whelk Posted 20 October, 2013 Share Posted 20 October, 2013 Don't think we were unfit under NA but energy level now seem even higher and borne out by the 2nd half performance table http://stats.football365.co.uk/dom/ENG/PR/sndhalf.html We were bottom of the 'pts lost' table last year but now we are the team gaining points in 2nd half which shows good mental strength as well http://stats.football365.co.uk/dom/ENG/PR/ptslost.html
alpine_saint Posted 20 October, 2013 Share Posted 20 October, 2013 I remember the days when we conceeded a second goal in the last few mins when chasing 1-0, but yesterday we pulled it back against Manyoo. Fitness and strength must have played a role somewhere
farawaysaint Posted 20 October, 2013 Share Posted 20 October, 2013 We have Wanyama now, the most frustratingly awful and yet wonderfully brilliant player I've seen for us in a long time. Must be a candidate for the strongest player in the league surely? The opposition have to hate playing him as he's a mean bugger in the tackle and throws his weight around. He is brilliant to watch though when he sets his sights on a man and freight trains them into oblivion If we can just coach a passing game into him (he is only 22) then he'll be an unstoppable wrecking ball of a player. rooney Posted 20 October, 2013 Share Posted 20 October, 2013 We have good people at Staplewood. They will get his passing right just as they have with Lallana's pace this season.

Vic's passing was better yesterday. The guy is class and will get better.

dubai_phil Posted 20 October, 2013 Share Posted 20 October, 2013 In an article about the Eng Poland game, (either the Fail or Torygraph) the Jouno commented that England had played a much higher tempo than usual. He pointed that the 4-2-3-1 formation called for more energy and closing down (and pressing) He also pointed out that most of the England team were blowing in the second half and hardly had the legs to complete the lap of honour. He then compared what we are now trying to do with Germany & Spain, he felt we have a chance with this new method but did NOT believe the players would increase their fitness enough in time for the WC. Now compare that with Saints who play a similar system and many of the PL players we play against showed they were not up to that level of fitness and we can see from our stats and from the effort on the pitch that the Football Development team have cottoned onto something that other PL teams have not. (Which COULD be another strong reason for Woy to look at Lallana & Clyne in the upcoming friendlies) We ARE fitter and Morgan for one sure looks a lot stronger this year. Now, IF we could only introduce Composure & Finishing into our improvement plans we could take over THE WORLD

Oh I agree totally....and if Fulham are as fit as we are, they may do so. stats. are only a way of re-canting history (like body counts in a war), but there have been times when a Saints side would have given up all hope if they were 0-1 down in the 10 mins.
