jawillwill Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 IMO: 5 - Lambert penalty away at Villa Park last season - probably would have been much more of a relegation dogfight had it not been for that goal 4 - Papa Waigo last minute v Norwich in first round of JPT - just because the we never would have gone to Wembley 3 - Hooiveld at home to West Ham in Championship - the moment I started to really believe we could actually be promoted 2- Fonte last minute v Brighton away in League 1 - gave us the confidence to push on for promotion. Wound up Brighton. 1 - Guly at home v Bristol Rovers in League 1 - looked like it was heading for a disappointing draw, but a bit of magic from Guly saved it. Not much of the following 3/4 years would have happened (maybe) if not for that goal with Huddersfield on their brilliant run.
Colinjb Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 Oooo, like this. 5 - Puncheon v QPR. 2012 The kickstart our season needed, asserted us as a cut above the real strugglers. 4 - Lambert v Blackpool 2011. 2-1 down, having an indifferent time of it, that late equaliser typified our spirit that year. 3 - Barnard v MK Dons 2011. Forte got the plaudits but his third secured the win and kept us right at the sharp end. 2 - Hooiveld v West Ham 2011. As jawillwill said. That was the game where we really underlined our ambition for the year. 1 - Fonte v Brighton 2011. Put us clear of Huddersfield, at that point our destiny was our own and we seized it gladly. paulwantsapint Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 Maybe not in this order but all important for different reasons Matt Patterson v millwall - the 1st goal of the new era Rickie v man city - proved he could score against top opposition in top flight Dean Hammond v Leeds - 1st goal in championship Lallana v Carlisle - put us 2 up at wembley & proved to saint Markus he invested well & got him some silver wear to go next to clock on his mantle piece Billy sharp v Coventry - settled the nerves & took us up

Shroppie Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 No WAY can you miss out Johno Quick vs MK Dons Very true. And in fact it was 2 and I'd include them both. Absolutely pivotal to our promotion.
MINIBARCELONASAINT Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 5. Mayuka's goal against Barnsley - proved he can score in a competitive game. Worth his weight in gold. 4. Wayne Thomas against Ipswich because it was sexy and it annoyed Roy Keane. 3. Lambert's goal against Stockport on January 30th - we won 2-0 but it was the worst game I saw during our League One outings and without the goal it probably would've ended 0-0. Truly awful game. 2. Big Rahdi's first goal for Saints in the 1–1 draw away to Carlisle United on 26 September; the 95th-minute goal came from a free kick which earned us the draw and kickstarted his competition for goals with Jose. 1. Guly's first PL goa...........................

Cabrone Posted 31 August, 2013 Share Posted 31 August, 2013 David Connolly's goal at Brighton in lge 1 : losing 1-0 with 6 mins to go and Huddersfield breathing down our necks Connolly scores having come on as sub only 10 minutes previously. Fonte followed up to get a vital last gasp 3 points. Hooiveld's goal at West Ham : big goal as it stopped them opening a gap on us and gaining real momentum. Lambert's goal at Leeds : the win was a big confidence boost after an almost total siege. This was the result where I started to believe in promotion. Lambert's goal at Villa : vital 3 points against a rival. Lambert's goal against Chelsea(h) : effectivley gained a 3 point advantage over our relegation rivals and a massive confidence boost.
