Premier League Away Fund

The PL this year have introduced a fund to "assist" away fans. It's all a bit paltry, but nonetheless it is something as the FSF say and is at least a step forward in the realisation that away fans actually add to the atmosphere of the whole thing.

However, I have absolutely no idea what Saints are doing with the money. Apparently they have to announce it by 30th September, but I can only assume there has been no consultation. Anyone have any idea.

In my view, we should copy Liverpool and discount money from the ticket price, as this would benefit all Saints travelling fans.

well that was a sensible discussion.

we've had this mentioned on other threads before, these chaps at Liverpool have been particularly vocal in support of change http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/premier-league-money-for-away-fan-initiatives

Stoke have topped up their fund, running coaches for free to every away game, Norwich are doing that to a few, Liverpool reducing tickets, Chelsea subsidised travel in coaches but also chartered a train to Man Utd away (Monday night so couldn't get back on a normal service) and only charged fans a £10 return for it, not bad at all.

nothing from Saints yet- but we have seen they have stopped charging booking fees for card payments at the window and reduced them online, would not surprise me if that is what they'll claim the money has gone towards!

if they choose to put it all towards one game Sunderland in January or Hull on a Tuesday night would make sense.

I believe ours has subsidised the cheap childrens tickets when with a paying adult. Was something about it on BBC site.

well that hasn't been the case so far this season, and it's not been mentioned officially, so unless you can find this BBC story i'd say that was inaccurate

Looking for it now. Was mentioned in another story on the Price of Football survey stuff on the BBC Football website.

Some clubs have done coach travel, others have taken a couple of pounds off a ticket for each match, and ours was a reference to the cheap deals for kids when accompanied by an adult. Unless I have confused it with something else.

This fund is meant to apply to away matches. I agree with the OP, Liverpool's approach to this has been the best.

Saints should subsidise the cost of tickets for Chelsea away for game live on Sky for starters, rather than free coaches

£10 off a ticket = £30,000 if we sell our full allocation

then everyone attending benifits rather than the minority that go by coach

To be fair for Chelsea away, considering it's on TV and only a week after Arsenal, probably going to have to be considerably less than £40 for us to sell our full allocation.

Probably nothing to do with this fund but I was talking to a Swansea supporter before the last home game and he said that they had all received a voucher for a pie and pint to be used in the away end and Swansea would give the same to all Saints away supporters for the return fixture.

That came out of their 200k.

Would be great if we could reduce ticket prices after the Arsenal game, especially around the Christmas period.

As i said earlier on a different thread, they should definatley subsidise the tickets for Chelsea where £49 - £51 for a televised game on a Sunday will mean a poor turn out of Saints, whereas if those tickets were £15 -20 cheaper far more would go and it would only cost the club £60K at most, and still leave £140K in the fund

They could put on a football special train then, would be a good day out.
