Tadanari Lee back in contention?

Been on the OS and it appears Tadanari Lee now has the squad number 19. Previous to this he was without a squad number and not in contention we all believed?

My question is that now he is in the player profile section with a squad number again on the OS, is he back in MPs team selection thoughts?

I say this because the likes of Lee Barnard, Billy Sharp, Aaron Martin and Jonathan Forte are not there and have no squad number still.

Could it be to do with Mayuka and Puncheon going out on loan?

He certainly wasn't in contention during pre-season and was told he can look for a new club, so interesting. Obviously to fill the void left by Puncheon and the lack of any replacements coming in.

Would be interesting to see him in the PL, don't think he's ever played enough for us for anyone to form a solid opinion on him.

Have SFC lifted the staplewood ban?

There wasn't a ban, they just were told there was no point training with the first team as they weren't in the season plans. Interesting that he has a squad number back though, would indicate he's back to fill the numbers rather than anything else.

Coincidentally, I've seen every minute he's played for us, and based on that, I think he could become an absolute diamond for us.

Guly trod on his foot and then he broke his hand falling off a ski-board, which kind of fecked things up for the lad.

In the words of DannySFC and/or 'Bomber' Harris during WW2 - 'Well, my answer to that is that it [he] has never been tried yet, and we shall see'.

Asked myself the same question when I saw that Mayuka had gone out on loan.

Felt sure that Tadanari was on his way back to a Japanese club , but maybe .....he does have a future here still, even if it is on the bench at the moment.

Well, IF Puncheon can come back in out of the cold then perhaps Lee can as well.

He did show he had some pace, and has a tad more (ooh what did I do there?) Footballing experience than Isgrove.

Long way back for him but as we ain't got anyone else around & are paying his wages until at least January, why not?

He certainly has the potential to be Premier player..team/squad.

We all saw flashes of star quality.

The injuries, lack of games and loss of form , leading to surplus to requirement group.

Maybe.........he has a second chance to show MP and coaching staff in training etc ...worth a try in squad ...?????

Time and MP will tell..

Good luck to Mr Lee.

For me......always looked a good player:)

I think he'll do well in the EPL. There, I said it.

He has excellent vision and movement and his link-up play looked excellent at times. The problem was he was on a different wavelength to everyone else, so it didn't work for him. Now with more technically-able players in the team it could well work. He's also able to run at players and has a bit of pace about him.

I wonder if it's personal/morale issues with him. He does have talent, but perhaps he's the type of player who needs encouraging words and an arm round the shoulder, as he doesn't seem to have adapted to the UK as well as Yoshida. MP seems to have that ability, so perhaps there is hope for Lee?

I think he´s back because he cant go out on loan, unless it´s to Japan so having him back with the team wont stop that opportunity if it appears either.

But he cant go out on loan in England because he wont get a new work permit with another club at this time, which he must if I understand those rules correct?

That´s why he might be back in the team and not the others like Barnard, Sharp etc....

So having him back in the team gives an extra body in training, he might play U21-games and perhaps get to the bench in League Cup games but cant see him getting involved in PL action.

Would be a huge u-turn for the club & imho demonstrates more transfer niavity.

What do we know..........

► he was not in mopos plans and told not to come to staplewood anymore

► club loans out Puncheon & Mayuka

► club tries/expects to sign / loan Sinclair, Moses and / or Lennon

► targets choose other clubs

► club now v.short of options

► mopo removes staplewood exclusion & Lee returns (unfit, upset and with no pre season)

An injury to one of our strikers and id expect to see a u-turn on Sharp too

Very interesting turn of events indeed. Would be impressed if he went on to be an incredible star we later sold for £10m+.

Seems weird that we sent Mayuka off at all though.

In all the games I saw both play always thought Chung had more about him than Mayuka, but his injuries have wrecked his time at Saints.

If the comments about loans and work permits are true, and they probably are, then there is little option because he won't go back to J-League until end January, their season is nearing its end (round 25 of 34 this weekend I think). Still think if he can get back to match fitness he would give us a good option from the bench, because we are short of options up front, especially if we get an injury or two. He can't be too far off full fitness, I don't believe he was "banned" from Staplewood, just not involved in the first team training, so there is no reason why he could not be fit, he did play for u21s once in pre-season as well. Don't think he will ever be the £10m star though, but he did show that he is a talented player with bags of energy, and like Sharp a very likeable bloke. Hope he gets the chance to show us what he can do again.

Soooo, never say never again, chaps ?

If it can happen for Lee, it can happen for Billy

Why have you got such a bee in your bonnet about Billy Sharp?

Would you be so vociferous in your demands about another 27 year old that scored 10 goals in the championship last season?

Why not Yann Kermogant? He got 12 goals for Charlton.

Former saint Scott McDonald got 12 too.

Hey 25 year old Steve Davies of Blackpool got 13.

I get he is a likable bloke, and he did get a few important goals for us. But was he any bigger a part than Hammond, Chaplow, Richardson, Kelvin et al? They have all been upgraded without this apparent outrage.

When Sharp was unceremoniously carted off to Forest, it was off the back of a pre-season in which he was scoring goals for fun. If anyone deserved to go into the team based on pre-season form, it was him.

All eyes on the Bristol City game then. If he really is genuinely 'back' he has to be in the matchday 18 for that (as long as he is fit, I suppose).

Plus he only has a year left on his contract and Saints rarely let deals enter their last year unless they have no intention of keeping the player so all in all I think it is just another body for the squad.

I still don't see what relevance a pre season over a year ago means to this season.

I'd rather base an opinion on a season of first team football. Championship football is still one of the most competitive leagues around.

Read the post.... I said 'starts'

Youre including the 4 minutes he got against man city as a full game

So basically not at all an impact player off the bench that so many want to use him as...?

Get rid off, the sooner he´s loaned out the better. Club saves money and SWF have a chance to drop this worn out subject....

Just looking at the stats and they are even better than i first thought!

Scored 15 goals for us HOWEVER he only played the full 90 minutes in 5 games!! The others he was either subbed or started as sub.

kelvin fyi pre season goals = 6 (etoile + wolves and bristol city) + League = 9

unbelievable record
