Avenue Saint Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Good read. Defensively wanyama has shored us up no end! Anyone with half a brain can see that. The pace of the game is obviously differed to the SPL but this Wanyama guy, really can be something for us!

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Oh Wanyama can play alright, and he's as keen as mustard with it. I think the problem may be he's trying too hard at the moment to impress himself on both the game and his manager. If you can't win the ball cleanly then it's often better to just track your man and force him to play it backwards/sideways, rather than jump in rashly in a give away a free kick as you can see him doing recently. Right now you could say he does not match the measured level of composure on the ball that Jack Cork offered our midfield last season. But once he calms down a bit and plays more with his head rather than his heart, I'm sure he'll be a big asset for us because he's got it all. shurlock Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Vic and Morgan will get stronger but don't ignore Steven Davis who is hugely underrated. Would love to see him start. Our transition from midfield to attack was much more fluid after he came on.

Our transition from midfield to attack was much more fluid after he came on. Agree with this. Going forward i think i'd feel more comfortable with us picking one of Lambert/Osvaldo and one of Gaston/Davis to play in the hole behind them. Every time Davis is on the pitch i feel we look a better team collectively
paulwantsapint Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Is unfair to say big Vic is playing like Carlton Palmer did for us covers every blade of grass, breaks up play, brings the ball forward but not got a great 1st touch But after watching yesterday was happy that we had Vic & Morgan instead of liverpools midfield
Kingsland Red Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Wanyama, JWP, Davis, Cork and Spiderman all on the pitch at the same time at Anfield at the end- how to kill off a match !
Mr X Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Steven davis needs to start more, composed gets in good positions and has a decent shot on him we look a more cohesive unit when he plays
Olallana Posted 22 September, 2013 Author Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Davis is the perfect player in AM position if we´re leading due to his skill to keep and passing the ball but if we are behind he´s not creative enough for that position imo. He always seems to be able to work his way into space though and more often than not engineers a shot on goal

We have a decent set of midfielders at the club at the moment. VW needs to just play the easy ball a bit more and not dive in as much, but defensively he is a mountain. Shrugs players off for fun and breaks up a lot of play.
farawaysaint Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 (edited) He had a higher pass accuracy than Lambert, Lallana and Osvaldo in the last game. He also made more tackles than Shaw or Fonte and won 75% of his aerial duels (courtesy of who scored), statistically he's one of our better players So why do the bad parts of his game seem so noticeable in matches? Batman Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Stray passes from a holding midfielder tend to have bigger consequences than from strikers. also, a lot of his stray passes are usually from no/little pressure and intend to be short passes in straight line
SNSUN Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 I thought Wanyama started very poorly against West Ham, but he noticeably got better as the game went on. I think he's a powerhouse that brings so many positive attributes to the game and we must remember his age, he's still learning the game. I think him and Morgan will have a great partnership for years to come if we can keep them together. Yes, that sucks for Cork, who has done no wrong for us, but football is now a squad game and Corky will still get quite a few games.
