You guys have now convinced me that we are set up for a huge disappointment. ;)

Yep with you on that sentiment.

I'm leaving Eric & the @dubaisaints #globalsfc crew to watch this one while I go off to Scabby Dabby and letch at Rihanna. (She's my birthday present so it's allowed)

Will try and pop in to a nearby golf club and catch the 1st half slaughter before fighting my way past the kiddies to get up close....

I bet it'l be like the Liverpool game where we'l knick it like 1-0 or something

which I would more than take with the goal coming from either 1 of Lambert,

Lalanna or Lovren/Schneiderlin but we'l see!!!

I also see that RVP may be doubtful to play too as well so we'l see what happens!!!

I hope that those who are going have a good trip and enjoy it no matter what!!!

COYR!!! :D

I have awoken in a similarly positive mood today. Let it not be forgotten that we've managed draws up there even when we were complete turd. I'm going for 2 nil saints and yes I did have a drink last night!!!

A pivotal game for the modern day Saints. Win this and I think we can start to say with confidence that anything is possible this season, lose it and we're back to 'plucky mid-table Saints' status, in the eyes of the media at least.

Heart says win. Head says defeat. Gut says draw.

Can't see us getting anything today, think the luck will be with United, can see Rooney getting a couple and a Van Persie pen. Think we should start J Rod, need some pace up top as Rio was completely shown up against West Brom, he's well past it, Vidic has been unconvincing this season as well.

I would be over the moon with a draw today.

I am just looking at the fixtures and to be honest the next three - Fulham H, Stoke A and Hull H are the ones that for me will define what sort of season we will have.

The old Saints would screw those games up big time. What will MP's Saints do with them ?

That is my test, not today when even if we lose we are still above United with three games coming up to give us a chance of staying there for a while yet !

Van Persie is a possible non starter, well according to newspaper reports anyway. Probably just Moyes trying to mislead us, can't see what difference that would make anyway.

The positive media is worrying, isn't it? I don't know, so want the win, but in true experienced Saints fan style expecting the worst and the crushing disappointment. I'd certainly take the draw..

It was 3-2 last year and since Saints have a better defence while Manure are out of sorts, but wounded. So beware fellers. Less goals today but who can force the advantage? I reckon a gritty 1-1.

@mrdanwalker: Here is your pointless stat of the day: If only 2nd 1/2's counted Southampton would be top of the PL #saints @SouthamptonFC #StatCave

Why can't there be a first half league and a second half league?

(But wouldn't we be near the relegation zone on first half performances?)

It was 2-1. 3-2 at St Mary's.

Pretty much agree with that but getting any sort of result up there is a very tall order. The real test will be if they score early on and our defensive confidence gets sapped away. So much of this game is in the head these days that any sign that our present invincibility is under threat could be catastrophic. We have good players but not many excellent ones so much of what we are about is physiological self-belief.

The kind of game been dreaming of for years, saints sitting in a top spot and taking on one of the big boys to compete for position, and to see how far we've really come, could be a club defining match, can't wait.

I'll say it again - Hull, from Wikipedia. I'm unleashing my inner alpine.

2008/9:

Despite being one of the favourites for relegation, they began life in the Premier League in great form, beating Fulham 2–1 on the opening day in their first ever top flight fixture. With only one defeat in their opening nine games, Hull City found themselves (temporarily) joint top of the table, third on goal difference, following a 3–0 victory over West Bromwich Albion

Hull City went into the final game of the season in 17th place and above the drop zone.

I think we have better players, more money, better resources and a far better manager than Hull back then

will we finish top 4? no way

will we finish 17th. No chance

7th-12th I reckon

I actually think we will win. United are poor at the back and I can see us pressing them into errors. As someone said above if we concede early it might be very different, but avoid that and I can see this being a famous day.

Is this the first ever time we've been grouped in this company???

today promises to be just as exciting with Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Southampton, Manchester City and Manchester United all in action

Last league win at OT was 1988?

yeah.

I think we are a fantastic side now. Just cant see us winning today. Man u just dont lose 2 in a row in the league at home

FFS, so many tedious arseholes here who don't seem to get any enjoyment out of being a Saints fan. If results go our way, we can go top! Take that *****es! Enjoy the ride, it's happening baby! 2-0 Saints, Osvaldo, Wanyama.

You want me to name them? The people that I think appear to be not enjoying being a Saints fan? Would that make your weekend complete?

who appears not to be enjoying this, on this thread?

do you have to predict a saints win every week?

I think we are a great team. Just dont think we will win today? is that so outrageous?
