Osvaldo or Lambert

Who would you go with at the mo to take us forward?

I think 1 of them has to miss out most games to get another player in the middle of the park

Thought osvaldo looked good today. Good movement, obviously should have scored but linked up really well

Sad to say it, but I would go with ossie. Be a huge call to drop lambert for a run of games

Whats Lambert's scoring record if you count the last 10 games or so of last season as well? I can only think of goals against WBA (a) and Stoke (h). we look disjointed with 2 up front, I also think that Osvaldo showed glimpses of real class today.

Would go for something like this vs Liverpool

Boruc

Clyne Fonte Lovren Shaw

Cork Morgan

Lallana Jwp Jrod

Osvaldo

2 up front does not work in this league. Can't give midfield away.

Which is our problem. Lack of options in the middle, forcing us to more direct.

I think we will see lambert rotated to the bench soon enough. If we persist with this then we will be awful to watch and be in a full on relegation scrap

Just another point. If we go 442 at anfield, we will get pumped

Also agree. I know WHU are a toss opposition and they wouldn't cause us much problems, but we still needed to drive the midfield today. Whatever happened to "playing in between the lines" and "playing from positions not in them".

Far too static today and that's just the way that 442 is. It's a borefest which doesn't allow us to work our fluidity into the game, they just all went up front.

£1m bargain English international, proven premiership goal scorer, southampton legend loved by the fans vs unproven foreigner that came with a hefty price tag who runs off the pitch at the end of every game without shaking hands with anybody and never acknowledges the fans, probably needs a haircut.

Difficult one that!

So we should pick players based on who is nicest bloke and claps the fans? Bring back Prutton.

Who said anything about nicest?

Ossie hasn't impressed me,he's got a few flicks and tries a few things that other players probably wouldn't try, nothing more or less than lallana does tbh so I if we are talking about who should be up top in a straight fight between him and lambert then I would go for lambert, lambert is a proven goal scorer for us and a good old fashioned English centre forward.....lightweight flicky, tippy tappy foreigners don't impress me,it's not personal it's just personal preference and a point of view.

There is no way you can describe Osvaldo as a lightweight flicky tippy tappy type.

Saw lots of classy flicky flicks from Osvaldo that nobody got on the end of & a glaring miss - plus Lambert has not tried to knock out one of his own team mates & has a more mature footballing brain due to his extra years of playing professional football.

Of the two, if you can't play both - Rickie for me every time until he needs a zimmer frame to get around the pitch.

Lambert . Osvaldo and Rodriguez up front today wouldn't have been a problem if Lallana hadn't be calling the shots, taking corners. Three up front can work for us if only we get the link up selection right in midfield and Lallana links up better and feeds the front three instead of hogging the ball.

Let's get Pochettino on

Yeah fair enough, I didn't notice Lambert out there in real time! Should have just played it simple into Rickie
And he should have scored the one real chance he had, that along with Lallana's chance where he over ran the ball are gilt edged chances which should be put away.

I'm getting a bit fed up of playing 4-2-3-1 every game. Why not have Lambert and Osvaldo playing up front together or have a plan B formation to see them play together. 4-2-3-1 is so narrow and allows for little width which is a huge problem for us at the mo. why we didn't bring a winger in is beyond me.

I didn't see him before he signed for us, so Osvaldo still has to prove his end product for me. I also think it's a problem that after more than a year, Jrod still hasn't really proven himself good enough. With both JRod and Lallana currently underwhelming, Osvaldo yet to convert any of our attacking play into a goal and Wanyama not yet improving a midfield that we were very happy with last season, it's a disappointing start, despite our points tally being an improvement.

The reason for our better points tally seems to only be the defence and keeper. Like most on here, I'm enough of a know-it-all to point out our problems, but not enough of a know-it-all to give the solutions, except I think we looked better with Cork in midfield.

I also think we should have kept Puncheon because he always shook things up a bit coming on as a late sub. Lambert or Osvaldo? Well, Lambert has already shown he can do it for us... Osvaldo looks quality, but so did Ramirez early last season and the shine seemed to wear off after a couple of months.
