Actually not, ton as a suffix in a place name is usually a corruption of 'tun', which meant enclosure, farmstead or hamlet/village. Hence the original name for Southampton was Hamptun (alternatively Hamwic).

I was annoyed by that so did ctrl+F on the bbc page that lists of English clubs to find them all. Saved a lot of stress.

 

Made me laugh. I suppose some people enjoy trying to work something out like that but I agree, control F and Google tends to solve 99 percent of my problems (including my *****).

Did this one last week, the missus said "11 teams in the FL ending in ton, but we think one is in the conference now". I was quite pleased to name 13 without Luton (or Alfreton).
