It's There Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Meh. I predicted a loss before the game. I was happy to avoid relegation at the beginning of the season and we are currently achieving that. Occasionally I also get to see some good football so I feel happier than some of the games I watched last season. With a young team you will always get gash performances like this but as long as we keep our heads above water that will do for me. No point in being suicidal. If we were Charlton I would probably be very worried but we are still above the relegation zone. I have to say I agree with this view..and we can maybe get a decent striker in Jan on loan hopefully. I thought the quality on the ball was very good, apart from Robertson's control(!) but they definitely lack strength up front. Still, we're not as bad as some teams... 3 at least
Mr X Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Are we in the relegation zone? Are we bottom of the league? No so we aren't in trouble. There is a threat of relegation but I'm not making a mountain out of a molehill. Newsflash: one win at home all season is relegation form
alpine_saint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 We know, we ain't stupid Its not you I think is stupid. Its the management of the club. Apparently, we've "started enjoying success"..:rolleyes:
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Its not you I think is stupid. Its the management of the club. Apparently, we've "started enjoying success"..:rolleyes: Did i blink and miss it?
monosaint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I read that Roy Keane wants to return to management.. He likes a good challenge.. Maybe he could bring Kenwyn Jones back.. That's exactly who we need up front.. I don't think that RL will allow this to run on.. He has shown in the past that his loyalties are very temporary..
hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I would quit while you are ahead mate. I used to respect your views but tonight you are looking like King Canute! Have we been ****e in every game this season? The only thing we have to do is be less ****e in games than three teams. The temptation after games like Reading, Preston and Derby is to go overboard and the same is true after crap performances like this.
Seaford Saint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I hope that posting that drivel at least made you feel a bit better. Does the fact that I was spot-on about Burley have no bearing on how you view my posts ? It is the relentless negativity......on and on and on.
badgerx16 Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 It doesn't matter as long as we stay above the bottom 3. At this rate that will be about 3 weeks then.
hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Newsflash: one win at home all season is relegation form Unless three teams perform worse than you or you do well away from home.
Micky Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 (edited) Toothless, placid & dire - not my words. Just some of the descriptives used by MLT about our display and situation during his summing up on Sky. I would think that he might have been a little reserved as well - so I wonder what he really thought...??? Edited 8 December, 2008 by Micky
jim_bergerac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Nice to see Rupert the Bear. Nice kit, may ask Santa for that one. As for the game, star performers on the night were the Saints fans who turned up, fair play to you.
alpine_saint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I read that Roy Keane wants to return to management.. He likes a good challenge.. Maybe he could bring Kenwyn Jones back.. That's exactly who we need up front.. I don't think that RL will allow this to run on.. He has shown in the past that his loyalties are very temporary.. Oh, at some point JP will fall on his sword and "leave by mutual consent" and become the sacrificial lamb, but then it will be the turn for Wotte to do the same....then Hockaday...then God knows who.
Legod Third Coming Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Is that all you've got ? The unshaking belief they are giving 100% ? Guess what ? Its not enough. You said they didn't have the stomach for it, they do. And your brilliant plan to turn things around is... Do you get it? We have NO cash. This is as good as we are. Some days it's good enough to beat Reading and other days we'll lose to Palace. If the league finished today we are safe and can build for next season. That must be our hope given where we are.
mprobert Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Newsflash: one win at home all season is relegation formLets not get too carried away - only Wolves have more away wins in the CCC but that doesnt make us promotion favorites
hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 At this rate that will be about 3 weeks then. In which case maybe some of these comments would be more valid then!
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Oh, at some point JP will fall on his sword and "leave by mutual consent" and become the sacrificial lamb, but then it will be the turn for Wotte to do the same....then Hockaday...then God knows who. Rupert will get his tracksuit out again
Seaford Saint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Its not you I think is stupid. Its the management of the club. Apparently, we've "started enjoying success"..:rolleyes: Let me help you. Lowe has had to sell loads and loads of players to save money. At the same time the numbers going to Saint Mary's is dropping. So if we can avoid relelgation/administration we will have done well this season. I'll say it again....if we avoid relegation we will have done well. Would I have retained Pearson? yes, I would, Lowe has taken a chance on teh Dutch coach and here we are. Its the bigger picture
Bailey Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I would like to put this down as 'a bad day at the office' but it really was a poor performance all round. With recent results, I thought we were making slow progression, but then this. I haven't voted for MOTM as I don't think anyone stood out particularly. Le Tiss summed the game up perfectly by saying we played pretty football in the wrong part of the pitch and were toothless going forward. Lets hope we can pull a rabbit out the hat at Burnley on Saturday, as we could certainly do with the points! Wouldn't be surprised to see some major changes for that game too, as I thought we looked pretty tired tonight, which is to be expected I guess.
corsacar saint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I expect Lowe went into the changing room after the game to tell them how well they played. A totally woeful performance against another ordinary side with a couple of battering rams up front, but hey there are some on here who still see positives. This is the worst side I have seen in 45 years supporting the club.[ I do not blame the kids in as much as they have been thrown in the deep end, but most of them are not presently good enough for this league].

Winnersaint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 **** off Jan, **** off Rupert, **** off Wotte. Watched last episode of Spooks instead. Much more exciting.
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 You said they didn't have the stomach for it, they do. And your brilliant plan to turn things around is... Do you get it? We have NO cash. ulstersaint Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Less there is no less Defence = Useless Midfield = Clueless Attack = Toothless And as for MC Baldrick I can't think of another player I have never wanted to put on the shirt again. Top post! All pretty passing but nothing at all in the final third. Not a shot on goal worth mentioning. And the defence was again bullied off the ball by a big striker - and as many said pre-season this division is full of big, burly strikers. Robertson, Pearce, BWP were useless tonight and McG was worse than useless. What a total waste of space he is - not even bothered to chase balls and show effort. Gasmi the sub was truly awful. As for Surman and Lallana being sold for big bucks - the offers from Premier clubs are unlikely to flood in as they were both anonymous tonight. Matt Le Tiss had the right word for it on Sky - "dire".
saint63 Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I've witnessed many poor performances over recent years but this was the worst. A very poor lightweight team with no strike power and poor tactics. A more direct style is needed rather than this powder puff passing sideways which allows teams to regroup. We were out powered in midfield. When will the leadership learn that this team is struggling and will certainly be relegated. I predict by Christmas we will be bottom and there we'll stay. Where are you Leon Crouch?

Its the bigger picture No, the bigger picture would have been, under Crouch, to let Pearson build his own team and impose his own work-rate and fitness ethic on the squad, whatever would have been left after the fire sale. The results would have been better, and the attendances of a united fan-base would have been higher meaning that the financial situation would have been better. Lowe's pride finally snapped and he has actually wrecked this club a second time round too.
badgerx16 Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Have we been ****e in every game this season? Not EVERY game no, but quite a few of them The temptation after games like Reading, Preston and Derby is to go overboard and the same is true after crap performances like this. We were just as sh1te in the first half at Preston, they just stopped playing for the second 45, for which we punished them.
hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 All except three that I have seen at home. Well even if that were true (I personally disagree.) It is currently GOOD ENOUGH.

Fine then Reading and Derby and the Birmingham cup game. It doesn't matter because the point still stands. We don't have to be good, we just have to be better than three other teams.

um pahars Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 I've witnessed many poor performances over recent years but this was the worst. Don't worry, some will soon be on here telling us the football is exciting this season!!!! You never know Iwelumo may even big us up again!!!!!!

hypochondriac Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Was in the top 5 without doubt. Plymouth Charlton Leeds Watford and Preston have all been worse in recent seasons IMO. Not really important though to be honest.

I should think tonight's televised performance will be worth another 1,000 off our home gates. I reckon Administration will come before relegation.
badgerx16 Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Fine then Reading and Derby and the Birmingham cup game. It doesn't matter because the point still stands. We don't have to be good, we just have to be better than three other teams. Which means relying on Watford and Charlton not improving, and not losing any of our better youngsters in January. It isn't enough for Rupes to imply we don't need to sell, if enough of a wedge is waved under his nose he'll bite as quick and as hard as Redknapp does at a stuffed brown envelope. If the current positions are reflected at the final whistle of the last match of the season, that will be a wonderful relief, but we are taking one hell of a gamble in the meantime.
Legod Third Coming Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 Do you post under instruction from Lowe? Yes, that's right. You asked for the argument, got a cogent one and now resort to petty name calling. Well trust me, I know Latin, French and German so fire away oh wondrous name-caller... yawny yawn yawn... yaboo sucks.
Ado Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 i don't post alot but we had all this talk about using the academy players etc and tonight i feel we were missing one ex-academy player who i feel could really have done well in this team.....Dexter Blackstock really feel he could have flourished and gave us a bit more bite up front

Where are you Leon Crouch? 7-1 at Watford was bad for me. 6-2 at home to Spurs having been 2-0 up and cruising was quite painful. Losing 4-3 at Tranmere was pretty excrutiating. And the 4-1 at Fratton was embarrassing. But no, on reflection tonight was the Kristal nacht of Southampton Football Club, the zenith of poor performance. Exaggeration? Me, no chance. As I've said a million times over...

I agree but why go mental over something which hasn't happened yet? We could make a few astute loan signings or unearth a gem like Schneiderlin or better. I can't tell the future but I can look at the part of the season which has passed and say I am satisfied. I expected to do worse than our current position so I am satisfied. I set my sights low and I'm not being disappointed. Crystal Palace are a better team than us, plain and simple. I'll start losing sleep once we're bottom of the league and five points from safety like Charlton but not before. Why shout that relegation is a certainty after a few bad results when we aren't even in the relegation zone? It doesn't make any sense. Anyway the Forest game will be the biggie. Win that and we should hopefully start to pull clear.

Teddy Nutkins Posted 8 December, 2008 Posted 8 December, 2008 When will this management team realise, that, if their system of play does not work, they change it.Pretty football will not win us enough games to stay in this league. Also time to drop some of those big-headed prima-donas who think that pulling on the shirt is enough. Earn your money you bunch of ****s. Of course the problem is we don't have any alternatives do we, what a ****ing mess.
