Big Bad Bob Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 Yes, it's deliberate to increase sales of Amazon Prime. Is that a new character in Michael Bay's next film?
alpine_saint Posted 18 September, 2013 Author Share Posted 18 September, 2013 Yes, it's deliberate to increase sales of Amazon Prime. So, they are turning into the internet shopping equivalent of Ryanair.
Patrick Bateman Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 Anyone else noticing that their despatch/delivery times are getting worse and worse ? It's called managing expectations. They spread their delivery loads over various logistics/delivery services, some of them are over-stretched. For example, buy clothes and more than likely DPD will delivery. Buy electronis and it'll be Yodel/HDNL. Buy books and it'll be Royal Mail more often than not. As online commerce increases, it's actually logistics and delivery that can't keep pace. To counter act this and manage expectations of delivery times more, Amazon seem to be extending the expected delivery day further to avoid complaints over something that's actually slightly beyond their control. Of course, if you pay for Amazon Prime (as you absolutely should), you'll get free next day delivery when available which works 99.9% of the time, courier independent as long as you're in. Scummer Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 It doesn't seem to be the delivery time that's the problem, it's that they don't dispatch the item for 2/3 days. That's totally within Amazon's control, which is why I think they are doing it deliberately to increase take-up of Prime.
dronskisaint Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 No, just they are offering a choice rather than having a standard set time. Standard enough practice...set a service level precedent and then make the customer realise that service of this nature has a price. That being said they are more often ahead of the delivery time predicted.

alpine_saint Posted 18 September, 2013 Author Share Posted 18 September, 2013 I complained via their chat service today. They explained that sometimes there is a delay when an order for several items has to be collected together for one delivery from several different distribution centres. I argued back that they normally then despatch separately at no extra cost, and it is not possible for customers to see Amazons internal logistic issues. They explained that only happens when one item is out of stock or on order and is expect to significantly delay the rest. My conclusion is that this is either something to do with a glitch in their internal logistics, or I am being spun a line. They did however upgrade my order to Prime status at no cost and its now on its way...
JackFrost Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 They're probably flat out with GTA5 orders on top of their usual workload
Barry Sanchez Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 Maybe if they paid their employees more and gave them full working assured hours there would be more motivation.
bridge too far Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 It would be helpful too if they paid taxes fairly
Weston Super Saint Posted 18 September, 2013 Share Posted 18 September, 2013 Never had a problem with Amazon. Always been delivered ahead of schedule and well packaged. On the one occasion that I had some shysters from Hong Kong trying to flog hookey goods, Amazon got involved straight away, refunded me in full and removed them from their supplier list - can't complain at that and you would never receive such service from flea bay! On the rare occasion that I need something to be delivered next day, I pay the couple of quid extra safe in the knowledge that it would cost me more to drive to the nearest place that sells what I want, pay ridiculous amounts of money to park the car and on most occasions be charged more than it would cost on Amazon because there is a 'captive' market! For me, Amazon is a Gods send! I don't have to go into town and be annoyed by the chavs and their brats and I can get everything I need delivered to my office guaranteeing that it will always be delivered! Hamilton Saint Posted 19 September, 2013 Share Posted 19 September, 2013 Anyone else noticing that their despatch/delivery times are getting worse and worse ? No. I ordered something from Amazon UK yesterday; it was dispatched 23 hours later. I'll let you know how long it takes to get here. I ordered something else yesterday - from Amazon Canada. Dispatched 25 hours later. I've always been satisfied with Amazon. Quick and reliable.

NickG Posted 19 September, 2013 Share Posted 19 September, 2013 Alpine places order with a company. Most people expect that company to deliver within 7 days. Alpine says company don't know what they are doing, moans about everything to do with them but decides to stick with them. Alpine predicts delivery in 10 days. After two days there is no news on despatch. Alpine is told its early days. But he is not happy. Alpine says his order is doomed and will not arrive. The order is delivered before expectation after 5 days. Alpine says its only by luck they over achieved and won't happen again. Alpine moans about company. Alpine places another order with company. Says they haven't learnt from they mistake of last order (although unable to say what it is) Alpine places another order. Alpine predicts slower delivery than most. Company deliver quicker... The cycle repeats. Yes I am bored on course

hutch Posted 20 September, 2013 Share Posted 20 September, 2013 I had a similar problem with DABS last week. Shame really, I've bought loads and loads of computer kit off them over the past 10 years or more, but won't use them again now. I won't bore you with the details, but my issue isn't that they had a problem handling my order (we all have problems at some time or other), but that the gobby little northern tart on the customer service line was hell bent on blaming me for their problem. NickG Posted 20 September, 2013 Share Posted 20 September, 2013 Uncommonly funny from you. Must be a really boring course. Thank, yes it was total waste of time - that post was my biggest achievement of the week! Generally agree btw, they are slower but ordered two things Wednesday morning (one Amazon themselves and one from their suppliers) both free standard delivery arrived next day. JackFrost Posted 20 September, 2013 Share Posted 20 September, 2013 95% of the things I've ordered off amazon have arrived as expected. The only things that haven't have been from the odd private seller and amazon have exceeded my expectations when dealing with them. 95% of the things I've ordered off ebay I've had a problem with
