We wont have stripes, we wont wear yellow...and the reason Adam is subbed..

I honestly think the biggest factor playing in shirt selection is making the highest number of people buy a new kit every year. If the the kit hardly changes between two seasons (including the sponsor on the front) there is very little reason to buy a new shirt, costing you £50, is there?

Moreover, this year we have a new partner with Adidas, which I was really happy about when I heard the news, but to be honest I've been quite disappointed with the new kit (I have to admit I was hoping for a return of the stripes). In any case, I think they will finally return in a year or two.

And same applies to the yellow alternative kit. There's an anniversary from that legendary victory in the FA Cup Final so it sounds like the perfect time for it.

Only took 4 and a half years and 15 kits before he got to his "preference"......

I heard he wanted us to play in pink but was put off because Pompey beat us to it.

Just saying what I was told, and as I was told it way before the kit came out so I can only assume it was correct.

Maybe his preference was for solid red all along and only last year he decided to make the unpopular decision to change?

If he didn't want a solid red kit, we wouldn't have a solid red kit.

An office rumour, (or shop staff rumour) is just that a rumour, meaning its one person's opinion that they have passed on to others dressed up as fact. It doesn't make it true.

There's a perfectly sensible reason for not playing in stripes every year - which is that if the shirts are too similar from one year to the next, the fans who want to wear one to matches can get away with last year's shirt. the greater the change in the shorts, the more will be sold.

Saints fans should adopt the fashion widely followed in Rugby, that you wear as old a shirt as you can to demonstrate that you've been a supporter for a good number of years!

We'd have sold more striped adidas shirts than plain red ones, no matter what.

I don't understand the logic where people have said "we're moving from stripes to improve sales", when we are obviously reducing sales by doing so. If sales go back up if we go back to stripes all that does is show the seasons without stripes cost the club money in relative terms. No-one's going to buy a striped kit that wasn't already going to buy a striped kit but just didn't get the chance in the previous seasons. People who are weary of buying "another striped kit" aren't going to buy a red one just because it's not striped, they're just much more likely to buy an away kit instead, the colours of which have less significance for club identity.

There won't be any "stripes" factor any more than there's usually a "new kit" factor - what there won't be is an "I'm not buying that, Saints play in stripes" factor.

I'm a supporter of the idea to try new styles of kit to maximise sales. That said, IMO the new kit has to have some form of relevance other than being "different". The sash kit, probably one of the most ubiquitous Saints kits I've ever seen, its clear where that came from. There's loads more we could do to have a kit that still represents stripes of a sort: representations of the Ranx Xerox kit, the Hummel Denmark kit, even the 1976 home shirt to an extent. I simply don't believe this year's shirt is anywhere close to the sales level of the sash shirt, or even last season's abomination for that matter.

Whenever I see a thread like this one it prompts me to think we should have a thread somewhere where we name and shame trolls, attention-seekers and P*mpey fans who masquerade on here as Saints fans. I'm not saying this just in reference to the original poster although he certainly seems to fall into one of those categories with the rubbish he has posted. I am also referring to others who have backed him up like aintforever.

On P*mpey forums they don't stand for anyone they suspect of being a Saints fan and while I don't think we should stoop to their standards, I certainly think we should expose anyone who continually spouts rubbish like this with the apparent sole aim of causing disharmony among the club's supporters.

Whatever we do I think we all need to be aware that there will be a number of the blue few among us pretending to be Saints fans. I know it happens because I have done it the other way around when we were in League 1 and they were in the Prem. I only did it a couple of times over a week or two, but it showed me just how easy it is to play on your rival's fears and spread discontent.

Seriously, how can a grown man inflict his personal (not to mention poor) taste in design on an entire football club, thus detracting from its history & tradition. Pathetic. Hopefully tittle-tattle, but I suspect not.

How can? Well, he is so get used to it

Did you have an issue in the 80s with the all red kit

We didn't have an all red kit in the eighties, Delldays.

But I think we established your 'not bothered' position many, many months ago. but still you go on.

I don't really care about the shirt colour tbh. Last couple of seasons I have started off disliking it then ended up just getting used to it anyway. Same club' date=' [b']same badge,[/b] same players regardless of shirt colour.

Oh dear, can-of-worms?

Not care about the shirt colour?

Seriously? You'd have no objection if we turned out in Blue/Amber/Green/Claret next season? Extraordinary.

Come on trolls: 'Would you rather we qualified for Europe playing in a blue home strip, or be relegated wearing a red and white one, innit'.

Perhaps should have been more specific. I don't care if it's striped or not. I would obviously care if it was not red.
