KelvinsRightGlove Posted 8 September, 2013 Share Posted 8 September, 2013 A "friend" might have found himself shedding a tear after a couple of bottles of red watching the opening ceremony. "He" was quite surprised that after all the anticipation and expectation of it being a bit sh*t, it was actually incredible. The ceremony didn't do it for my friend. Just some of the performances. Seeing how hard these people work, for next to no money, very little monetary gain for themselves. Such passion and dedication. My friend just found it amazing. Don't even get my friend started on the Paralympics. They were constantly in bits. My friend is a bit soft.

I couldn't believe how brilliant the opening ceremony was.

Whitey Grandad Posted 8 September, 2013 Share Posted 8 September, 2013 Personally I found the Paralympics boring. My sister took my mum to them. She then had a couple of months of severe arthritis, but she was 92 at the time.

What aspect of the paralympics exacerbated your mother's arthritis?
Whitey Grandad Posted 8 September, 2013 Share Posted 8 September, 2013 What aspect of the paralympics exacerbated your mother's arthritis? We're not sure whether it was the 10,000 metres or the long jump. Either that or all the walking that she had to do from the car park.

You would imagine that considering the competition there would have been an abundance of walking aids or wheelchairs.

All in use for the competitors, I expect They had on-site parking as well so she was as close as she old get.
Saint in Paradise Posted 8 September, 2013 Share Posted 8 September, 2013 When I was still working I met several people from G.B. here in N.Z. that had left G.B. so that they could miss the Olympics. I also know quite a few N.Z.ers who also couldn't be bothered. To be fair I did meet a couple of N.Z.ers though who watched the rowing.

alpine_saint Posted 9 September, 2013 Share Posted 9 September, 2013 Yes. I was completely indifferent about London 2012 until I saw the opening ceremony, and some of the performances that followed. Made me proud ot be a Brit again - for a short period. Its a pity all the things we ahve to be proud about are past-tense..
