Sour Mash Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 Featuring on the bench for the 1st team for the first time suggests he is closer to the first team than he was previously, does it not? "Getting closer to the first team" is all I asserted. As usual people on this forum taking my comments either out of context and/or twisting them. Luckily I've now had Turkish on ignore for many months now, which eases the problem. So do you think it's likely that Targett will be used if Fox leaves or not?
Matthew Le God Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 So do you think it's likely that Targett will be used if Fox leaves or not? I don't, and I didn't say that. I agreed if Shaw were to be injured/suspended then it would be Clyne at left back and Chambers at right back. All I said is that Targett is closer to the first team than he was previously. He has had more time training with the first team, Pochettino has seen more of him in training and decided him worthy of a place on the bench for the first team. I did not say it is likely he'll be used in the coming months if Fox leaves.

So if it's not likely he'll be used if Fox leaves it's not really relevant to the conversation on who would be cover for Shaw.
hypochondriac Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 He sat on the bench for what was basically the reserves, and didn't even warrant a five-minute run around against a Bristol City side without a win in a proper game all season. He's at best third choice left-back (arguably 5th or 6th behind Clyne, Yoshida and even Hooiveld), which is, er, absolutely no different from last season. Edit: and nobody gives a **** who you've got on ignore You tell him Steve
hypochondriac Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 So if it's not likely he'll be used if Fox leaves it's not really relevant to the conversation on who would be cover for Shaw. Exactly.

Again, all I said was he was "closer to the first team". You are looking to twist my words for ****s and giggles.
Turkish Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 (edited) Again, all I said was he was "closer to the first team". You are looking to twist my words for ****s and giggles. He isn't though. Edited 1 October, 2013 by Turkish

Matthew Le God Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 No, we're trying to understand what your point is in relation to the discussion and are currently unable to. - In my original post, I agreed that should Shaw get injured, Chambers right back/Clyne left back would be the solution - I stated Targett is closer to the first team than he was previously. He has now trained more with the first team and Pochettino has seen more of him. - If Fox were to go to Bolton in the coming days, it has to be as an emergency loan and not a season long loan. Chambers/Shaw/Clyne should be enough for full backs for the next 3 months and if need we also can shoe horn in Cork or Yoshida, with Targett being an extra option as a specialist left back. - Targett has recently changed his allegiance from Scotland to England with his recent callup to England under 19's so is at least being considered at a national level in his age group.

But you said further up the page that you didn't think Targett would be used if Fox leaves, so what relevance does Targett have to the discussion?
SNSUN Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 53.3.10 Emergency Loans and Youth Loans may contain a break clause but only where that break clause is exercisable after the expiry of the initial 28 day period of the loan. Just reading about recalls - I take it this means he can be recalled after a month if necessary? Nowt to worry about then :-)
hypochondriac Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 Again, all I said was he was "closer to the first team". You are looking to twist my words for ****s and giggles. What relevance does that have to the Danny Fox situation if it is very unlikely he will play?
LostBoys Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 I wish him well he was found out regularly Man City for example but cannot be faulted for effort Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free
captainchris Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 I also see nothing to celebrate here. Nothing to do really with the player himself. Yep. Little news snippets like this remind us that we are still small-time in the scheme of English Premier League football.... We cant even hold on to a back-up LB of the dubious quality of Danny Fox, whether it is the attraction of staying for him or our ability to pay his wages. Eh ..... Whether this is true or not do you seriously think this is anything to with us being unable to hold on to him in favour of Bolton Wanderers!!! I can assure you that if he moves it will be our decision not anyone else's .... Plus he's very lucky indeed to be with us in the first place. Because to be totally honest he really isn't that good.
westofshannonsaint Posted 1 October, 2013 Posted 1 October, 2013 I really don't see what everyone is getting so worked up about (I've seen no bile)... I think we all know/hope that Danny's Saints career is coming to an end. I'm reluctant to say he is not good enough (thanks for your service), but right now he is 3rd choice LB & fighting for a place on the bench. Going out on loan (with a recall option) is idea for both the player and club. The player might find a new club & he will be match fit if a recall is needed. If we miss him for a week or two he might even return a hero.

The Clyne LB / Chambers RB is an option for matchdays and means we don't have to have two dedicated full backs on the bench in case of injury. That said, if Shaw were to miss a game through injury/suspension then I have little doubt Fox would be MP's choice of replacement, and not Chambers. Clyne at LB is nothing but a temporary compromise IMO. Edited 2 October, 2013 by The Kraken
