If anyone wants the (Spanish) words from the horses mouth. The Osvaldo interview which is cited is here

Thanks for that. Just as i thought. typical journo second hand turning around innocent answers to questions ****e. Hes sitting there happy on the sofa with his missus and saying straightforward stuff noone would say was out of order but somehow they manage to get a sensationalist story out of it. that's it. I'm not buying the mirror anymore. ( i never ever did of course but this settles it!) oops tell a lie i read the sports pages in the barbers few weeks back,. wont do that again.

I'd play Osvaldo because he's got a better goal scoring record in the past. As it is they're both largely ineffective

As I said earlier, thought it was extremely telling that we were massively on the back foot as soon as Osvaldo picked up his knock at the start of the second half. Like Rickie he is more then just a goalscorer, his tracking back and link up play was superb.

Sounds to me like my suspicions were correct and the quotes were false.

Thats why politicians, sports people etc rarely say anything interesting anymore - they need to be chaperoned by their own press staff to ensure the papers don't get a chance to put an 'angle' on anything.

We were on the back foot most of the game, he's not more then just a goalscorer because he's not a goalscorer atm.

Not prolific yet, no. His goal against Palace was well taken though and he was fingertips away from getting one at Anfield, he is posing a definite threat.

After we took the lead Swansea took the game to us as you would expect from them. We attacked with conviction and generated several chances of our own before that and the interplay between Lallana, Lambert and Osvaldo were utterly key to it. Could, indeed perhaps should have been 2 or even three up by that point. Osvaldo's mobility, strength, close control, intelligence and team ethic have been extremely heartening, he is a class act.

Nothing resembling prolific, he hasn't even looked like scoring. It clearly wasn't utterly key to our attack, we scored one in 70mins when Osvaldo was on and 2 in the remaining 20 without him, even though one was disallowed.

Except of course when he did.

They say football is a game of opinions. I couldn't disagree more.

this is another of those ...... " wouldn't you like to play for your boyhood favourites **Manchester United one day " ...type dumb-journo' questions.

trying to make a story up where none exists... As for the .." tough physical game in the Prem" question .....what do you expect?..its the Prem.

Gaston Ramirez had the same type of darn-fool question and gave the same type of response, and suddenly they said ....he wanted back to Italy.

** depending on the player who is the interviewee......read Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool etc, etc )

Definitely got all the attributes to be a great striker for us, just seems to be trying a little too hard at the moment, and choosing the wrong option all the time when he works his way into good positions, its very early days, do you see him forming an understanding with lambert or another option? or is he better on his own upfront?

the answer to any of those " thoughts / questions " is .....let's wait until we see him performing against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man.Utd. IMHO far too early to give any opinion.

Some players show up better against good teams, where there is skill and flowing play, and not a defensive wall conceding free-kicks every other minute.

I'd like to see him up against some class defenders, and top goalkeepers before making judgements.

We have obviously got arsene and his lover John Cross worried as we have become the target of their PR machine.

Dani just looks class, his close control, his cleverness, pace and stamina etc it's hard for the other guys to read him, in terms of temperament he has a bit of Zlatan about him, desperately wants to win and gets ****ed off if we don't.

I think for a first time ever every purchase we have made this summer seems to be coming off.

I would love to see either a proper trequartisa behind him as the lone striker or him and Jrod up front as their pace and skills could cause anyone problems.

He's been complete crap tbh, he's been no improvement on Rodriguez.

I wouldn't of known what a great player he was if i hadn't read about it on here. I've only seen him on tv so I'm probably missing out on his class movement or whatever it is.

Edit: I'm not being sarcasms, I genuine accept testimony of people at game that he is great player. I am glad to hear bout it!

 yeah is prob true!

i've watched some streams and I've mostly seen him get ball, run into trouble, lose ball. We already had Rodriguez to do that!

I totally accept I'm prob missing something tho, I haven't been watching him particular carefully or anything.

He has done that a few times but usually when not much else on. Some of his quick link up play and movement when he is properly supported is very good.

The other thing he provides is the desire to get the ball out of his feet as quick as possible and have a shot. As Pochettino says, the lad can create and score his own chances.

So how many have written him off already?

Don't feel like going back through the posts, but no doubt some of out resident "experts" should no doubt already have started the writing off process???

Probably the same people that wrote off Boruc...

I thought he was still written off by some ;)

Wasn't he struggling to stay in the job before the Liverpool game ;-) or was that just on here?

FWIW I think he looks decent. Link up around the top of the box looks good and I'm sure he'll score a decent amount this season. Looks well set to get one of those super goals we saw from Roma just needs a good bounce once like JRod on Sunday.

you can clearly see he's a level or two above everyone else in the squad by his touch, movement and anticipation of what he expects others to do around him. i think it's a case of him adapting & getting used to playing with people perhaps not up to his level just yet (that's not to say the other players can't get there), since he was used to the level above at roma.

I see a lack of numbers here. How many goals do you realistically expect a 15m striker to score in a season? 10? 15? 20? How many assists?

I think once he settles in, and I'd say let's give him until Xmas, that a return of 10 goals and 6 or 7 assists would be good. Next season I would expect more, 15 or so.

Your thoughts?

What should not be overlooked is that he had no pre-season with Saints and is still trying to catch-up with the style of play and how to link with Ricky and Adam. It takes time to become a well oiled machine. Judge him after Christmas. He certainly has a physical presence that intimidates CBs and that's good because it relieves some of the pressure on Ricky who's been marked by two people ever since his England call-up. Chances will come as these two work out their routines and it could be very exciting.

Osvaldo is on a different level to the other players (like Ramirez) our players don't spot his runs or world class passes.

Can't wait to see ossie and GR together

Ooowww a little stars in your eyes dreaming there I think....

GRs pass completion rate against Bristol City was about 30% at best

and most certainly not 'world class'....

Whilst he may do the odd great thing it's no good to the team if we are not tight with him playing. If there one thing we have learnt this year over last it is that we need ball retention and ball winning to defend well and our existing first team squad are better than he is at this.

Yes GR is flair but mostly little enough substance and reliability. It like say earning a thousand pounds in one day - amazing ......... And then nothing for two months - it doesn't pay the bills at the end of the day ........

To me he doesn't look happy when forced wide. He doesn't try to beat the man on the outside or look like he is putting in much effort to cross more often looking just to get a corner. An area in which ricky excels at. Where he comes alive is with the ball at his feet in shooting distane where he can create a chance for himself.

No, Jordan Rhodes has scored 9 in 10 already and would score more in the Prem then Osvaldo will.

that's just ridiculous. Osvaldo was Roma's top scorer last season, he's also Italy's no.9. Jordan Rhodes is a good striker in a mid-table Championship side. Get real. Rhodes wouldn't get in our squad.

Oh yes someone who is playing for Italy and was Romas top scorer last year, isn't as good as someone playing in the championship....right....?!

Not even sure Rhodes is any better than JRod?!?
