Tbf you make many posts that I would consider boring.

It's funny how all the knobs all end up patting each other on the back and backing each other up. It's like they have a secret knob signal... "I am a knob too... Hi!"

You still reign hypo as the biggest annoying knob on here. At least with likes of Barry, Glasgow, Blakey, dalek, sotonjoe (have I missed anyone?) they don't try and hide their blatant wummery, with you, You're just a dullard who craves to fit in somewhere.

Once a knob, always a knob.

That might be the most knobs I've ever seen in one place.

The post I mean, not the forum.

Oh wait.

I don't care if you find it "interesting" or not. Any amount of "clever" remarks won't alter the fact that sensible debate is not encouraged anymore on here. Too many people want to be "characters" and big noises on here now. It is becoming incredibly tiresome.

Where have you been? It's always been like this. It's quite possibly the most frustrating way to spend time on the internet

No. It is the likes of you that can't just post your opinion you have to add exaggerated and snide jabs at other posters when doing it.

Here's an example from a current thread.

MPs record isn't much better than Adkins FACT. He was hailed as the man to take us to the next level. FACT. Within weeks of his arrival Adkins, who had previously been dubbed by some 'the new Alex Ferguson, the next great manager and a future England manager' was forgotten about and a lot claimed MP was so much better and Adkins was out of his depth and not the man to continue our unstoppable match to the champions league. Some fans patronisingly claimed they hoped he could find a job at his level, like Leeds, a nice midtable championship club and maybe get a crack at the premier league again one day, when only the previous summer people were bricking it LIVERPOOL might pinch him.

So the problem with that post is???

I'm not massively surprised to hear about different people making contrary statements tbh. It happens all the time on X-Factor.

The irony is that most of the people moaning about not being able to talk about football on here rarely seem interested in discussing football themselves, but just spend their time having digs at others.

'Wind up merchants' know that human nature dictates that people are more likely to react to being 'wound up' than ignore it, ergo they know they can create a 'vicious circle' by getting people to bite then reflect the accusation back at the people they are tempting to bite. Clever stuff.

Yes, just one result but the game seen in the wider context has raised a huge amount of questions about the manager, recruitment policy, selection, tactics and playing style.

A lot of the criticism has been well grounded and sensible. Some of course not ...and apologies for any VW fans out there but I do not see how he fits within our playing style. Cork is peripheral and Morgan is struggling to work alongside him.....so that's two of our best players from last year, + then Shaw and Clyne on the bench........

Personally I would have let our young team develop and would have added Lovren ( fine signing and needed) someone like Ince, another DM who can receive a ball and pass quickly, and perhaps a good young hungry striker to back up SRL. That would have been enough (..and probably half the spend)and we would have continued to progress in a measured fashion. Unfortunately now the jigsaw puzzle has been thrown in the air hence the multitude of opinions and a fair amount of vitriol.

Bottom line is everyone wants the best for the club but we all have different and usually strong views as to how that is to be achieved-mainly because it means a lot to us.

p.s just finished the codeword in the Times.....hopefully I am off Jeff's thick list. Now back to my day job I have rockets to build......

Thanks MOG, this thread has proved your point very well.

For those saying it has always been that way, I think in the past the trolls and WUM's have been mostly individuals but they now seem to have joined together and hunt in packs which allows them to hijack any thread for their own amusement.

Shame really.

I think that I am like the majority on here that visit most days but rarely post as they can't be bothered to put up with the "banter" from people who in real life they would avoid like the plague.

It is a bit like at St Marys where you have always had the minority that like to moan and slag off the players - but generally their voices are drowned out by other supporters. Unfortunately on here the rest of the crowd has stopped singing and all you can hear are the WUM's.

But what is the solution?

I've kept out of this thread till now, but this is codswallop.

Some of those from the "majority" hunt in packs just as much as the "WUMs" and "trolls"

Indeed. I think we're both posters who see the "me too merchants" crawl out of the woodwork. Loads of them. Can't remember who any of them are, obviously.

Funny thing is that the people who get tarred with the WUM merchant tag aren't normally the ones who go batshi.t if we lose a game.

It tends to be the football manager types who seriously believe a smallish provincial club will be challenging for champions league in five years, in a 50,000 stadium, because they can do it on FM and the club has put out propaganda saying it's possible, that do.

But then if you've watched the game for a while (or better still played it rather than playing computer games), then you tend to be more grounded and less surprised when a team loses a game.

It's just obvious that if you set your standards too high - MP is the best manager in the premier league, Osvaldo & Lambert are the best strike force in the league etc - then you're going to come down with an all mighty thud when reality kicks in.

And that's exactly why The Ugly is a better board on the whole, because people on there can remember the days of the Dell and are far more grounded in where we stand in football.

Give me a Turkish or even Alpine any day over some of the "we'll be winning the league in front of 90m fans" brigade - who then go batsh.it and say we should sack everyone.

Eh?

I think more people more frequently lose grip on reality following a defeat than a heartening win. At least we're not talking about relegation yet.

Yup which is the point i was making, people more grounded in the reality of what we are don't go so nuts. Those that think we're going to win the champions league cause they did it on a computer spreadsheet once tend to be the once that go crazy when we invariably lose a game.

As someone who is still addicted to the glorified spreadsheet despite approaching 30, I would hope that they are able to tell the difference between a mathematic model of sport and reality itself.

Those who go stupid when our football team invariably loses a game are from many different perspectives, it's not just restricted to the data geeks.

To be fair it's clearly not all people, but i do find the link between those that haven't played the sport but do play FM and those that have very little understanding of the game/insanely high expectations is incredibly strong.

I understand what you mean. It's easy for people to get swept along with the positive vibes though and after the progress over the last 4 years who wouldn't believe that we can aim for the stars?

Naturally though when it comes to it, it will require exponentially greater resources to make smaller and smaller steps forward now. We are approaching the glass ceiling and if we fail to break it then people will be disappointed.

In marketing speak people will always left happier if they are under promised and over delivered (surprise and delight!) as opposed to over promised and under delivered.

Really? So expectations are more to do with the precedent of what went before than the substantially changed circumstances that we now find ourselves with regard to ownership and the massively increased levels of income in the game? When we were at the Dell, we even managed to come runners up to Liverpool, but apparently we can never ever achieve those dizzy heights again, as that can only realistically be the preserve of about 4 other teams apparently.

I'm intrigued to learn that the Ugly Inside comprises such a high proportion of posters who attended the Dell compared to here and that the insinuation is also that older posters are more grounded as a result, but only mostly on that forum for some reason.

As far as I'm concerned, whether posters go batshi.it if we lose, whether they are WUMs or their expectations are totally unrealistic, has a lot more to do with their maturity and overall grounding in what is sensible and reasonable rather than whether they have been long-term Saints fans, play Football Manager, post on the Ugly Inside or played football themselves or not. Although maturity of opinion doesn't necessarily come with age, broadly wisdom comes through experience, although the youngsters have always throughout history liked to believe that they know it all.

The OP voices the concerns of many other posters who fear that the forum is being hijacked by certain childish and immature elements who are debasing it and causing its gradual decline, because posters really can't be bothered to indulge in the petty bickering or to trawl through all the dross. Everybody knows who the culprits are, their post counts being a good indication of their incessant activity. It really is up to the moderators to do something about it if they don't wish to have a diminishing following.
