Ivan Katalinic's 'tache

No, the other would back up the other and we still have Rodriguez.

im not convinced our strikers will score enough on their own (admitedly they havent had great service so far) we need some goals from midfielders ie ramirez, lallana, spiderman to contribute

No people, we have Osvaldo, Lambert, Rodriguez, Lallana, Ramirez, Davis, JWP, Guly, Isgrove as options for the front four positions as we have heard from our assistant manager that we look at the players playing FROM positions, not in positions.....

4 places in the team, 9 players to choose from, pretty much standard. We can probably also see Rowe and Sinclair in the team for cup games...

I have to say that this is seems another bizzare move...Mayuka and Puncheon have now gone and taken any pace we had left in the squad

you would struggle to find a slower team in the Prem than Saints...the team has been painfully slow for the last 15-20 years...never learn though

Really hope reports we aren't making another signing are short of the mark...

We have won one of our first two away games against an established Premier League team. We murdered another established Premier League team at home and should have won but for wayward finishing (a problem we hope to have addressed by signing a current Italy international striker). We lost narrowly to an established Premier League team away.

This all despite having injuries to our two best full-backs for large parts of those three matches.

Whilst we have not been scoring enough, it's not for lack of chances. Encouragingly, we have conceded only twice in three matches, which is very good (especially given two of those were away).

Yep, we're in all sorts of trouble.

Yeah, we're going down.

Yeah, we're going down f'sure.

that was ultimately the diffence at norwich they moved the ball a lot faster and had pace on the flanks

Jeez, time really must fly. Doesn´t seem that long ago since Walcott and Bale played at our club but mayber they are 36-37yrs old now...

Well if it's true that we were looking at Ince then hopefully this lack of pace has been recognised and we get one nice, final surprise before tonight.

A little frustrating. I'm sure I was with most fans when I wanted additional attacking pace to compliment/push Mayuka and Puncheon, It wouldn't have been the end of the world if we didn't do any business in that area though.

But to possibly let Mayuka and Puncheon leave, without addressing the attacking pace requirement kind of confuses me a lot. I can't work it out. To me, it's clear that all we're lacking is a bit of pace to open teams up, so the last thing I would do is let all our quick players leave.! I seriously, seriously hope we have something up our sleeves, else I think we're stitching ourselves up a bit.

Summary so far:

- Need to resign Cork from Fulham

- If we get rid of Hooiveld we will get relegated

- Should have signed Dany N'Guessan to provide width

- Better to get players on deadline day rather than during pre season because otherwise you get forgtten by Sky.

- Mayuka joins Sochaux on loan and will be a huge miss.

I said I don't think, not that they can't.

Knocking on the wrong door if you're looking to fight knee jerk reactions.

So they have played 1.5 games together how else is that not knee jerk? What are you basing that opinion on because against Sundeland they looked Ok to me...including Osvaldo putting one on a plate for Jay.

Agree.

While they've obviously bought more quality than us, Spurs have started pretty similarly. If it wasn't for a couple of pens against Swansea and Crystal Palace, they'd have two points so far this season. Bad and borderline decisions have arguably cost us at least three points over the last two games.

Clyne and Shaw return = different look to Saints. That's how important they are to us. It's as simple as that. You can quote me back when I'm right. Thanks HTH blah blah.

P.S. I realise I need to seriously increase my post count by about 20k to be considered for the above position.

I think the vast majority would agree. The worry is that Shaw has tweeted to say he's fully fit and Clyne played 90 mins at Barnsley and there no signs of an injury either.

So why were they on the bench...?

Shaw fully fit but trained the first time last week on thursday (or even friday) after being out for 4-5 days.

Clyne missing about 3 weeks of preseason due to injury and Chambers didn´t really do anything wrong in the first two games so he deserved to keep his spot. Better rest Clyne for that game when a break of two weeks coming up rather than to play him too early and get a setback to his injury.

perhaps we were doing England U21s a favour, personally I'd be concerned over our insistance with JWP and Chambers when there are obviously better players available. Smacks of Rupert Lowe in his finest hours.

Neither of these points make sense.

That would be the Sharp that couldn't get in the Forest side at times last season?

There is no doubt that Sharp deserves his chance in the BPL. Hopefully he gets his chance alongside Osvaldo. I think they would compliment each other well. Rickie needs a rest, I think all the England hype has affected him mentally and it is showing in his performances.

Fwiw I was a little disappointed when punch left, as I thought he was our best wideman last year. Now we have let mayuka leave too that obviously removes the majority of our direct players with a bit of pace. Would be surprised (and disappointed) if we don't have a superior player to come in with pace to replace one of these.

Of the names mentioned, would be delighted with ince or Lennon but would think they would be long shots.

If he deserved his chance another club would have snapped him up by now. There must be some fundamental reason as to why he isn't playing for us or anyone else.

Agree to some extent but I don't think there is anything similar to Lowes days, at the least the intention is very different anyway.

Clyne should play ahead of Chambers when fit and JWP shouldn't be part of the attacking quartet either.

The only concern is if the club feel obliged to play academy players now that it's been called out as rather positive that we started the season with 4 academy lads in the starting line up.

This obsession with pace is mystifying to me. Our squad may not have any speed merchants in the Walcott, Lennon, Bale, Ronaldo, Giggs & Owen (15 years ago), mould, but don't people realise that pace in the modern game comes from the speed at which the ball is moved and the willingness of players to run at and commit defenders. We may not have been able to make this happen against Norwich but we have shown that we can move the ball around quickly, creating intricate patterns of passes which have unlocked defences (see J-Rod's disallowed goal v Sunderland, just 10 days ago). We also have players who can run at and commit defenders - J-Rod, Lallana, Clyne and Shaw all do this regularly when we attack. Puncheon did it regularly, but not with the sort of electric pace associated with genuine speed merchants.

It would be nice to have a pacey player to provide an option off the bench and reports from pre-season and Barnsley suggested that Isgrove might be able to provide that.
