Premier League - American coverage

Just been reading an article in a magazine about the American coverage of this years Premier League. Now I know it was posted on here a while back, with the map of New York in teams colours and all, but I was wondering if anyone knows anyone in America who has now taken on the Saints as their team on a random, Pick your team, advertising thing?

Fulham, then West Ham, then Villa. Sheesh.

Villa, West Brom, Man Utd... :?

I got Sunderland. F**k I need a wash.

You guys need to get some higher ambitions! I got Man City first try (because I wanted to go to Argentina, and they are the only club with Argentinians :mcinnes:).

Norwich then Southampton. Hmm, surprisingly decent at narrowing it down for me.

Southampton fans stick with the club through struggles, love their big stadium and believe they can beat anyone there.

See, even the Americans think St. Mary's is big enough.

You chose Somewhere in between. You like to move not too fast and not too slow, much like retired track star, Roger Black. He is a known Southampton fan.

One of the options after you complete the quiz is 'Shall we make a scarf for you' - I doubt it was their intention but it made me read it as a chant

Not random advertising thing but quite random how it happened. Got an American friend who is really into "soccer" who was a united fan. Now taken on Saints (after Chicago Fire) after becoming friends, coming to Southampton a few times and finally going to their first PL game when we thrashed Liverpool last year. Couldn't have gone to a better game. Favourite player is JRod and streams every game over there.

What do you know about America dip-stick?

very little, apart from the patronising attitude of (and i may be stereotyping here) the americans, when it comes to anything other than america.

e.g. the oft repeated "world series" featuring american baseball teams

e.g. news broadcasts where local news is the state you are in, world news is from other parts of the union, and 'other news' takes in the small minority that is the rest of the world.

don't get me wrong, i think it is great that the largest free democracy in the civilised world is taking on board the premier league, and even better that there are now some of those americans that may now choose to support the saints.

it even happened the other way around, when in the eighties american football was a big thing over here, i took the 49ers as my team. i went against the grain as most of my friends took up with the chicago bears, but there you go. i've always wanted to go to candlestick park on a matchday.

.

Very true. Something I noticed when speaking to people over there was how little they knew of anything outside of America (apart from stereotypes). Geography is generally appalling.

Watching their news made it clear why.

One question we always had fun asking American was "who won the Vietnam war?" - They all answer with "we did".

be careful, and this might be a stereotype, but the americans on here don't seem to get our humour!
