Don't normally comment on referees but he did well and deserves a mention.

He got the pivotal call correct, had he not we were staring down the barrel of a penalty against us and playing the remaining 70 minutes with 10 men. On the stream at full speed I genuinely thought penalty!

Chamakh should have jumped over King Artur and slotted the ball into the empty net, instead he was on the way down before contact was made with the keeper - in all probability there were only 2 people in the ground ( or watching the stream ) who knew it wasn't a pen at first sight, one was the striker and the other was the ref.

Extraordinary decision to look for the penalty when you have rounded the keeper!

Just shows the level of cheat he is, that he was thinking of getting the extra man advantage as well as the pen.

I cannot believe anyone can make that sort of instantaneous decision, personally I just think he realised he'd got too heavy a touch on the ball and tried to cover his bases.

What amazed me was he gave Steven Davis a yellow for a mere shirt pull on the half way line early on.

then a couple of Palarse players just wiped out a Saints player without receiving a word in their ear: the only other thing could be he gave the ref a good bit of Norn Iron verbal for giving such a soft foul.

I was thinking about Chamakh. From where I was sat, above the half way line and almost in the clouds, it looked like a penalty but that was because I was so far away. IF a penalty had been given, then surely AB would also have been sent off, and that was my initial fear, so surely the same fate should have befallen Chamakh. I thought Atkinson lost control for a few minutes after this, but generally he was fine. Loved his little lecture to Chamakh and 2 other Palace players when they started arguing amongst themselves.

Davis got booked because if he hadn't pulled the Palace player's shirt he would have been clean in on goal. Davis "took one for the team" and did deserve his booking.

Disagree - I had a fairly good view of it and you could see that he saw Boruc's arm coming out and deciding to throw himself down rather than jump over it and score. I said straight away; "dive". Happy to stand corrected on MoTD soon, but definitely a dive, even on first viewing.

I thought we 'always get sh*t refs'?

We do. But every now and again we get one that is less s h i t than the others so that then we know how s h i t the others are.

Same. Had a good view, clear dive. He almost seemed to move sideways, just so he could fall over the keeper's arms.

To be fair, even if the ref had given a penalty, he probably shouldn't have sent Boruc off, as Chamakh was going away from the goal. Denial of goalscoring opportunity for sure, but only a red card if he's going towards the goal. That said, most pundits (and some refs!) seem oblivious to that part of the rule, so who knows!

Quite so.

booking a midielder for a rough tackle is one thing, but penalties can be " game-changers" and having seen the TV replay several times ...I think the ref. got it absolutely right.

Nice to praise a ref. instead of slagging them off every week.

Just hope we don't get Howard Webb too often.

From where we sit in Block9 of the Itchen we all thought it was a dive as he started to fall just before Artur slid down to take the ball. Also, we were in a brilliant position to see Rickies free kick leave his boot and sail in just after Dani hit his goal from just outside the box.Our only reservations were against the lino on our side.Sixty yards away and makes error after error on throws.
