WealdSaint Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 (edited) I'd be tempted to stick with the same team that played WH. Remember how well JRod played against them at St Mary's earlier on this year? Having watched Swansea vs Liverpool it seems likely that the match on Saturday will be fast paced. I would hope that Ponch sits VW in front of the video of the Swansea game to show him what happens when passes go astray against Liverpool Edited 18 September, 2013 by WealdSaint crap typing
Mowgli Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 Yes. Going with same team as Sunday too. They deserve to start. Think JWP and Ramirez will both play roles later on though. And I would like to see the option of Cork on the bench. I'm starting to think he is carrying injury otherwise he would have been involved at the weekend surely?
dan abnormal Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 Boruc Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw Wanyama Morgan Jrod Davis Lallana Osvaldo
The Cat Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 Everyone agrees on the defensive line up which is a luxury we haven't had for years. I'd stick with the same team we had against West Ham.
Twiggy Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 Boruc Clyne Lovren Shaw Wanyama Schneiderlin Cork Ramirez JWP Osvaldo SRL Subs - Fonte, Davies, Lallana, Chambers, Cork First Post lets mix it up a bit!
Suhari Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 if MP starts with both lambert and osvlado, i will have huge reservations about his ability to take us from the lower mid table region Where's the 'Like' button? I want to hit it hard. We CANNOT play SRL and Ossie together, and deliver a high pressing, progressive, posession game. It's one or the other, or it's hoof-ball.
Sour Mash Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 If any one is still after a ticket for this the unoffical Saints Travel people are doing a match ticket/coach ticket combined.

And I would like to see the option of Cork on the bench. I'm starting to think he is carrying injury otherwise he would have been involved at the weekend surely? No idea whether Cork is injured, but we are a weaker side without him. I reckon he was one of our three best players last season, so I'm kind of hoping theres a reason for him not playing other than a management decision.
Jack Posted 18 September, 2013 Posted 18 September, 2013 Boruc Clyne Lovren Shaw Wanyama Schneiderlin Cork Ramirez JWP Osvaldo SRL Subs - Fonte, Davies, Lallana, Chambers, Cork First Post lets mix it up a bit! Welcome to the board. I just thought if take this opportunity to point out that you haven't got enough defenders in your lineup, and you've got too many midfielders. Regards. Jack.
Saint Paul C Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 --------- Boruc --------- Clyne - Fonte - Lovren - Shaw --------- Big Vic --------- ----- Gaston - Morgan ----- --- Dani - SRL - Lallana ---

JRM Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Liverpool have clearly had a good start and will benefit from not having extra European games , but I think we could be playing them at a good time. Suarez is still suspended and Courtinho is injured , 2 important attacking players , plus they have a cup game away to Man Utd a few days later. having said that we'll probably lose 1-0 just like last year
Professor Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Do remember chaps and chapesses, although mostly chaps, that this is the real world, not fantasy football. A team with 10 defenders or ten strikers would be just as relevant as some of the suggestions being made, ie, not relevant at all. MP will make the selection and trying to anticipate what his line-up will be is interesting, but fans trying to act as substitute managers is not. I for one don't want to know what someone else thinks the team should be but I do want to know what you think MP's team will be.
Kingsbridge Saint Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Liverpool without Coutinho couldn't get the ball off Swansea for the last half hour in the week. They ain't that great. 1-1 for me. Boruc, Clyne, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Wanyama, JRod, Osvaldo, Lambert all straight onto the teamsheet. Fill in the gaps. Schneiderlin is probably one of them.
ericofarabia Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Don't mind who plays, just so long as they put on a decent show and plenty of commitment to the cause. I'd really really love it if we could win and have the players celebrating like mad in front of us at the end of the match!! That would be just perfect.
Ulrich van Gobbel Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Same team as West Ham for me.. We didn't win because of an inspired Finnish keeper. I think they deserve to start again and they will create opprtunities. Big Vic and Morgan will have to have inspired games if we are to get something out of this game. My heart says Saints to pull off a very hardworking 0-1 win with Osvaldo's debut goal and my head says a battling 1-1 draw. It couldn't be a better time to play Liverpool away at the moment. I have a very good feeling that we will not lose this one! COYR! Boruc Clyne - Fonte - Lovren - Shaw Wanyama - Schneiderlin Lallana - Lambert - Rodriguez Osvaldo

jawillwill Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 It couldn't be a better time to play Liverpool away at the moment. Whilst they're top of the league, playing better than they have for years?
DuncanRG Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 It's a classic banana skin for them. Good teams in bad form always look to bounce back hard when smaller teams come to their ground.
Tokyo-Saint Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 You'd think they'd be able to afford better shoes than that and maybe even a belt.
dubai_phil Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 I know he's a scouser, but SURELY, now he's on PL wages Rickie can afford to go to a Barber and tell his Mum to ditch the Pudding Basin

I for one don't want to know what someone else thinks the team should be but I do want to know what you think MP's team will be. I will bite oh Great One .... MP's team for Saturday: ............... Holy Goalie ................ Clyne ..... Lovren ..... Fonte .... Shaw ............... MS ...... VW ............... ................... JWP ..................... Osvaldo ......... SRL ............. AL Not quite sure how it shapes up on the pitch but that might be MP's players for the starting XI? If you are not interested in my team, look away now: usual suspects across the back, plus .............................VW ............................... ......................MS ......... JC ......................... .............................GR................................ ..............JRod .................Dani ................... Not quite sure how it all pans out but I'm picking three centre mids and recalling our talisman JC, hopefully to kick start MS into finding some form. I'm also recalling the Great White Hope and would tell him he's playing the next 6 games in his favoured no. 10 spot -it's down to him now - shape up or ship out at Xmas. I'd play Osvaldo who looked class on Sunday (horror miss not withstanding). I'd persist with JRod, he's a confidence player and with his pace on the counter he might find himself in wide-open spaces as L'pool are forced fd in the later stages while suffering a frustrating 0-0 score line. SRL to brood on the Anfield bench before a triumphant last 15 minutes where he does a Chelsea/Man City, 0-1 Saints, Lambert R 83 mins, I'd take that.
Olallana Posted 19 September, 2013 Posted 19 September, 2013 Is that the club badge on Rickies tie?? Would be veru funny if it is with all the complaints on here that MP doesn´t wear a club tie during games when it might be just that.....

bender Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 It's a classic banana skin for them. Good teams in bad form always look to bounce back hard when smaller teams come to their ground. How are Liverpool a good team in bad form? For me, they're an average team in good form.
hutch Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 How are Liverpool a good team in bad form? For me, they're an average team in good form. Exactly, I see this as the overperformers vs. the underperformers. Unpredictable but probably the best game of the season for us so far. Live on the box down here too.
DuncanRG Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 How are Liverpool a good team in bad form? For me, they're an average team in good form. Sorry, should have been more clear - of course they're in good form. What I meant is that when big teams are out of form and get a home fixture against a smaller club there's often a big reaction and the little team gets thumped. When you're playing well there can be a degree of complacency, when it's 'only Southampton'.
Saint Charlie Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 Hopefully THEVMAN will provide some hints like last week....
Lighthouse Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 How are Liverpool a good team in bad form? For me, they're an average team in good form. But this is going to be Liverpool's year! (TM.1994)
sandwichsaint Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 But this is going to be Liverpool's year! (TM.1994) TBF they are starting to get in a position to do a lot better, decent manager, decent new GK, they appear to have shed some deadwood and any team fielding Suarez, Sturridge + Coutinho shouldn't struggle for goals.
Saint Garrett Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 Liverpool will have a really good season this year IMO. Have got rid of the ****e, lowered the wage bill, think they may have even made a profit this summer? Or maybe it was before they bought Illori, Moses and Sakho in. Still, they have a really good balance in their side, 2 top strikers, some top players in behind and a very solid defence. And a very impressive long term keeper. They'll do well this season and a point would be a great result up there.
Saint Charlie Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 Saints have allowed opponents the fewest shots at goal (9) of any team so far this season, whilst Liverpool have allowed the most (22). Will need this trend to continue.

St Marco Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 Heading up there tonight. Looking forward to it. Not been to Anfield in a long time!
labibs Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 Going tmw, hoping tmw is the game when our forward players click, but cant see it. Think the game will either be very tight, or they could blow us away if they get an early goal and the crowd gets behind them. Definitely the kind of game where Wanyama needs to prove his worth, up against a 'big' side away from home. Be very interested to see what team Poch puts out as well. At some point I expect us to play Schneiderlin / Cork and Wanyama as the midfield three against tough opposition away from home, wonder if he will try it tmw? Also, if Gaston doesnt play tmw, then starts in against Bristol in the cup, has he been relegated to just a league cup player? In a world cup year (I realise Uruguary are still touch and go to qualify) he won't be happy with that surely?

pimpin4rizeal Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 boruc clyne fonte lovren shaw wanyama morgan ramirez lambert jrod osvaldo ideally id have a 352 with ramirez in the hole and shaw and clyne wingbacks, but liverpool away is not the best time to experiment. anyway the above formation could give us plenty in attack if keeping ramirez and jayrod wide whilst also givin plenty of options to switch it up if lambert in the hole is not workin
Dark Munster Posted 20 September, 2013 Posted 20 September, 2013 This has 2-1 (to them) written all over it.
