I remember the days when we conceeded a second goal in the last few mins when chasing 1-0, but yesterday we pulled it back against Manyoo. Fitness and strength must have played a role somewhere

We have Wanyama now, the most frustratingly awful and yet wonderfully brilliant player I've seen for us in a long time. Must be a candidate for the strongest player in the league surely? The opposition have to hate playing him as he's a mean bugger in the tackle and throws his weight around. He is brilliant to watch though when he sets his sights on a man and freight trains them into oblivion :)

If we can just coach a passing game into him (he is only 22) then he'll be an unstoppable wrecking ball of a player.

Vic's passing was better yesterday. The guy is class and will get better.

Weren't we saints fit under Adkins, which was a whole new level of fitness part of the Southampton way?

you could say we are now les reed fit?

In an article about the Eng Poland game, (either the Fail or Torygraph) the Jouno commented that England had played a much higher tempo than usual. He pointed that the 4-2-3-1 formation called for more energy and closing down (and pressing)

He also pointed out that most of the England team were blowing in the second half and hardly had the legs to complete the lap of honour.

He then compared what we are now trying to do with Germany & Spain, he felt we have a chance with this new method but did NOT believe the players would increase their fitness enough in time for the WC.

Now compare that with Saints who play a similar system and many of the PL players we play against showed they were not up to that level of fitness and we can see from our stats and from the effort on the pitch that the Football Development team have cottoned onto something that other PL teams have not.

(Which COULD be another strong reason for Woy to look at Lallana & Clyne in the upcoming friendlies)

We ARE fitter and Morgan for one sure looks a lot stronger this year.

Now, IF we could only introduce Composure & Finishing into our improvement plans we could take over THE WORLD

Many games are 95 mins.+ being able to come on strong at the end of a game, whilst the opposition are breathing through their a**e* means we can score in the last few minutes.

Lambert pen 90 mins. v. WBA.'

Fonte 86 mins. v Sunderland

Ramirez 90 mins. v Barnsley

Hooiveld 83 mins. v Bristol City.

Rodriguez 83 mins. v Swansea

Lallana 89 mins. v Man Utd.

Double training? - sounds good to me. Puts a new interpretation on the phrase ..." playing to the whistle "

Cue, Fulham win 1-0 with a last minute winner !

(I suppose after 40 odd years supporting the Saints it's normal to anticipate a kick in the wotsits but all these stats worry me as they always end when you least expect them !)

Oh I agree totally....and if Fulham are as fit as we are, they may do so.

stats. are only a way of re-canting history (like body counts in a war), but there have been times when a Saints side would have given up all hope if they were 0-1 down in the 10 mins.
