Liverpool v Saints Build Up

trousers

Assuming no injuries

Boruc

Clyne

Fonte

Lovren

Shaw

Wanyama

Schneiderlin

JRod

Gaston

Lallana

Lambert

subs Davis, Chambers, Yoshida, Cork, S Davis, JWP, Osvaldo

i think Ramirez fits our pressing game better at 10 than Lambert and I'd go for Rickie to start. Jrod for all his knockers on here offers us something different in the way he runs at defences.

Having already been to Anfield about 3 times I'd thought I'd leave this one out

and either listen via Solent to DM & Co or will watch Soccer Saturday/Final Score

and as much as I want Saints to pull off an unlikely win I am going to go for either

1-0 or 2/3-1 them and am more pleased that Suarez misses this one due to his ban

but still with Gerrard & Co I can still see them turn us over but this is Saints and football

for you so will see what happens!

I hope the fans who are going have a good one whatever the result and sing loud and

proud!

COYR!!! :D

We were decent at wba, but other than that we have not been as fluid as i would have expected. If we play to the best of our ability & with their missing players then we have a chance of getting something.

Having said that, head says 2-0 them. Can see our goal drought continuing I'm sad to say. Would love nothing more than to be proved wrong! Coyr.... I mean blacks.

I'm gonna go mental and predict a 3-0 or 3-1 win for us. Lambert (2) and Osvaldo.

Ooooh yeah.

Those scorelines are a bit mental but I am convinced we'll win.

2-1 or 1-0 maybe.

At 5pm cue the "seee, seee, we are Champions League" nutcases coming out of the woodwork.

And it's no coincidence that Wanyama had a great game at WBA but has been less impressive in the games since then. Our midfield was so much more fluid last season when we had Cork and Schneiderlin at CM, and I really hope JC gets picked today and that Wanyama is forced to fight for his place in the team to (hopefully) prevent him from getting complacent.

Amazing that the coaches and manager who see Wanyama performing at training and in practice matches have him ahead of Jack Cork but some people on here, most of whom who haven't seen Cork play since last season believe he's the better player. Just as well its the coaches and the manager who make the team selection.

As for today, I see its standard stuff from the BBC talking about Liverpool, Liverpool, Liverpool. I want us to win every game, of course, but to win this one and stuff it down the throats of the pundits will be absolutely brilliant. How about goals by Wanyama, Osvaldo and Lambert as the cream on the cake.

As I always said at the time of the Wanyama transfer saga his problem was always going to be a consistent level of performance. He might have had a great game against Barca but then he probably had 2 parks level matches against Ross County or St Johnstone or similar where no effort was really required. We have paid way way over the odds for a player that we didn't really need.

Wanyama should play in away games against the in-form top teams, when we might be glad to draw, and at home against the heavies like West Ham and Brom, but Cork always against teams that play intelligent, good fluent football. The Cork/Spiderman partnership was the envy of the Premiership and we must not throw this 'jewel in our crown' away. It all comes down to VW's erratic passing ability which can cause problems. If he plays, this match could be crucial to his career in the middle imo.

1-1

I'm not saying he is a better player, I'm just going on the evidence before my eyes. I watched most of the games last season and the fluidity that we had in midfield - the way we passed it around and worked the ball up the pitch - was of a much higher standard than I have seen so far this season. Last week Wanyama didn't release the ball quickly enough and that allowed him to be closed down by the West Ham forward players which prevented us from building our attacks in the way that we seemed to be able to do last season when Cork was playing alongside Schneiderlin. Just an observation.

I don't doubt that MP and the coaching staff see something in Wanyama that convinced them he was worth spending all that money on, but given how effective JC and MS were in CM last season, I think MP made a mistake by dropping Cork from the matchday squad entirely to accommodate a very expensive signing who has yet to prove he was worth the money.

Encouraging stats:

•Southampton have averaged the second-highest possession figure this season (59.1%).

•They have allowed only nine shots on target this season - fewer than any other side, while Liverpool have conceded the second most (22).

Just need to start scoring.................

I would go down the proven route of saying stats are there to comfort the failings of teams and people, bollo cks put ball in the net and screw stats.

Presume that's why Liverpool have setup as they have. Plus our full backs will be forced back by Moses and Aspas/Henderson.

Yep, interesting tactical idea from Rodgers, could work well for them. Hopefully the pace of Rodriguez and trickery of Lallana and Osvaldo will still be able to find a way through the forest of Liverpool CBs.

We are the commentary game on BBC 5 Live if that helps.

Thank you.

and thank you.

As for the line up, it still looks a strong team, but Lambert and Osvaldo must click soon if they're going to continue to play together IMO. Also, we're going to be very narrow again. Maybe we'll play on the counter attack?

Is this your new start of season mantra? Last season was "we are far too open and will be relegated".

He haven't been hoofing the ball too much at all. 59% average possession of the ball so far this season.

Just an observation, we look very different from what served us well last season. Just lumping it forward

at SMS a few months ago, we outplayed liverpool quite a lot. great movement and quick passing as well as lots of pressing

lets see today
