Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache

Recommended Posts

We have won one of our first two away games against an established Premier League team. We murdered another established Premier League team at home and should have won but for wayward finishing (a problem we hope to have addressed by signing a current Italy international striker). We lost narrowly to an established Premier League team away.

This all despite having injuries to our two best full-backs for large parts of those three matches.

Whilst we have not been scoring enough, it's not for lack of chances. Encouragingly, we have conceded only twice in three matches, which is very good (especially given two of those were away).

Yep, we're in all sorts of trouble.

Yeah, we're going down.

Yeah, we're going down f'sure.

We scored a penalty in the last minute at WBA. One of our defenders snatched an equaliser with 2 mins to go at home to Sunderland and we failed to score at Norwich and lost 1-0. Personally I don't think that's much to shout about. It demonstrates that we lack firepower and unless we address this issue we'll continue to lost to very average teams and probably get a hammering at the likes of Liverpool. Chelsea & Man U. All this talk about how 'we should have won' is ********. The fact is that we didn't.

If Lukaku goes to WBA then they aee basically the same as they were last year. Good signing for them, but also shows the problem of loans. They can't replace him.

We have gained on them regardless of his signing, and on all of the mid table sides.

We have only gained on Fulham,Norwich,Swansea, Wba Etc if we are lucky with injuries. They have all added more squad depth in numbers than we have. We will have one of the smallest squads in the premiership submitted for the 25 allowed. I am a little concerned about the back up in certain positions and these will need strengthening over the next couple of windows or with academy prospects coming through if we really want to push on to the next level.

If Shaw and Boruc and Lovren were injured and we had to play Davis,Fox and Jos then we will be in trouble so our squad is nowhere near as good as a lot of the happy clappers harp on about on here. Our 1st choice 11 is potentially very strong if they can start properly gelling as a team

So yes we have added 3 real quality players but we still have a lot of squad building to be done in January and next Summer to really make some progress to properly compete in the top 10.

Davis,Fox,Jos,Guly and Mayuka will all need replacing imo with better players and we haven't replaced Puncheon.

We still have a lot of work to do to say we have a great squad

We get about 1-2m as an FA Development fee. Probably not even that much tbh.
That's still better than a 13 incher up yer bum.

Why can't the clubs allow the presenters onto private property so that we don't have to put up with the gypo fans?
If I were there I'd get my wang out behind the reporter. (If I had a 13 incher...)

The SSN news reporter shouldn't be there anyway. Stood outside an empty stadium.

That female reporter at the QPR training ground could be in trouble, all stood alone in the dark, were it not for the worry that Redknapp would, at any second, drive past and witness it...

That seems a sensible review of it, although - Lovren aside - I'm not sure if we have gained on Norwich, considering Fer, Van Wolfswinkle, and Redmond.

Agree about the injuries, I have been saying for months that another GK is needed, the fact that Fox, Jos, Guly are still in contention indicates a shortage to me, the defenders in particular.

As for talking about the January 2014 Window already, or next summer, to make progress, I thought the whole idea of sacking NA, and bringing in his continental coach was for NC to go to the next level rapidly.

I agree. We have a very good squad, but not great. Still, onwards and upwards. It's getting better every year...

Pretty much how I feel. A good work in progress.

Good summary which I pretty much agree with. Disappointing not to replace puncheon. A season of 10th-15th awaits.

I know the whole no pace thing has been covered but we do really have a lot of attacking players,if you bring pace into the team surely we would be looking at 2 wingers ? then that leaves about 6-7 players fighting for 2 places.

LB is also a concern but Shaw is first choice 100% of the time when fit, nobody decent is going to come and warm the bench for him.......however teams will be wise to the fact that Fox is a weak link in our side and will look to attack down the wing and expose him.

Ideally we need to look at converting a current squad player to LB or look who is in the academy/u21 etc for the job as Fox is clearly not up to it

Even if we wanted to bring in a player you wonder who we could bring in and who would make way

Gary Lineker ‏@GaryLineker 31m

Reliably informed that David Moyes was not interested in Ozil. Aside from the failed Fabregas bid, his only targets were Everton duo.

If this is true im astonished. you land a job as manager of the worlds biggest clubs & expected to have a big name marquee signing and you want to sign Fellaini???

Calls for this

Even yhe top sides struggle with 3 injries to their defence. Arsenal had to play Sagna at CB, United started last year with Carrick there.

We have had a great window, best the club has ever had.

Now lets get on with the football and enjoy watching our team.

Why is it the best window we have ever had?

Its the most expensive but best?

Thats pure speculation and if the shoe was on the other foot would be termed bedwetting by the clappers, there simply no substance in that statement.

I have no idea. I have spent the last 6 hours finding out a name.

We chose not to pursue the deal that looked set to be done.

Ok, reports about injured 5 weeks or so has been mentioned today, might be a reason....oh well would have liked him but there´s probably very valid reason why it didn´t go through.

Cant remember when we last kept our most talented players and signed 3 players that have played Champs league and are established internationals (2 of which internationals by high FIFA ranking countries). Can't see how this is not by fair our best window ever
