Midtable United v Saints Build Up Thread

Got to assume Shaw is unlikely play? Without reigniting the the whole Fox debate again, it will make things a lot more difficult for us. United love to attack down the flanks.

But didn't Fox play last year at OT? And weren't we the best team to play there?

But I agree, Shaw at his best and also Clyne at his best would do much to neutralise MU's threats down the wing.

I looked at going the the WP on Sat night, but thought Sundays drive home would be too much of a struggle! Plus after paying £50 for a ticket, I didn't really want to pay 35 to get in a club!! Enjoy.

WHP tickets sold out ages ago but I've got a mate who works there so he sorted us out, and I've got somewhere to crash so it's not going to break the bank. Potential for a blinder of a weekend.

Yeah it will be superb mate, I baulked at the price though! Tickets were still available when I looked about a month ago.

It's beautiful what Osvaldo did to Denmark at the weekend. One of these please, Dani!

don't often get that much time and space in the PL though. Still it's well executed. If the initial long control hits Agger's feet or legs it's another wasted ball.

Just that I thought I'd seen that he was not going to be involved with the England Under 21s tonight due to illness, so it's been on-going for a while, who knows.

I think that if you pull out of 1 match in an international group you pull out of all of them, so for the first match he might not have been apt and perhaps England U21s didn't want to keep him on or anywhere near the group for fear of spreading his illness. Hasn't stopped him training with Saints though. Getting the impression that Shaw is at the moment a very fragile young man who needs wrapping in cotton wool most of the time. It will probably pass off quickly enough as he gets older.

Any chance Boruc might just clatter Rooney tonight? Qualifying chances over and playing utd Saturday. If anyone would do it, Boruc would.

Yes please. Rooney off, Lambert on and show them how to do it! I wasn't sure about boruc when we first signed him, but by Jove I really rather like the chap now!

It wont happen but id drop Lambert for one of Cork/Davis/Jwp so we dominate the midfield. Pity we don't have anyone with raw pace, after watching England in the last 2 games, Townsend did really well i thought and its the only thing that we lack.

Should have taken him in the summer when we had a chance :(

The SWF experts got that one right again (LOL) "He's ****", "No thanks"

Boruc / K Davis

Clyne - Fonte - Lovren - Shaw

Schneiderlin - Wanyama

JWP - S Davis - Lallana

Osvaldo

Subs: Davis / Gazza, Chambers, Hooiveld, Cork, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Lambert

If we have to play KD then we will go for a far more defensive set up, why some might even get their wish to see the the 3 6s lined up together. I will make a bold prediction, if we have to play KD we will lose. I personally would place more faith in Toni Jimenez and he hasn't played for about 9 years.

Can only see this going 2 ways - we thump them, or they thump us. What with Rooney being on fire for England last night and United starting to get into their stride, I think we will be in for a very tricky game.

---------------BORUC----------------

CLYNE----FONTE----LOVREN----SHAW

-------WANYAMA---MORGAN---------

S.DAVIS------LAMBERT------LALLANA

--------------OSVALDO--------------

Subs: K.Davis, Chambers, Yoshida, JWP, Cork, Ramirez, JayRod

Jay's maybe a little unlucky to miss out on the Starting XI for this one after his good display from the bench against Swansea, but we need somebody who can provide fresh legs up front - starting Rickie, Dani and Jay would mean a lack of strikers on the bench (unless you put Guly in there).

I was lucky enough to be back home for the match last year at OT, and even though we lost, it didn't feel like it.

2000 Saints Fans completely outsung The Plastics, and the Players on the pitch did us proud.

Mental celebrations when we went 1 up early doors, even if it didn't last long it made the trip worthwhile!! Pity we couldn't make any of the other 20 odd goal attmpts count.

The weirdest thing for me was seeing stall holders near the ground selling 50/50 Man Utd / Saints scraves. WTF is that all about? Please please please do not act like a tourist and buy such a crappy piece of tat.

I guess it's understandable that Man U fans might want one as a momento of when one of The Top 4 teams came to town!!

It's not just Man Utd who sell them. The majority of games seem to have them sold at. I saw West Ham/Saints ones last year around the Boleyn.

Quite a surreal feeling about this game, there is no pressure on us as we are just little Southampton next in the Cannon Fodder line at Old Trafford. To Football pundits and Man U fans we are a nailed on 3 points so the boys just need to go up there and relax as there is nothing to lose.

However a Ron Davies'esk 4 goal haul from the strikers would be a bit nice............... About the right length of time has elapsed for a Hollywood remake of an old Classic.

Interesting to see the odds that Sky Bet are giving...

Man U - 8/15

Draw - 3/1

Saints - 11/2

they obviously haven't heard that Boruc might be out so if you're thinking of a wager on either the draw or a Utd win get down to the bookies before they realise that with KD in goal 3/1 on the draw is over generous.

You can get 12/1 on Pochettino for Manager of the Month. If we win I should think he would be in with a huge shout, so probably a much better bet.

Hope there's also an error in Shaw being ill, which physio room is still saying. Where do they get their information?

Shaw tweeted someone this week saying he was ok to play this Saturday. This is probably just a carry over from missing the Swansea game and not playing in the U21's.

Luke, just, tweetred this....

Luke Shaw‏@Luke_shaw36m

Glad to have got over my illness , looking forward to the game Saturday

Excellent. I think his playing is even more important than Lovren (though not as important as Boruc).
