Roger Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 The best right back in England for me. Doesn't seem to get noticed but that's routledge taken off and the ute hyped winger having to change wings, he was in clynes pocket. Superb, got forward v we'll too.
badgerx16 Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 England can have the clone - we'll keep the original
OldNick Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 If I recall correctly , Clyne put out a twitter after the Under 21 Euros 'get me out of here'or something on those lines.he may have left a poor view of himself with the England set up. I may be barking up the wrong tree of course

S-Clarke Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 Johnson is back in contention now, so he'll be first choice. Kyle Walker will be 2nd choice, and then one of Smalling/Jones will be third hoice. Unfortunately all 4 of those aren't too old either, so it will take something of a major injury crisis for Clyne to get a look in.

S-Clarke Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 Why? He's up there with all of them. Better IMO One thing against him - he has no international experience. If the above are fit, they'd surely be there before Clyne. As they're both first choice for pretty big clubs too. I like Clyne a lot, but putting my neutral hat on for a second.
OldNick Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 C'mon mate show a saints player some support he superb, lol It not me being negative about him, as I really rate him but just pointing to that he may have not come out with glory wit the. England staff, I could be completely wrong about that

Just blocks out his flank. The young utd winger didn't get anything.
SNSUN Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 Agree about Johnson being first choice, and Jones or Smalling as versatile 3rd choices (especially in a reduced tournament squad) but I think Clyne could battle it out with Walker for the second choice spot. Clyne has proved he can play left back too, so he's versatile in that department too, and I rate him as better defensively than Walker too. It could happen, but he'd need to be consistantly brilliant all season. I hope Hodgson has one of those friendlies where fringe players get picked so he can have a look at everyone. (Similar to the MLT England friendly when he scored a hattrick before World Cup 98. (...and never got picked...)
ThreeSixty Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 Thought Clyne was poor today first half. Played Januzaj the wrong way. Fair play to him though, came out 2nd half, made the right adjustments and bossed it.

Red Alert Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 How didn't give him a kick first half at all. Complete rubbish. Didn't give him a kick yet he still played the pass to put Rooney through which led to the Utd goal? I agree Clyne is a class player for us, but as already said he is not close to getting a full England cap with Johnson, Walker and Jones in front of him.
farawaysaint Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 While I agree with the sentiment in general, Clyne didn't have a great game today? Consistently good though and deserves a call up.
Roger Posted 19 October, 2013 Author Posted 19 October, 2013 While I agree with the sentiment in general, Clyne didn't have a great game today? Consistently good though and deserves a call up. Yes he did. Watched game again. The pass for goal he dropped v deep
thefuriousb Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 Neville was at the game today. No doubt he will be able to appreciate and evaluate his (and Shaw's) performance. He seems not to be blinded by having to play for a "top 4" team. He also seems to have been keeping quite a close eye on what has been going on at the club this past year. So, who knows
Graffito Posted 19 October, 2013 Posted 19 October, 2013 The fundamental requirement of a full back is to defend and Clyne is in my opinion a better defender than first choice Johnson. He has no international experience (at senior level) simply because, obviously, he hasn't been picked. Would have been a major risk to have put him in against Poland and quite right that he wasn't selected but there are two friendlies coming up. He should be given a chance in those.
