Having seen sunderlands next 6 with no manager and bottom of the league it doesn't look great. However saints are 7th and although it's early our next 6 give us a great chance to be in the top 4/5 at the mid November stage, except it doesn't go to plan like that with saints.

Palace h

Swansea h

Utd a

Fulham h

Stoke a

Hull h

If we figure out a way to break down defensive teams what an opportunity this is. How many points could we have after 11 games and where do u think we will be before a run of tough fixtures after these?

Few people would deny that Saturday's performance at Anfield was something special and that (on past form) it only happens once every decade, but the real proof of our intent to finish top six

will be results from the games above.

If we can repeat the Liverpool form...is there a chance of taking points v. M.U?....(questionable perhaps), but with the exception Swansea most of the other games are against teams currently low down in the table and although 18 points seems like fantasy football results, we ought to get at least 12 points from the above - if we are to be seriously talking about " success" and possible Euro football.

I'd be happy enough with 10 points from that, but we've been here before with a nice run of fixtures, and failed to capitalise. This is why we aren't close to being a top 6 side yet. More likely outcome will be a disappointing 6-7 points. Followed by a few 'MP out' threads. We're still very much a work in progress though, got to keep working towards a top half finish

DRAW - Palace h

LOSE - Swansea h

LOSE - Utd a

WIN - Fulham h

DRAW Stoke a

WIN - Hull h

8pts which means we slightly drop our points per game (ppg) average from the first 5 games (1.6) to 1.33 which isn't so bad in the Prem IMO. In fact 1.3 ppg = ~50 pts which in the past 10 years has been top 10 finish with the exception of 05/06 and 06/07 when 50 pts was only good enough for 11th.

8-10 points, but only if we find our goalscoring touch against Palace. Start scoring and IMO the goals will flow - that little bit of lady luck has been missing lately, as we had great chances against the Hammers and their keeper was on fire, or we hit the post.

I agree though, with that run of fixtures, if we can perform to our best we could, COULD pick up even as many as 12-13 points, which would almost definitely see us in the top 4 come November. Heady heights, if we can reach them. On the other hand there are no easy games, and we could quite easily mess up some "easier" fixtures, especially if we continue to struggle for goals.

especially if we continue to struggle for goals.

Interesting seeing Osvaldo's tweet on Saturday night that he is growing anxious to notch his first goal for us... Hope he can get off the mark soon... be a great fillet for his confidence.

"Yeah ! Well Done Saints! I am really happy for the victory! And I am a little anxious for the goal that does not come.."

*for those that hadn't seen it.

Can anyone remember back in 2001, in their second season back in top flight when Bolton stood top of the then Premiership after 6 games? After everything went pear shaped and they were lucky not to get relegated end of season.

It's a clear lesson that a good start to the season isn't a sign of being on the road to paradise/ In the same way a bad start can often see a turn around. We stand 4 points off the top 2 but also 4 points above the bottom 3. There are no easy games in the Premier League, and Saints often excel against the top teams whilst screwing up against the dross clubs.

It's not about breaking down defensive teams. We broke down Sunderland and West Ham enough to win 3 matches. Just poor finishing and basically looking like they never believed they'd score. I don't believe they go into these fixtures with enough belief at the moment. When people were talking about our squad and Arsenals, however extreme it seemed, the gap in quality had clearly shrunk, but the key difference remains teams like that are used to winning, believe they can win 5 or 6 in a row and grind out result after result. Saints don't have that and it'll take a long time to develop it, if ever.

BUT, that doesn't mean we can't have a very good season.

You must watch different games then.. we DO NOT break down teams easily... we get half-chances. Lets see if we create against C. Palace and compare to how Swansea break down defences...
