buctootim Posted 16 October, 2013 Share Posted 16 October, 2013 I agree with Tim. Gee, shucks Why? Rotation for the sake of it? We have been playing well do why change? Because they are three good players; the Morgan / Cork axis worked very well; the pressing game is exhausting; you need players who can slot in in case of injury; you don't want to hack off an important part of the squad. That's it off the top of my head.
Restark19 Posted 16 October, 2013 Share Posted 16 October, 2013 Jack's a very good player and easily good enough to play first team for us regularly as he showed last season, why get rid of him. Surely it makes sense to play him, keep him happy and then if we do suffer an injury it won't impact the side as much
Tony F Posted 16 October, 2013 Share Posted 16 October, 2013 We have spare players covering for injury or other absence in every position on the pitch - sometimes more than one player springs to mind. I think Corky is better off than most, in that he is covering for future absence of EITHER Morgan or VW. Although Davis or JWP might also be used in that way, I am not sure they are natural holding midfielders. As such, surely, he is a valuable squad player whose "time will come" at some stage in the season?? Can't see Poch wanting to unload him so quickly, myself. Jack Posted 16 October, 2013 Share Posted 16 October, 2013 I do feel for him. Had a blinder last season but hasn't had much of a chance since Wanyama came in. I'd like to see him more involved in those games at home when we're struggling to break teams down. He's solid at the back and gets us moving so much quicker than Wanyama, and has got a much better eye for a pass.
doddisalegend Posted 16 October, 2013 Share Posted 16 October, 2013 Think Jack is a class act myself I figured him as a future England player . I can't really understand what he has done to get side lined this season. I'm really not convinced Wanyama is a massive improvement on Jack more of a unit, certainaly, but that is IMO cancelled out by Jack being much more accomplished with the ball. rooney Posted 17 October, 2013 Share Posted 17 October, 2013 Jack Cork is a classy player. He is professional enough to know that the midfeild are playing so well that he will not get in at present. However, somebody will get injured and then he will get his chance, keep his place and then the circle will change again. We must not get rid of quality like him if we wish to remain a force. All I have suggested is that seeing as he isn't playing perhaps Cork will want to move out on loan soon? I wouldn't suggest that is too far-fetched, and isn't me wanting to boot him out. If people didnt start threads then the forum wouldn't really work....

Saint Charlie Posted 17 October, 2013 Author Share Posted 17 October, 2013 Puncheon Sharp now Cork. Not started any threads about Puncheon this season. Would have kept him but don't see it makes a huge difference and not overly bothered (hence why we allowed him out). Not started any threads about Sharp although fully agree he isn't PL quality and we did the right thing by letting him go last year and this. Based on the above it would seem my opinion isnt too farfetched seeing as the club got rid of Punch and Sharp. Obviously did start this thread about Cork - but again not saying we should sell him, just that he might want to go on loan as he isnt playing for us at the moment. He should be in the first choice 3 vying for the 2 places as defensive midfielders. Only if these 3 are not available should Davis and JWP be considered. I'm mystified that Cork has been frozen out and hope MP changes his stance on Cork.
Olallana Posted 17 October, 2013 Share Posted 17 October, 2013 If anyone offers £4-5m for Cork in January we should bite their hand off. Right now he´s been 4th-5th choice in the team and I would guess he himself wants more than that and might consider a move already in his mind. He has only 1,5 years left of his contract and there must be a reason why he´s pretty much the only one from the Championship squad that also contributed in PL that hasn´t got a contract renewal... If it´s he that has turned it down or the club that hasn´t offer him it shows that he´s not here for longterm.

melmacian_saint Posted 17 October, 2013 Share Posted 17 October, 2013 Technically Cork is better than Wanyama, a better passer of the ball as well. But he has almost no pace, and physically Wanyama wins by a country mile. In terms of pressing high, VW is a better option.

I would like to see him in the squad for Saturday and brought on. As much as I like Jack Cork, there isn't really time for sentiment. If the game doesn't need a player like him, then we shouldn't bring him on. He's a good player, no doubt about that, but just as we evolved the other positions in the squad the midfield will be the same. And so will the striker department. He may well move on, and I'll wish him all the best if he does. But if we're performing well and getting results without him in the side, then there's no reason to bring him back. The amount of goals we shipped dropped rapidly last season once Cork got regular games. Still think that while Victor is a good tough tackling unit he gives the ball away far to cheaply with sloppy passing. It's a lot to do with Wanyama in my eyes. Last season we were too easy to play through, if you shrugged off Cork or Morgan (And they're good players, but can be quite weak) then players were through and running at the back 4. So players like Jos and Fonte were made to look a hell of a lot worse than they are, because they had players like Rooney and Van Persie running directly at them! You also had situations whereby the balls would break on the edge of the box and the opposition would try all sorts of long shots, which did sometimes go in, and it didn't exactly make the GK look great. Wanyama shields the back 4 a hell of a lot better. He's hard to get the ball off (when he doesn't give it away that is!!!) and he's a very powerful shield who will stop a player in their tracks. If you also notice teams don't really have an opportunity to hit shots from outside the area either, as Wanyama is hot on the hills to break it up and clear it. I think, if anything, Wanyama's addition has been underestimated by some. He may not look pretty, but he's doing a very commendable job. He gives a platform to players like Boruc, Lovren, Fonte etc to do their jobs a hell of a lot better. He gives us the defensive foundation to build from. SNSUN Posted 17 October, 2013 Share Posted 17 October, 2013 What do you do if your defence is shipping goals? Stick a Cork in it! But it's not, so we must be doing something right without him. Good squad back up though.
