chocco boxo Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 3 ex Saints as it stands at the moment Dyer seems to have stolen a march on the other two in terms of overall performance , fitness , form and medals. In some ways Chamberlain would have benefited staying here a bit longer! Hopefully Dyer will have an off day Sunday. What price is Dyer worth now?
JackanorySFC Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Eh? Dyer is nowhere near Walcott's level This. Walcott a far far better player than the other 2 ever will be. *Awaits a football forum moron to say Walcott has no footballing brain*
Badger Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Dyer is not in the same bracket as Walcott. OxC in my view had more potential than the other two but whether that is fulfilled remains to be seen. Any of them though would be a welcome addition back at Saints, and strange as the OP pointed out the only one to win a medal has been Dyer albeit the League Cup.
Grey Crab Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Simon Gillett is better than all 3. Put together.
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Simon Gillett is better than all 3. Put together. Not in the same league as Lloyd James. I saw him playing for Leyton Orient on the tele the other day. What a wasted talent.
Barry the Badger Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 I love it when people say Walcott hasn't improved since he left Saints. Bloke I play football with is adamant.
sotonswan Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Dyer may have a League Cup winners medal, but he did rather disgrace himself on the day with his teenage strop over taking a penalty to get his hat-trick. No doubt he couldn't believe he'd actually scored two goals. Nobody else could either. This was against Bradford though. He was substituted on 77 minutes having completely lost his mind trying to single-handedly score his third :/ He's much the player he ever was at Southampton, but much better at quick passing at close quarters. He's not supposed to go bombing off on his own and get out of his depth in the oppositions corner. He works closely with the full back who will overlap him. He has exceptionally good understanding with Angel Rangel. These two will terrorise most defences and get up there REALLY quickly. If he starts on Sunday he'll likely have Tiendali behind him, who is still learning (slowly) how to play this way. Hence Nathan's progress will be stop-start, getting swamped all alone and losing the ball. The same old Nathan you remember. He doesn't score enough goals to be considered a great winger, but he has his uses. I like him. Behind Walcott for me. OC still doesn't have enough flying hours to really rate for me.
SNSUN Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Dave McGoldrick is showing us we're all judgemental *****s at Ipswich :-D Blackstock is a far better keeper than Best will ever be... On a serious note, it's a shame how Drew Surman has disappeared off the radar. He was doing quite well for Norwich and then fell out of favour with injuries. Hopefully he can resurrect his career at Bournemouth. As for the OP 3, of course Walcott is the best of all of them. I still think Ox-C has what it takes to be a top footballer though, but currently being at Arsenal is stunting his development. At one hand he's training with top midfielders like Ozil, on the other hand he needs proper game time. A loan, perhaps?
VectisSaint Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Dyer is not in the same bracket as Walcott. OxC in my view had more potential than the other two but whether that is fulfilled remains to be seen. Any of them though would be a welcome addition back at Saints, and strange as the OP pointed out the only one to win a medal has been Dyer albeit the League Cup. How many caps has Dyer got? Apparently coming from Trowbridge qualifies him for Jamaica :-) He must also soon qualify for Wales by residence, as it seems he is not even in the reckoning for England. Just shows what happens when you play for an unfashionable club. Think Ox will prove to be a lot better than either of the other, remember he is 6 years younger than Dyer and Walcott.
SaintBobby Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Surprised Chamberlain hasn't developed as rapidly as I thought. He seemed to burst into the England team before fading away a bit.
BadgerBadger Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 I'm still of the opinion that if Walcott and Ox had stayed at Saints for longer they would be better players than they are now
Saint Garrett Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Surprised Chamberlain hasn't developed as rapidly as I thought. He seemed to burst into the England team before fading away a bit. Been unlucky with injuries.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 I said at the time the we had done a great deal on chamberlain and said he wouldn't do much for 2-3 years
Toadhall Saint Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 I love it when people say Walcott hasn't improved since he left Saints. Bloke I play football with is adamant. What position?

VectisSaint Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 He is Adamant, not Adam Ant Too many Badgers on here, quoted the wrong one, oops.
Scudamore Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 Chamberlain will be the stand out player of the three as far as I'm concerned. It's a simple matter of composure.
Kingsland Red Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 19 posts and no mention of Lloyd James !!!
Whitey Grandad Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 19 posts and no mention of Lloyd James !!! Er, cough cough, post #6?
eelpie Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 I'm still of the opinion that if Walcott and Ox had stayed at Saints for longer they would be better players than they are now That interestingly was also the opinion of a couple of Arsenal fans I was chatting to at a bus stop near Waterloo last year.
Ohio Saint Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 That interestingly was also the opinion of a couple of Arsenal fans I was chatting to at a bus stop near Waterloo last year. They both needed the greater responsibility they had while playing for Saints rather than bench warming or playing more minor roles for Arsenal. No brainer really.
SaintSteve Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 This. Walcott a far far better player than the other 2 ever will be. *Awaits a football forum moron to say Walcott has no footballing brain* If you had a brain, you would understand Walcott's lack of one.. he has pace to burn but that does not make him a better player than Dyer or OxC
anothersaintinsouthsea Posted 5 October, 2013 Posted 5 October, 2013 If you had a brain, you would understand Walcott's lack of one.. he has pace to burn but that does not make him a better player than Dyer or OxC Walcott was not far off Bale last season in terms of goals + assists. Far superior to Dyer and much much better than people like you give him credit for.
Batman Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 If you had a brain, you would understand Walcott's lack of one.. he has pace to burn but that does not make him a better player than Dyer or OxC How can someone with no brain score and assist so many last season?
Turkish Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 This. Walcott a far far better player than the other 2 ever will be. *Awaits a football forum moron to say Walcott has no footballing brain* Remember in league one when a lot of people on here insisted Walcott was nothing more than a sprinter and Chamberlain was already a far better player and had a far superior football brain, based on seeing him play for a season against the might Dagenham and Redbridge and Oldhams of this world. totally ignoring the fact Walcott had been a regular for a champions league side, scored a hatrick for England, scared the life out of Barcelona and so on,. No we were told, Chamberlain is a better player and will go on to be a world beater, just look how he ran rings round Oldhams Gary Borrowdale!!

Batman Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 Walcott can be frustrating. That is as much to do with the hype than anything else. Is he world class? No Is he a very good top end prem player. Hell, yes
SaintSteve Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 If you had a brain you would understand how stupid that comment was. In your opinion Walcott is a great player.. in my opinion he is overrated.. simple

CB Fry Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 In your opinion Walcott is a great player.. in my opinion he is overrated.. simple Err...Turkish never said he was a"a great player". And your opinion was that Dyer was better, that is what is being discussed. Nice attempt at a sidestep though.
paulwantsapint Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 Nath n Dyer terrorised damn fox today & still ended up on the lossing side
Dark Munster Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 Fox made Nathan Dire look like Ronaldo today. Quite an achievement.
Bearsy Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 Fox made Nathan Dire look like Ronaldo today. Quite an achievement. Erm some mistake? Fox wasn't marking Dyer. Fox was watching the space between the 6 yard box and two feet to the left of the 6 yard box. Must of been someone else's job.

Saint_clark Posted 6 October, 2013 Posted 6 October, 2013 How can someone with no brain score and assist so many last season? Indeed. He's scored a hattrick for England in a competitive game as well, something not a lot of people have done. My biggest disappointment is the fact he has been shoved out on the wing. He IS a striker, not that the rest of the country would know it, and if he is played on the wing his entire career he will never fulfill the potential he showed as a school boy for us.
Appy Posted 7 October, 2013 Posted 7 October, 2013 Remember in league one when a lot of people on here insisted Walcott was nothing more than a sprinter and Chamberlain was already a far better player and had a far superior football brain, based on seeing him play for a season against the might Dagenham and Redbridge and Oldhams of this world. totally ignoring the fact Walcott had been a regular for a champions league side, scored a hatrick for England, scared the life out of Barcelona and so on,. BlakeySFC Posted 7 October, 2013 Posted 7 October, 2013 For me: Walcott > Dyer > AOC AOC has only gone backwards at Arsenal in my opinion.
