OldNick Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 that phrase has caused a stir. It was stated by a UKIP mp. I have little time for UKIP but to sack the guy for that is ridiculous as it was taken totally out of context IMO. If you listen to it he said it with mirth and the women there are laughing along and took it as a joke. It came about as one of the ladies in the audience saying she had not cleaned behind her fridge and he then made the comment. Harmless and if people are getting het up about that then the worlds gone mad.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 Listening to LBC and they are going on about it now. Apparently UKIP are unhappy that the focus on Godfrey Bloom's sexist and racist gaffes is distracting from the fact they don't like gays either. ecuk268 Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 John Humphries was interviewing Farage on R4 this morning. He sacked him because he felt that the media leapt on remarks like that and used them to reinforce Cameron's remark that UKIP was a party of "loonies, fruitcakes and closet racists". Although I wouldn't touch UKIP with a bargepole, Farage is a very entertaining speaker.
solentstars Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 Not surprised the party live in.a time warp hate to think some people seriously think these fruit cakes can run the British economy. I think Cameron is glad to have had seen the old age pensioners of the nasty wing of the conservative right defect to Ukip in droves. Berkshire Saint Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 The strangest thing about Bloom is that he's only 63 but uses phrases that a Boer War veteran might have found old-fashioned.
swannymere Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 Sadly i think Farage is wasted on UKIP, i'm not a massive fan of his but he stirs things up in a positive fashion. The rest of UKIP however are drawing on peoples fears and misconceptions due to the poor economy, nobody whined about Europe or immigration when the economy was doing well. It has shades of an Amateur Dramatics group re-enacment of the rise of the Nazi party in 30's Germany.

Barry Sanchez Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 We should be given the vote on Europe and he is correct on his assessment of careerist politicians who have never worked in the real World but that does not stop his party being extremely volitile and made up of weirdos. swannymere Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 We should be given the vote on Europe. I'm not sure the British public actually know what they would be voting for, they seem to think it's just about immigration and straight bananas. Orange Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 If anyone was actually really offended by what he said then take a long hard look at yourself. Shame Bloom lost his cool when he was being harassed by the journalists and he couldn't see that rising to the bait gave them exactly what they were after. The way the BBC reported it was ridiculous, 'Bloom calls women sluts', so out of context. Scrap the license fee!

Sheaf Saint Posted 21 September, 2013 Share Posted 21 September, 2013 http://www.independent.co.uk/news/unfortunate-bbc-moustache-for-nigel-farage-8829452.html A pixelation error on the BBC’s big screen at Media City in Salford meant Nigel Farage appeared to have grown Hitler-style moustache when speaking to BBC Breakfast on Friday morning. In an unfortunate incident similar to a Father Ted episode where a perfectly square piece of dirt gave the Irish priest a moustache, the Ukip leader was left talking about an immigration crackdown with a large black pixel over his upper lip. He had been talking to the broadcaster about Enoch Powell following revelations that teachers saw him as a 'racist' and a 'fascist' at school.

Well in or out, the arguments for and against can be made once the vote is given, if you are still unsure after the arguments and discussions then you abstain, its quite simple really. PPE careerist politicians and on that he is correct. Bit of a lacking comment in my opinion. Experience of a certain type, i.e the 'real world' - whatever that is - doesn't necessarily mean you are any better equipped or not to lead and/or come up with solutions to problems. I think that sometimes a person removed from a situation who sits down and reads/studies all the facts and angles can come up with a better answer. And in government these angles involve big teams working together anyways. However, I'm yet to be convinced by Miliband as he seems to have no real policy direction at all. pap Posted 22 September, 2013 Share Posted 22 September, 2013 Slut, or any other term you choose to use, is one of the worst insults out there. It's retrograde nonsense that stems from male dominance and control. The fact that females so readily perpetuate that idea is tragic, and probably stops a lot of people from getting laid. Johnny Bognor Posted 23 September, 2013 Share Posted 23 September, 2013 LOL Sluts furious at UKIP member comparison Promiscuous women everywhere have spoken of their anger at being compared to a room full of UKIP activists. With UKIP member Godfrey Bloom calling a room full of UKIP women ‘sluts’, genuine sluts have said it draws a dangerous parallel for people who know them. Self-proclaimed slut Sharon Williams told us, “I can live with being called names such a slattern, harlot, and strumpet – but being likened to a UKIP support is absolutely taking it too far.” “What if someone assumes that just because I’m a slut that I also want Johnny Foreigner to go back where he came from?” “Already I’ve had one woman look down her nose at me because she thought I believed immigration was weakening the country’s white bloodline.” “When she found out that actually I just have a very welcoming vagina, she was very apologetic.” UKIP sluts Sluts across the country have called for an official apology from Godfrey Bloom, insisting that the harm done to their reputations by his comparison could prove irreparable. As one explained, “Who will want to have sex with us if they think we’re a closet racist little-Englander a bit too afraid to join the BNP.” Williams went on, “Just because I am a willing sexual partner for just about anyone who shows an interest in me, does not mean I don’t care about being a decent person to people from different countries.” “I have no interest in being the acceptable face of racism in this country. Just the slutty one.”

I don't understand this stance, he is a career politician just like the others. It's very easy attack to make to try to capitalise on the anti mainstream party feeling at the moment. UKIP make try to disguise themselves as a non mainstream organisation, but they are just the same as the tories with more extreme policies on certain issues. Wade Garrett Posted 23 September, 2013 Share Posted 23 September, 2013 I saw the BBC interview Farage on the morning of the day this happened. It was clear that the BBC had it in for UKIP, asking some truly foolish questions. Then the way they reported this jokey remark, that caused no offence to anyone in the room, was disgraceful. The BBC have always had it in for UKIP. They used to do all they could to ignore them completely and give no coverage, then when they got too big they chose the other route of ridiculing them at every moment possible. buctootim Posted 23 September, 2013 Share Posted 23 September, 2013 Ive got no time for UKIP, but they were stitched up. The guy is an old crusty who was using 'slut' in terms of being slack on housework when making a joke about cleaning behind the fridge. Its a good example of why we now nearly exclusively have only career politicians who speak only in soundbites. Anybody says anything even slightly off message and there is a huge wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Lord Duckhunter Posted 23 September, 2013 Share Posted 23 September, 2013 You've got Lord Rennard running around sexually harassing females, with Cleggy hushing it up, Gordon Brown and his "macho culture", yet the BBC concentrate on a bar room buffoon and a dodgy "joke" he made.
