Pubs for Man Utd

From what I've heard away fans can normally get in the Trafford and the Bishops Blaize if there is only a couple of you and not wearing colours etc, not tried either myself and a pub full of Man Utd isn't the most appealing way to spend a Saturday. No "Away Fans" pubs in Manc as such. No end of good pubs in town, just depends which bit you're heading into?

In the evening we will probably just go to a variety of pubs/bars.

I was mainly wanting to know where Saints fans were heading before the game. I'm sure we used to get 'main' pubs to aim for in the lower leagues - was always a good crack. Our support seem to be a lot more diverse now - i guess that's probably as we're going to more big cities people have more choice.

Would rather not spend the whole time before the game in a pub full of Man Utd fans so if it will be much better heading into the city, then that's what we'll do - it's not that far!

Sold out pal. Plus this weekend is going to cost enough! I did look at it a few weeks ago before it sold out but baulked at the price...

I went there for the re-opening night a few weeks ago on a Stag Do, it was quality. Back to the raving in the 90s. You'll easily get tickets outside if you change your mind.

We had a real problem trying to find a pub that would let away fans in last season, but we managed to find a restaurant round the corner from the Blaize that was letting away fans into the bar area. It's called Chester's Steakhouse, it's opposite the big Tesco store near the stadium. That's where we'll be heading on Saturday, although I will say that it's not an excellent bar - just the best we could find within walking distance from the ground that was accepting away fans.

Drank at The Bulls Head by Manchester Piccadilly last season. Decent enough boozer and near the station's taxi rank so easy enough to get to Old Trafford from there. Will probably head there again or find somewhere else in town.

I think I was in there for a couple of drinks. Convenient for Metro to OT, surprisingly quiet for a matchday. We then moved down the road to a pub called "Monroes" in honour of Marilyn Monroe. Thought it would be more up market and busier - Wed night it seems is The Over 80's Glee Club Karaoke Night. I was getting the glad eye from some of the old dears in there - feck me, I became a 55 yr old Toy Boy!!LMFAO.

To be fair they were all dressed up and having a great time - hats off to them all, hope I'm still as active as them!!

I'm led to believe it is also popular with The Gay Community, attracted by the Marilyn Monroe stuff, but guess the Blue Rinse Brigade were too much competition for them that night!!

They usually have Boondoggle or Old Thumper on tap in there too.

You went to what is one of the best cities in the UK for pubs, and ended up drinking in a restaurant? Not only that, you're choosing to go there again..

It was a bar, within a restaurant, but yeah I know what you're saying. Only problem is I travel to away games on a coach, so going into the centre of town isn't an option - have to find somewhere close to the stadium as we've only got limited time in the area. There were a fair few Saints fans in there last year though, and a decent atmosphere too.

We're going to be by Piccadilly, normally check the good beer guide ECT for decent ale house.

First time that we're going up and back in a day and need to be back for 1800 train. My manc nate reckons avoid metro after game and get overground or even walk. From memory its too far to walk, but has anyone used the overground , he reckons from the away end its a piece of ****.

Last year the queue for the metro after the game was about an hour - good luck making your connection!! Don't know if being an evening KO made any difference to normal.

Queues will be even worse after a Saturday 3pm kick off. Would need to leave the game early to make a 6.00pm train, or get very lucky with a taxi.

Just double checked the train tickets and its 18:15. Looks like a brisk walk whilst looking out for a taxi is the only way. Reckon I can walk it in about an hour, provided the lunchtime beer has worn off.

If we win start singing OWTS outside the ground and you might need to do a bit of sprinting which would get you back sooner as long as you stay ahead of the pack!!

If we win I don't really care if I miss the train.

My Manc mate reckons the overground by the away end is best and there's 2 trains that'll get me there on time. Weighing up whether to risk the queue as I might not get on the first two, or pegging it back on foot.

Back on subject, I quite like the look of the Bulls Head, does anyone know if my 14 year old will be allowed in?
