ok then chaps, thinking caps on.

if you could narrow it down, what is your favourite goal ever scored by the saints?

it can come for any number of reasons. e.g. won something with that goal, first goal you ever saw live, funniest one seen, favourite players only goal, etc etc etc.

MLT v newcastle when he kept chipping it over players when we won 2-1

I dont think mike hooper played again after that game

My favourite too but MLT himself does not consider it his best because he says he scuffed the shot. His favourite was the one away to Blackburn I believe. The thirty yarder against Tim Flowers.

Difficult question and normally I end up listing 5 but i suppose the one that really sticks in mind is Steve Moran at Fratton in 84, it really gave me a greater buzz at the time than any other, including Paine in 66, Funnell in 86 or Stokes in 76.

You had to have been there to understand, most hostile tense game i have ever seen in over 50 years of support

On reading the op the first goal that popped into my head was Chris Bairds absolute snorter from outside the box, v Cardiff I think, to silence the groans when it looked like we had pigged up a free kick. The goalie would have snapped his wrists had he gotten anything on it.

The second goal we scored vs Coventry in our last game in the championship. At that moment it felt like a very long journey was coming to an end and we were back 'home' again...

Plenty before my time... That one against Liverpool. Moran at Fratton Park. A selection of Le Tiss goals. Bobby Stokes...

One that sticks out in my mind was Fonte away at Brighton, the last minute winner. Brilliant celebrations.

I have two

In the 1962–63 season Saints fielded the same line-up in 28 matches including all seven FA Cup matches as Saints progressed to the semi-final, going out 1–0 at Villa Park to eventual winners Manchester United, after an epic three match battle to get past Nottingham Forest in the previous round. In the first quarter-final replay against Forest, Burnside scored an 89th minute equaliser as Saints came back from a three goal deficit. In the second replay, at White Hart Lane he scored twice, including a rocket shot for the third goal as Saints finally defeated Forest 5–0

The 89th minute goal was over 50 years ago but I still remember it vividly today

In 1966 almost 15,000 Saints fans packed out Leyton Orient's ground as Terry Paine headed the goal that meant top flight football. What a night

Some great ones here but in recent years loved lamberts header at plymouth, stern John s second vs sheffield unt and the one I just knew would happen when he came on as sub, rasiaks at derby!

one of the funniest ive seen with saints involved in a long time, Barry's last season own goal. my favorite for saints in the past 5-10 years punch's vs Chelsea and not just for the finish the 2 youngster combining (JWP and Shaw) then Shaw out pacing Azpilucueta whilst running with the ball! everything was just beautiful.

For me it's Camera against Norwich in the last minute to make it 4-3. I've seen more important goals and sentimental goals, but that one put me on the biggest high. I was convinced we'd stay up.

A close 2nd is the Crouch goal in the 94th min against the skates.

Dec 97 v Leicester MLT took leave of his senses & passed the ball to that ever prolific goal scorer Francis Benali to net the winner

Great goal because nobody believed it

Lets all have a curry echoed round the dell for rest of the game

This, Camara's goal was epic (as my nine year old would say), was buzzing for hours afterwards and it gave us hope for another week.

Shouldn't need to ask that, surely? Bolton at home FA Cup replay after they'd gone ahead in the last minute...

I assumed it would be, but you never know, could have been another one. It is on a video, think it's a match of the day one or something, but I have seen it on tape. Maybe someone better than me could put it on YouTube.

I ****ing loved that goal. Think I've only ever seen it once since the moment it went in....that needs to be on Youtube somewhere.

Just checked, it is on, and so is Steve Moran and his cup goal! Best couple of minutes spent on YouTube for ages.

I always thought the Newcastle MLT one was his best, until I saw on some program Tim Flowers saying that, just before kick off for the Blackburn game, he hung a towel up in the back of the net. MLT came over and told him he would hit that target the first chance he got. It sort of makes the distance of the shot even more unbelievable when you bear that in mind and watch it again. He strikes it perfectly.

Wayne Thomas against Ipswich in the FA Cup. Ok, perhaps not the best, but it gets a mention because of its unexpectedness. We yelled "shoot", he did, and it was a cracker.

Quality, cheers mate. Nearly got crushed to death under a mountain of bodies under the East Stand when that went in.

Here it is:

Got robbed in the replay at Carrow Road....
