What a great signing he is looking to be! 9 millionish was it? Bargain! Solid, able to go forward and looks like he will weigh in with a few headers over the course of the season. Great partnership developing with Fonte who some on here had written off last season! He is brilliant, absolutely brilliant! I cursed Liverpool for getting Sakho (who will be a very good player for them), but Lovren is immense - pleased he scored. He'll be a real leader for us I'm sure, definite future team and club captain.

One moment yesterday that summed it up for me was when we were slightly under the cosh, and they lumped a ball forward about 100 foot in the air. Rather then just heading it anywhere, he got it down on his chest, got the ball out of his feet and laid it off simple. Brilliant player.

The first time I saw Lovren play he didn't make much of a impression on this fan to be honest and I thought that VW would probably be the star addition of the summer. But first impressions are very often wrong, because the defensive performances Lovren's been putting in recently are so assured anyone can see this lad can play. I should also say that playing alongside him may well have elevated Jose Fonte to another level too.
