Saint Garrett Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 (edited) Article on BBC has been released about price of football. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-23723537 We're certainly in the top half of most expensive clubs. Would be interesting to see how many fans that used to go that just cant justify spending that much on one day. My dad used to take me and my sister when we were kids down the Dell in the 90s, and think it used to cost him about £30 for all three of us. Probably triple that now. Also why do we not ever have 'kids for a quid' or something similar ? Would be better than having 2/3000 spare seats at the non glamorous games. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/24045505 Edited 12 September, 2013 by Saint Garrett
Millbrook Saint Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 'kids for a quid' would be brilliant, I'd bring my daughter along then, she's only 9 so I can't justify/afford to get her a season ticket, plus she doesn't always want to go. Can you imagine the uproar though, 'why have I paid such and such for little jimmy to have a season ticket, it's not fair blah blah blah'
Glasgow_Saint Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 A great debate and one that I am very passionate about. I agree prices are now too high and your suggestion of kids for a £1 is a simple but effective option. My idea takes this to the next level - Kids for FREE We need to get the next generation supporting Saints
Giordano Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 I took my two kids aged 15 and 10 to one of the best stadia in the world - Wembley - to watch England play the strongest team we had available in a World Cup match last week. It cost £40 for the three of us in the Family Enclosure. It will cost me £33 to take my kids to St. Marys to watch Saints reserves play an early rounds Carling cup match versus Bristol Rovers. Which is better value? For me its obvious.#wrong.
Georgie Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 When I went to my first game in 1995 (League Cup) I'm pretty sure it was one kid free with one full paying adult. Why can't they just do that again for the cup games against lower league opposition? I agree there should be kids for a quid at less glamourous league games, however it will bring up the argument that season ticket holders have paid more than that per game for their kids etc.
LeBenali Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 Be interesting to see what reaction the kids for a quid received from West Ham fans when we played at Upton Park last season. Can't see them being too arsed to be honest.

If a ST holder wanted to take their kids with them to a league game would they automatically transfer from their usual seat to the family area in the Chapel (and get a paper ticket printed for entry to the stadium) whilst their usual seat is sold on for that game? The9 Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 All this talk of Premier League prices... anyone look at the Conference prices? Staggering!!! Newport were £13 in the Conference and are £18 in L2, I think that's worse, add another £2 on the day. I haven't been to see Eastleigh for a while, but I thought £10 was reasonable enough for a Conf South team 3/4 years ago, they were up to £12 last season and haven't put the 2013/14 prices on their website yet. Probably why it hasn't been done as it will cause problems/arguments from existing season ticket holders. There must be something that can be done though for league games that will struggle to sell out. Didn't we offer cheaper tickets for a couple of games while we were in League 1/Championship the first time? Can't remember how that was set up or if it was offered to existing season ticket holders to buy extra tickets at discounted prices

My idea takes this to the next level - Kids for FREE We need to get the next generation supporting Saints I admire your obvious passion and desire to get the kids involved, it is commendable, well done. However, I would like to take this opportunity to discuss an initiative I have been actively campaigning for in Peruvian football for a number of years.. Not Kids 4 a £1 Not Kids for FREE .. Kids for Subsidies. Times are very tough in Peru these days and we need to get the next generation supporting their local Peruvian club. For each 'adult' that buys a ticket, they can retrospectively claim a subsidy if they bring a child along to the game. Qualifying claimants are entitled to twenty Peruvian Nuevo Sols for each child they bring along, which is a huge incentive. We have successfully implemented this in the Segunda División and we are looking to move into the Peruvian Primera División next year. Critics argue that the rise in kidnappings and abductions rose as a result of the scheme, and that criminal gangs are profiteering from the initiative, however the 200pc increase in children at games in the Segunda speaks for itself. We begin trials in the Primera at José Gálvez and Universidad César Vallejo initially, before moving into our core territory of the Lima 'big 5' clubs' As you can see, I am very passionate about this too. davefoggy Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 Please don't get me started on kids tickets.... I am a season ticket holder of 20+ years tried to buy a ticket for my 9 year old son for West Ham game, ticket office would only sell me an adult ticket. What happened to encouraging the next generation of fans? no fans = no club
View From The Top Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 By son, Y7, now has to pay £22 per Silver game. We no longer go to home games, it's simply far too expensive for an adult and 11yo.

I go to Eastleigh six or seven times a year with my mate, costs me £7 with my student ID (despite the fact that I haven't been a student for nearly 2 years now). Think it's a tenner for adults. Pretty reasonable, and you can smoke pitchside as well which is certainly a bonus for me!
Golden Balls Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 All this talk of Premier League prices... anyone look at the Conference prices? Staggering!!! I know. However the conference sides rely on the income from tickets and push it as far as possible. Even though we dont exactly rely on ticket sales, we would actually make more money if they dropped the prices for cup games. Keep going the way we are and the next generation of fans won't happen. They'll grow up watching the big sides on tv and support them.
Turkish Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 Its all very well moaning a out it but whilst people continue to pay it prices will go up. I had an emotional threshold of £40 a game, I said once it went above that it was game over for me, although I'm breaking that as I paid £41 for Anfield, justifying it to myself in that as I moved up north I won't get to many games now. I don't intend to make a habit of it though and won't do it for home games.

The £22 for kids is sickening when I consider that it used to cost me £3.50 on the gate, regardless of who we played, in the late 80s. At some point we have to do something. It's gone too far now. Though I know I'm part of the problem in paying for my season ticket
Orange Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 Really is a joke. It means the only young kids who can go regularly these days are ones who's parents can afford to pay for them/take them. A football club should be open to young working class kids in the city. Cost of tickets is so out of proportion to anything else. £42 quid for Liverpool, you could go to a posh restaurant and have a three course meal and some drinks for that. And when you compare it to lower wages it's ridiculous. I'm earning £6.50 an hour at the moment- so a Liverpool ticket would cost me not shy of 6 and a half hours hard graft- for 90 minutes of standing on some concrete watching football. John Boy Saint Posted 12 September, 2013 Share Posted 12 September, 2013 All this talk of Premier League prices... anyone look at the Conference prices? Staggering!!! Conference prices!?! I pulled into the car park at Bashley FC about 3-4 years ago as I was on the phone, whilst chatting to the customer I spotted the entry prices on the turnstile wall aghast, they play in a league below the Conference South might have been one below that back then and the prices were about £8 less than the cheapest Adult seat to watch the Saints at St Mary's
