my favourite saints player at the moment. Was delighted when we signed him and I think there was a good chance we would have been relegated without him.

Excellent goalkeeper who does the simple stuff brilliantly as well as making world class saves at vital moments. he's just as important as anyone in our defensive upturn

He has been absolutely superb this season. A fantastic bit of business signing him up for free!

He got better and better last season and now he's had a solid preseason he is looking fit, sharp and agile. It's his positioning for me which is excellent and shows what an experienced international keeper he is. He is still relatively young for a keeper too.

Niemi was a great keeper but think Boruc may have something a bit extra he seems very intimidating and commanding as well as being a real character, he just loves the Northam singing his name.

I know Celtic fans who'd have him back in a heartbeat, over Frazer Forster. (and FF is the best English keeper around at the moment).

Can anyone think of a better goalkeeper in the Premier League at present?

He's got is all - great shot-stopper, claims crosses, marshalls his defence, good distribution and his rushing out and closing down is insanely brilliant.

John Hartson was raving about him on MOTD2 last night - said he was world class. On current form you can't argue with that.

I'm his biggest fan but even I will admit that this isn't the case.

Absolutely WORLD CLASS.

So glad he signed for us and enjoys playing for the mighty Saints..

Different times....but as good as any GK Saints have had...

Top man.

Hope England manage to put a couple past him.:)

I'd put him third behind Shilts & Niemi. I don't think he has the agility of Niemi, but he does have an intimidating physical presence. What lets him down is his distribution, it's no better then KD's (something which is overlooked by the KD detractors).

He's not the best keeper in the league, nor is he matching Niemi in his prime yet, but he's in outstanding form and I'm so glad we've got him between the posts.

Kicking needs improvement though but it's a price we pay for everything else he's good at.

Odd that, given how good he is at other more difficult aspects of the game. You'd think that would be one of the easier things to improve on.

I don't think his kicking is that bad, it's just when he tries to play a pin point pass out to a full back who's stood directly on the byline it's a bit tricky for him.

Easily one of the best saints keepers I have seen live, I would say he isnt that far from Niemi's level of ability if not as good.

His distribution lets him down but his reactions, agility and ability to gather crosses is very good.

Hard not to love the man... His kicking was a bit dodgy yesterday but thats nit picking.

He seems to have an arrogance about him that I really like. I seem to remember the game against Arsenal last year when he made a few errors and he just laughed them off where as they may have played on another goalies mind.

The fact that hes clearly mental also helps...

I love that his reaction to a mistake like that is to smack himself round the chops about 10 times. Absolute header, like all the best keepers.

Breeds the confidence that spreads through the defence. In him, Lovren & Big Vic we have an extremely strong defensive spine.

Never seen a keeper so comfortable using both feet.

Although naturally right-footed he injured it at Celtic and in order to continue playing did a lot of work on his left. He's unflappable no matter which foot a pass is delivered to and that's undoubtedly an asset when you've got an opposition striker rushing towards you.

Made Garth Crooks's Team of the Week

How Good Is He?

Better than Antti Niemi?

He's better than Garth Crooks' choices usually are, but then so's Fox. So was Ryan Dickson for that matter. Though I'd take Crooks' choices over Stephen O'Halloran in terms of skill.

how come he didn't get the assist for J-Rod goal in my Fantasy Football Team?

Significant direction change caused by Chico's attempt at a clearing header before the ball came to Rodriguez.

He is a top top keeper, will be interesting to see how he gets on against England !

so will I. My generation is still haunted by the very mention of Tomaszewski in 1974 :scared:

Is Artur the player we can least afford to lose at present? If he's not there those world class saves don't get made (probably) and our new found defensive record goes to sh!t. Our D+DMs have done good, but even so those saves still needed to be made and I can't see Kelvin replicating how Boruc is playing this season. So a long term injury to AB is a frightening prospect.

Artur for me is up there with Niemi. He was outstanding yesterday, making two world class saves. I was delighted when we got him last year as I knew what a class keeper he is. Can't wait for the England - Poland game next week. Going to be some game. Mind you I hope Rickie comes out on top still :)

Did anyone else see the Lovren-Fonte reaction to the second goal?

I didn't, but apparently they hugged on the halfway line (my Mrs said "it was practically tongues").

Only slightly off topic, but I think the keeper and the 2 centre backs are a great part of the team.

And to think some on here wanted him thrown out of the club........

Wasn't the easiest of introductions was it? Plus I'm sure it wasn't just us who wanted that moment of his career out. Don't think Boruc was at his psychological best after a summer of inactivity and ignored by the transfer market.

Not yet IMHO, the reason being his distribution for a Prem keeper is terrible.

His assist for JayRod's goal was intended to go somewhere else then?

Apart from the fact that Niemi and Shilton played for Saints with a 20 year difference, it's hard to say that anyone was better than Shilts.......

However, Niemi was outstanding in his time with Saints, and you could have literally counted his " bad games in a season " ..on one hand.

I seem to remember quite a lot of media coverage when Boruc was first at Celtic, and I was more than pleased to see us sign him.

OK he was overweight, un-trained and had a bad start, but now we see that there is a top class goalie inside him, and he's already earned us 6-7 points this season.

Comparisons are odious (or so the saying goes) and I wouldn't want to try ...based on so short a time, but if he's still performing in 3-4 years time, then I'd say ..

...that I was lucky to have seen two goalies off that ilk in the same decade.

its the old football axiom, you build a team from the back.

With Shaw in, and the back line + Boruc ....I'm very pleased with the rearguard, we have many options in midfield (but maybe not a bad thing in case of injuries), all we need is to get the strikers scoring.

If a goalkeepers only weakness is his distribution with his feets.....well then I see no problem...

The key is he can be used in tight situations and can get the ball away with both feets, that´s actually not that common amongst goalkeepers.
