, Saints played well, but if MP wants to change how we play vs Fulham and Davis is dropped, it will be for a specific reason, I have no doubt.

I've not seen any of Fulham this season so honestly don't know where they're at, but at home I would expect us to play more of our own game.

Completely true and part of Poch's success is because he (and presumably his coaching team) are masters of analyzing what needs to be done on "any given Saturday/Sunday".

Remember the game against Liverpool where the "miracle" boy Sturidge got nowhere near scoring and the subs vs. Swansea two weeks ago that completely changed a game Laundrup's men were dominating.

Comparing this season's results with the equivalent results last year, looks like we're currently 9 points better off (and that ignores the Palace win, since we didn't play them last year.) We've done as well, or better, in every game except Norwich (0-1 loss vs 0-0). Even that disappointing draw with Sunderland to give them 100% of their season's points was better than last year's awful home loss. Last year we drew with Fulham home and away. Another fantastic opportunity to ratchet up the year-on-year comparison.

Another way of putting that: Exclude the Palace game which has no year on year comparison, and take the other 7 games we've played. Last year we got just 3 points from them, this year TWELVE. ...4 times as many. Continue that improvement rate over the season and we end up on, um, 164 points. Point being... you can't just put our current position down to an easy start. We've totally and utterly outperformed compared to last year.
