He could another Nick Holmes type player - solid, club player but maybe not much more than that. However an important part of the backbone of our team for years ahead.

He's already England Captain, don't think Holmes made it that far. JWP will only get better especially as he's not first pick on the team-sheet, still has that challenge to meet.

I think JWP has a lot of qualities, but the big question mark for me is what position will he settle on? He may never settle on a position and have a good career, but would he ever be a first choice starter because of it?

After nearly two seasons at Prem level and turning 20 in November, I can't see the predicted glittering career being fulfilled.

Why not? It may not happen, but if there's one thing we've learnt in our climb from League 1, it's that players do improve given time, experience and opportunity. Midfield is a difficult place to play, and he may have a slow to mature physique: he's certainly strengthened over the past year.

Also think about Lallana and how much he's come on lately! I don't know how people can right players off at 20. Some players develop earlier and later than others.

If we did lose Morgan this summer, I think JWP would be the best replacement giving him more games.

JWP has played horribly in that defensive mid roles.

If MS did leave we will be ok with Wanyama, Cork and Davis.

Whats up with JWP has he not had a transfer rumour about him yet, shake a leg lad, this is Southampton close season get a transfer rumour fast.

Amazing how many Saints fans underate him, he really is a class act.

Ward-Prowse was named third best player at the Toulan tournament and also won 'Goal Of The Tournament' for strike v Brazil.

Interesting, there were a few times today when he was caught in possession but otherwise played ok. That goal v Brazil was a bit special mind.

Can see a bid from spurs in the coming months

I cant see it. MP didnt get the best from James last season and judging by the number of appearences also didnt rate him.

At the age of 19 he had Saints 5th highest number of appearances last season.

He played the full 90 minutes in just 9 league games last season

So what? He's 19 ffs, he was on the pitch for 34 games last season in a side that came 8th in the Premier League. Few other 19 year olds get remotely close to the Premier League gam time JWP has had, at other clubs most players his age are in the under 21's or out on loan in the Football League.

As he is just beginning his career it sound quite good to me, especially if you consider the players he was competing with for a place.

Its relative as tells the more accurate story. 9 full 90 minute games is not a massive amount.

Your including games like Hull where he played just one minute, palace away one minute, sunderland away 3 minutes, WBA home just 6 minutes etc etc etc

But Spurs have great midfielders too... So if MP used JWP sparingly for us, why would he want him at Spurs?

Great player with huge potential

Was lucky enough to meet him at the PFA awards a few weeks ago....couldn't meet a nicer bloke...very articulate and intelligent, happy to chat for ages ....definitely a big star for the future

Thought how well he's looking in yesterday's training photos. He's filling out, looks stronger and for sure he's going to be a real top player. No Saints players makes me feel prouder than Prowsie and Jack Cork.

At the beginning of last season, I looked at him and Shaw, and thought that JPW would be the better of the two. However, during the season Shaw really pushed on and JWP didn't match him. Hopefully he will blossom this season and become a great.

This might have been because JWP faced stronger competition for a place in the starting XI, though agree that Shaw certainly looked the better of the two at season's end.

JWP has struggled as the seasons have gone on, I've noticed. Always starts pre-season well and the first few months is pretty much undroppable - he then tails off, loses confidence and becomes a bit part player for the rest of the season. A flaw in his make-up that's for sure, whether it's down to fitness....or confidence, who knows - but what I'm sure about is that there is a damn fine player there, easily a future England international if he nails an entire season.

Undoubtedly given the accolades and exposure he's currently getting with the youth teams and senior Saints squad.

Agreed Prowsey is going to be a top player

Big season for him this year.

I hope it comes off, not just for us (actually, that should be, not just for him). His attitude, from an interview last season, is one that is spot on and dedicated to being the best he can be. It can't be easy passing up a lot of those temptations that other teenagers enjoy.

As said on a previous thread re JWP ,a key factor for his development this season , (as for our season ahead generally) will be the squad available at the start of the season.

I can't see JWP being a first choice CM ahead of MS or Cork , with VW playing a more defensive role. This assumes Koeman does not bring in any other Dutch midfielders.

Perhaps the question for the club is if they are prepared to take a chance to release Cork to enable JWP to progress further. Personally I'd not take the risk at this stage. ( Not belittling JWP , but Cork is an important part of our MF in my view).
