Bristol City Build Up

Would prefer to see him as one of the AM three MLG as don't know how good his hold up play will be.

Might be redundant if Ramirez can control possession well enough in final third and supply decent through balls to Lee, but we'll see...

Surprised Isgrove isn't involved. Injured? Anyone got any info on this McCarthy fella?

McCarthy is the interesting selection for me.....albeit on the bench tonight.

He is much younger than Turnbull and Stephens and has now progressed to U21 side.

Very good centre back who can also play right back and midfield......will watch this lad over the next few U21 games.

What with Targett , Rowe , Reid on the bench......the youngsters are being given a chance to shine.

I am one for the...hope Lee gets back to form/fitness and adds to the first team squad......

unlike some who write him off without ever seeing him play...he is obviously playing his way back in training...hope he shines tonight and continues the progress.

At what point in this competition do we stop playing the B side?

Hopefully from the next round.

Winning this should be our number one priority this season (beyond staying up, which we will do anyway).

Winning the league cup a much more satisfying achievement than finishing, say, eighth rather than thirteenth.

When we face a side where better players would be need to beat the opposition. Tonights line-up should be good enough to beat a League 1 side, a similar line-up beat a Championship side easily in the last round. There should in theory be no need to use our first choice players, and it keeps them fresh for Saturday.

Pochettino in underestimating opposition shocker.

They should be going for this - chance for european football next season.

Did you think that when Pochettino put a similar side out for the Barnsley game?

When was the last time we beat Bristol City?

I can't remember.

Why does that have any bearing on tonights game?

I have to agree with CB Fry, rather than Matthew Le God. I think once we get a certain way into this competition we might as well give it a good go regardless of the opposition. That means reducing risk which means playing some more first team regulars.

I was proposing putting out a side strong enough to beat the opposition. Something the team tonight should do, if we face a Premier League team in the next round I would like to see and would expect to see Pochettino put out very close to a full strength side.

You make a good point, and obviously doing that minimises risk in one sense when facing lesser opposition but it increases risk in terms of likelihood of losing.

Yep.

Because they are a bogey side - have never been confident when playing Bristol City, and they have always been underdogs.

OK MLG, answer the question - the last time we beat Bristol City was when?

I thought for one night only I would nip over to the dark side of this forum . **** what a crap team . Jesus we have no chance of winning with that formation . Mp does not have a clue . Not only are we going to stuffed to nite but there's no way we will survive in the premier . We will be relegated by Xmas . Thank goodness Di canio is available .. Right enough of the dark side .Its really scary . Come on saints let's show the negative brigade we can win a cup this year . Come on you reds

That team should be good enough for the Championship.

Excellent that the nippers are on the bench and the squad players will have a good hard run out, we may need one of them match fit for Saturday should anyone get a knock in training.

Many full strength PL teams get beaten in Cup games, this bunch have a REALLY good motivation to do well tonight

Can't see us scoring tonight, had a bet on City at a decent price. I don't mind making a few changes, but not a whole side. I don't buy into this 'keep them fresh' ********, we played midweek most weeks in the championship and that worked out ok

Really, should have kept your money in your wallet. 4-0

2003? Don't know if that was actually the last time but I remember going to Ashton Gate and seeing us win 3-0 in one of the cups.

With five internationals in the team, that 'reserve' squad really shouldn't struggle against Bristol City. City are a decent team and always managed to get one over on us, but that team we've put out should be more than good enough.

And if Ramirez doesn't shine, there is no hope for him...
