KelvinsRightGlove Posted 16 September, 2013 Posted 16 September, 2013 Probably a bad idea even starting this, but some nasty stuff going down in Washington: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24120333 Reports of shots heard at the White House too. Sorry...

hypochondriac Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 I don't see any blood in any of the photos so far. Lets be honest it was most likely an actor pretending to shoot people.
Verbal Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 I don't see any blood in any of the photos so far. Lets be honest it was most likely an actor pretending to shoot people. Don't joke. Within five hours of the shooting there were at least ten conspiracy "theories" out there, all of them hilariously stupid as usual. http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/10-conspiracy-theories-people-are-already-circulating-about

Whitey Grandad Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 You all seem to be remarkably flippant about the deaths of twelve people.
Dimond Geezer Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 You all seem to be remarkably flippant about the deaths of twelve people. It's an unfortunate reality that when something terrible happens with such regularity, it fails to shock anymore. RiP
Jonnyboy Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 Once again you could sense the disappointment in the media that it wasn't a group of Muslims.
pap Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 It's an unfortunate reality that when something terrible happens with such regularity, it fails to shock anymore. RiP The headline on USA today simply reads "Again"
holepuncture Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 You all seem to be remarkably flippant about the deaths of twelve people. Barack Obama said he mourned "yet another mass shooting"
jjsaint Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 The Telegraph (yes I know) had a good point: there's no point in limiting gun access as guns are so prevalent in the US. People will just get them on the black market.

People will just get them on the black market. That's a retarded view, you can buy guns on the black market in the UK but people are not dying in mass shootings all over the place. It will take time but they have to start phasing out this bizarre gun culture they have in the US. The harder it is for criminals to get guns, the less people will die. It's just common sense.
bridge too far Posted 17 September, 2013 Posted 17 September, 2013 Good article on the wider issue of (lack of) gun control in the US http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/sep/17/washington-dc-shootings-america-gun-disease

Sorry for the retarded point of view. However you cannot compare gun ownership in the US and the UK. It is a completely different culture. You also cannot argue that it would be far, far more difficult to get guns off the street in the US. I believe in gun control in any country (I feel the UK laws are too relaxed, not to mention most US states), and you're right that it should be phased out, but it would be nigh on impossible. Not to mention the fact that anyone who tried it would be voted out of office.

However, a person intent on mass killing would find it harder to kill so many in one go with any other weapon before being overwhelmed.

If guns were not available many would find and use something else Possibly, but you'd have to be more determined. With a simple hand gun you can casually fire a couple rounds of in a second, that's two fatals in a second & from a safe distance. With any other weapon, lets's say a knife, you've got to be within striking distance & the kill rate would be a lot less.

Any move to make machine guns less accessible to nut jobs would save some lives.
