Our matchday programmes ...

I'm bored with the Sunderland match and was browsing the Palace forum, saw this; http://www.holmesdale.net/page.php?id=106&tid=137934

I haven't bought a programme for a while, but thought this was amusing - is it really that bad now? Is it really A4 as well? That does seem weird, but I've no idea if that's normal anywhere else now.

I have bought a programme from probably every Saints game I have been to in person home and away since 1978, this season I have just bought the first home one and quickly established that the size, like has been said already, is totally impractical to tuck away in a pocket, the rain at West Ham just made the decision easier, yesterday I looked then just thought of the faffing about it would create and walked on.

If I was sitting in the Itchen soft seats I am sure it looks very nice on the tables, shame really that someone decided to be clever throw a decades old universally accepted size in the bin to turn it into a Cup Final size magazine.

Bought one for the Bristol game and noticed the same picture appeared twice in the same programme taking up half a page each. Very poor.

Thought maybe it had been cut down in size for the cup game as not as many pages but apparently they are all like that. Not really good value for money but no doubt great for the kids to collect and that is the market they are targeting.

I have always bought a programme ... almost out of habit. Used to be useful to see who the opposition players are on the back cover (with my eyesight can read the shirt numbers but not the names) and to browse through the contents at half time. This season though no more. Ridiculous size and the teams on the inside also irritating. Now use twitter for team news. Sales must be down.

Its not A4, about same width but a bit shorter than A4. I really don't like it, far too big, doesn't fit in pockets, will be ruined when it rains and gets wet. I suspect it is cheaper to print due to the smaller number of pages than before.

Which is why it is a waste of time buying them. What are you supposed to do with the damn things in conditions like those for the Sunderland match? Bad enough finding somewhere to keep them pristine even on a fine day. Sorry Nicola you're going to miss £54 from my pocket this season. I bought the first one so all the problems are real.

Should have made them smaller not larger - A5 or A6 is a nice size. Crystal Palace was the first game I haven't bought one for years

Er, I really like the new format. Photos look great and can read decent amount if text on one page.

In row V of the Northam and keeping it dry is easy, just behind my seat that I don't use.

Teams inside cos I guess the covers are printed way in advance of the inner pages.

Change eh? Some if the most conservative people on the planet in this forum :)

Sales will be the true test of popularity, which I believe will be well down on last year , ... though I don't suppose we will be privy to that info.

Football must be one of the very few businesses where they must do no market research and tell you what is best for you.

And look how badly it's gone! Cortese hasn't for much wrong has he! Maybe he knows what we want better than we do!

We do work for Cedar and I had a meeting with them a couple of weeks ago although they do a bit of work for the club the programme is still printed by Bishops.

wasn't it the skate marketing bloke that took the contract off them and gave it Bishops?

I got told Cedar wrote off some debt to help the club out when we were heading into/in admin. Nice way to repay them for loyalty if true.
