Pip87 Posted 9 December, 2008 Share Posted 9 December, 2008 I have a really bad cold. I'm looking for suggestions to get me through it. So far i've tried lemsip daytime tablets, soother sweets, soup, turning the bathroom into a steam room, blowing my nose as much as possible (the more i blow it the more snot seems to develop?). Anyway - what works/helps for anyone that I could try?

Scudamore Posted 9 December, 2008 Share Posted 9 December, 2008 Smoking jacket, cravat, whiskey and cigar. Then retire to the smoking room... No wait you can't do that...you're a woman...
bridge too far Posted 9 December, 2008 Share Posted 9 December, 2008 Pip, you're doing all the right things. A cold is a virus and has to run its course. All you can do is manage the discomfort and patiently wait....... There are no cures. But a hot whisky and lemon does help (or a few )

Scudamore Posted 9 December, 2008 Share Posted 9 December, 2008 Pip - look! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/7771893.stm Symptoms of a runny nose' date=' cough and sneezing [b']were also helped by the drink served at room temperature[/b] and researchers admit there was probably a psychological effect, based on the old tale, from the taste, smell and temperature of the hot drink. So in short drinking is the way forward

Pip87 Posted 9 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 9 December, 2008 Thanks for the article. Hot drinks galore in the Pip household for the next few days then (mostly with whiskey, lemon and honey during the evenings ) I can't believe the amount of snot. Getting through so much tissue. I've been cheap and nicked loo roll from the uni... I'm paying for it now and have to go and buy some moisturiser for my poor red nose. I must look like that reindeer...?? Pip87 Posted 10 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 10 December, 2008 I found this, this morning: http://newsforums.bbc.co.uk/nol/thread.jspa?forumID=5776&edition=1&ttl=20081210101106 Some of it useful, some of it amusing - especially the ones about putting vicks vapour rub on your feet, drinking 10pints of cider a day and drinking a cup of liquid nitrogen.
