Danny Fox to Bolton on loan

I'd prefer Clyne at let back and Chambers at right back rather than Fox playing. Plus Matthew Targett is getting closer to the first team.

does Targett actually train with the first team though ? I know he could be drafted in at any time but I don't see him as a regular replacement for the immediate future. Perhaps Yoshida is going to play left-back again if the need arises:scared::scared:

Don't really get the celebration, or bile aimed at Danny Fox.

Probably isn't a Prem player, but don't think he is as bad as people make him out to be.

Certainly hasn't done anything to deserve such disdain imo.

No one deserves distain really, I think all our players try.

Fox is however a bit of a liability IMO as he consistently fails to do the basics right at the top level.

Exactly that. Served us very well in the Championship. Put in a decent performance against Bristol City the other night.

Also suspect MLG's assertion that Matt Targett is in any way close to the first team picture is rather wide of the mark.

Firstly, I've yet to see anything from him in the handful of U21 games that have been available on the various club TV channels that suggests he's anywhere near ready for that step up, and secondly he's just tweeted that he's having an X-ray on his foot this afternoon. I guess that could rule him out of any level of football for a while, depending on what it shows.

Clyne, with Chambers at RB.

Not ideal.

I also see nothing to celebrate here. Nothing to do really with the player himself.

Yep. Little news snippets like this remind us that we are still small-time in the scheme of English Premier League football....

We cant even hold on to a back-up LB of the dubious quality of Danny Fox, whether it is the attraction of staying for him or our ability to pay his wages.

Given that when in 2012 MLGs explained that him expecting the ground extension to be announced "relatively soon" could be any time in the next few years, i'd imagine MLGs assertion that Targett is "getting closer to the first team" means that he is now only several years away from breaking into it.

I do hope that he does go on loan, as much as for his own career as our own interests. He is no longer in our first team plans and in his late twenties will be approaching/enduring his peak level of performance.

It's clear he isn't good enough to be in our team and has fallen behind players who are better then him despite being out of position or significantly less experienced which can only be negative to his reputation. He needs to be playing week in week out right now to be sure that his career will be prolonged to it's maximum... as with Billy Sharp it's in the best interests of both parties to part ways, surely.

If he goes (and it seems from the responses to the original rumour that its not as clear cut as first thought) then I'd hope we have a decent alternative first. Clyne at LB and Chambers at RB massively reduces our wide attacking threat from full back, and therefore as a team (given we're told time and again that "we don't play with wingers"). So IMO its of utmost importance to ensure that we have a decent option to replace an 18 year old who is still likely to miss a few games from knocks and injuries.

Fox is poor at this level, but he's currently the best reserve LB option we have by some distance, in that the balance of the overall team is maintained in other areas. Switching it round for Clyne at LB is a massive compromise all round.

A compromise, yes, but a better solution then playing Fox. I take no joy in holding that hardline view, but really he is a liability. I firmly believe that we should have recruited someone experienced who is approaching the twighlight of his career who would have been willing to play backup to Shaw while we try and let Targett develop. (There was someone who I felt was obviously suited.... no, lets not go there again.)

Agree with this. Clyne at left back significantly diminishes our attacking threat. Its a makeshift solution in an emergency. I personally don't like full backs playing on the opposite side. Skilled as he is Clyne's no Lahm. Targett's untested and if he's not ready I question why Fox is going if indeed he is going.

This old rumour been going about since pre-season.

Fox is good enough to cover at left back, even if I don't rate him as Premier League quality, he's far from terrible as cover. Sending him on an emergency loan does mean we can recall him if necessary too. Other than that we have options, either to put Clyne there, or Yoshida, or the left footed Jos, or even Cork who seems fairly versatile.

Is Targett ready? I haven't seen him play to know...

Featuring on the bench for the 1st team for the first time suggests he is closer to the first team than he was previously, does it not? "Getting closer to the first team" is all I asserted.

As usual people on this forum taking my comments either out of context and/or twisting them. Luckily I've now had Turkish on ignore for many months now, which eases the problem.

He sat on the bench for what was basically the reserves, and didn't even warrant a five-minute run around against a Bristol City side without a win in a proper game all season.

He's at best third choice left-back (arguably 5th or 6th behind Clyne, Yoshida and even Hooiveld), which is, er, absolutely no different from last season.

Edit: and nobody gives a **** who you've got on ignore
