Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache

Hi fannies! So is there reason to stay glued to SSN for the next 4 hours or are we done? Have we really been linked to Lennon? Has Skacel signed yet?

As for the squad, I still worry about creating goals, but I guess the management have faith in both the young players like JWP, Isgrove and Rowe and in Ramirez actually coming good, and in JRod becoming more consistant.

I guess nothing will happen tonight anyway, so in the mean time let's hope the Ozil transfer crashes to annoy cocky Arsenal fans. :-D

Absolutely superb window. Kept our best players and added in 3 top players. Squad is stronger. Now it's Pochettino's time to shine to get the best out of this hugely talented squad.

GK: Boruc, Davis, Gazza

RB: Clyne, Chambers

LB: Shaw, Fox

CB: Lovren, Yoshi, Fonte, Jos

DM: Wanyama, Morgan, Cork, (JWP, Davis)

AM: J-Rod, Lallana, JWP, Davis, Gaston, Isgrove, Guly,

ST: Lambert, Osvaldo, (J-Rod)

That's enough good options and a highly talented and young squad. Good balance of British/Foreign/Young/Experience, just need to find the right "team" rather than just trying to shoehorn the best players into the starting 11.

COYS.

Agreed.. MP just needs to establish a way of creating numerous clear cut chances from the possession we enjoy; as so far in the 3 games to date this is not happening.

From the BBC

A striker with a proven goal record who is available? Clubs are queuing up to sign Southampton's Billy Sharp on loan but BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan reports that the Saints are stalling on a deal.

Wants a prem move..... Club have blocked and rejected prem bid despite offer being asking price

Agree, hard to see this as anything other than great window - and done early.

Only comments on that squad list:

Reckon Clyne looked a better LB cover than Fox second half v Sunderland, although we were comfortably camped in their half.

ST cover - you can include Lallana, Guly or Gaston depending on how you shape your attack.

Only position I think is possibly bit behind others is 2nd CB - will Yoshida or Fonte perform to a higher level?

Aside from GK and ST, my first choice team is young - likely to be inconsistent but exciting times.

Defence 18, 24, 25, 22

DM 23, 22

AM 22, 24, 18

further young players to move up during the season?

Best window for years.

Lightening quick sub for end of games would have been ideal but squad pretty big.

The Sky reporter at St Mary's said all the staff have gone home, the gates are locked, so no, not really. I am watching now for news on non-Saints related transfers.

Wish we were in for Demba Ba or Lukaku. Hoping MP is calling his mate Jose from home!

Not sure how to be honest? Would think he's the last player we'd want or need. We have more than enough in the central area, what we needed was pace and creativity in behind.

Fair comment. I think what I meant was, he was my first choice over Osvaldo. Can Lukaku play wide ?

Delighted with our business, especially to get it all done comfortably before the end of the window. The spine of the team has been greatly improved ( in terms of first XI and squad) and we've kept our most prized assets (so far!). Little surprised at Puncheons exit as he offers us something different and we haven't replaced that unless Isgrove is expected to take his place, have only heard good things about him.

We surely, have some of the most ungrateful fans in the country now. Want want want! Really sad to see our fan base represented as such on here.

Evolution not revolution for Saints (the opposite to the Sunderland tactic) and strengthening positions well whilst using youngsters, talented youngsters, to plug the gaps.

Still it's in every football fans nature to want more transfers, irrespective as to whom or why. Computer games like Football Manager have made fans like this, and the over-the-top coverage of deadline day on SSN these past few years.

Very happy indeed with the 3 players we have signed but cant help thinking that we are light in defence, particularly at Left Back. Another wCB of Lovrens quality would convince me that we are serious about top 8 this year...as it is 10th-12th is my guess. Its strange that Punch and Mayuka have gone out but no one (as yet) has come in. Theres still January of course....!!!!

Osvaldo has come in and in both articles about Mayuka and Puncheon leaving this was listed as a factor in them leaving. Plus we have Ward-Prowse starting in one of the positions Mayuka/Puncheon would be used and the emergence of Isgrove, Sinclair and Rowe.

Good gamble for European football, we get rid of the 87th best player in the World(inspired signing that) and a good outlet winger, just throw the dice, how much have we spent again in the last few years on absolute shiit?
