ByTheGolacs Posted 18 October, 2013 Share Posted 18 October, 2013 Nice piece of work. Anyone know anthing about the author? Well balanced, extremists (on both sides) take note please :-) http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/18/premier-league-supporters-the-dramatic-rise-of-southampton-fc-and-their-fans/related/
Sour Mash Posted 18 October, 2013 Share Posted 18 October, 2013 Great article all told. Don't know how many Yanks will read the whole thing though!
Turkish Posted 18 October, 2013 Share Posted 18 October, 2013 Yes, great to see our " defense" and high pressing soccer being praised. Good to see they understand soccer fans and mentioned them congregating in City center pubs. Good to see him describe a typical Saints as one stuffing his face with a pie and shouting 'Guly you're sh*' too.

Colinjb Posted 18 October, 2013 Share Posted 18 October, 2013 A few generalisations but an otherwise excellent read. I've had a few overseas colleagues ask about us knowing I am a Southampton fan, our exposure is growing and anything to put us in perspective in foreign media can only be positive. South City Si Posted 18 October, 2013 Share Posted 18 October, 2013 Does this mean we'll go after Yank players now now we've cracked the Japanese market? In seriousness good to see us get exposure anywhere. Not seen it so much, even at the cup final it didn't feel we had as wide spread attention. charlie saint Posted 21 October, 2013 Share Posted 21 October, 2013 I assume this is because the English Premier League is getting shown live and all over the place in the USA this season, like it says here: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-08-16/sports/41416559_1_nbc-sports-network-english-premier-league-fox-soccer-channel There was a good article about it in When Saturday Comes the other month - there are taxis and tube trains in New York plastered with advertising urging Americans to pick a team. Quite a good season to be doing so well - as all those 'floating voters' with no real idea of who's (supposed to be) who will may well find themselves be rooting for us. Even if that results in nothing tangible (ticket, shirt, advertising sales), it can't really be bad, can it?
